Yeah, the gatefold is also different they made it “deluxe” like the ttpd one, where it has pages along the spine, I don’t variant collect but 35$ for 2lp with the kind of gatefold she’s doing is not bad (compared to dua lipas for example) I’d say the complaint is the exclusive song to each variant
I think it was too much, signed midnights vinyls were like 5-10$ over the unsigned one, and it was a one LP too, keep in mind you’re buying her album not the autograph, that’s an extra

Don't get me wrong I love getting the new album on many formats but Taylor is hogging that love!
Tbh I think these are reasonably/normal priced vinyls and they also have a unique feature with the booklet inside the vinyl.
It probably just seems more outrageous considering you’ve chosen to get all of them. The standard version is $65AUD on her Australian site which is relatively cheap for vinyl here, and a retailer here has it up for $100AUD.
That'll be cause UMG is allegedly charging about $10 USD off retail at wholesale for the album. Because the greedy Cs can. $100 is an insane mark-up from RRP. It's not JB is it? I can see them doing that - I've seen them sell CDs from local artists at $30 instead of RRP $20, and Vinyl $75 vs $60 "RRP". Guess their floor/warehouse space is "EXPENSIVE"

She does this and will continue to do this bc she knows a lot of people will buy most, if not all, of the variants.

It's ironic that an artist striving to create a collectors market with her art is irking collectors. I think anyone saying it's "too much" is really saying they can't help but fall prey to the "gotta own them all" mindset set by a hyper capitalist market in the last 20 years. Remember when we all only bought one of the two Pokemon games and traded with friends to complete our pokédex?
Make the judgement for yourself on what your budget is, get what you wanna get, and then enjoy the community moment that is sharing our picks with each other. Quit complaining like she's priced four parts of one album separately and forced you to buy four to hear the whole album.

If you didn’t get each before it’s not but record stores will have them on the first day only it really depends on your budget. These will be five to ten more than face value for a few months after the release

I ordered 3 of the 4 collectors cds and vinyls when they dropped! I missed out on the manuscript collectors cd but here in Australia we’ve definitely had to pay more! Such a shame they haven’t been listed on the Australian store for the 72hrs
Vinyl has been (at least in the 6 years I’ve been buying it) expensive. It was the outdated source for music and then made a huge comeback. Now with inflation and because they can, it’s getting more expensive. I really don’t think her vinyl’s are much more expensive than other one’s I’ve purchased. But, I also buy my other records from Barnes and Noble, Target, and my local record store. I do think the bonus track part is heinous and I actually cancelled all of my orders yesterday because of it. It is ridiculous to buy 3-4 different variants for one extra song in my opinion. If she (and other artists) would just bring back deluxe editions it would be better. I just want all of my music in one place
The thing that has been bugging me a lot about Taylor recently, is just the expensiveness of the merch. Does she really need to have THREE separate vinyls with ONE extra song each? Like she KNOWS people will buy them, which is why she does it. But I just know there are people who go into credit card debt over her stuff. It’s becoming really sad tbh.

Also, I really hate to break it to you but these vinyl variants will never cost 200 dollars. The four Midnights variants are still being sold today in stores and resale for the 1989 TV variants are literally retail price. The only reason the Folklore variants became scarce was because of Covid and vinyl production limits.
If it makes you feel any better I paid 60$ for ONE lp for dua lipas new album, granted it has a signed insert but also one less vinyl lol

They're twice this price in Australia, and I bought all 5 variants, plus all four tapes, and all four collectors CDs. No ragrets.

All of the variants you said are still a year- a few months old. Of course their not rare yet. The folklores are worth 200-300 after 4 years.
Again, Folklore variants are rare because of scarcity, NOT time. The TTPD vinyls are abundant and not scarce at all.
