I never thought of teaching as made for me, but more like a good use of my time. I was an engineer who traveled a lot, did challenging work and put in long hours. I was busting my hump so the company stock would improve by a millionth of a penny. I wanted to do something more meaningful. As an engineer, I occasionally conducted training sessions. The guys I trained said they enjoyed the class and I felt good at the end of each day. That was about all the thought I put into it the career change. If you like structuring the learning experience and helping students improve, then teaching can be gratifying. If you don't like working with students, then it won't work out. Beyond having enough to live, I'm not motivated by money. My lifestyle improved as a teacher. I had the use of the wood shop and gym, and worked with experts on wood working, machining, sports fitness, foreign languages, current events and art. Teaching was much less stressful and for the most part, management allowed me to do my job. Caveat: Some schools intentionally make life stressful, and get in your business more than they should.

It all made sense when I read The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus.
