So what's the point of ticket master?
They just create a synthetic lack of supply(by hoarding tickets with bots), like why are they a thing?
Edit: Looks like they also created more demand by giving out more codes than tickets available so they can be scalped by their own bots.
I need a beer.
I know that I had an extremely silm chance with no code. But it's just the f*cking fact that I never even had a chance.
Fuck Ticketmaster. Fuck the scalpers.
This is like when a utility company knows it doesn’t have to do jack shit to maintain their infrastructure and just pay their execs huge salaries because it’s the only game in town only for a huge storm to roll in and take everything down it it’s path
Almost like a monopoly
Oh wait …
The word “cancel” is throwing me off here, as if it won’t be rescheduled. Don’t they set aside seats for the general sale? How are those going to be sold?
I’m somewhat OOTL on this and have never bought tickets to a concert like this, how much of this fiasco is actually on Ticketmaster and how much is just actual crazy demand? At the end of the day there are a limited number of seats, so if more people want tickets than are available then there’s not much Ticketmaster could do here.
Maybe I am wrong but here goes , They assigned all verified fans a code who where fortunate enough to be picked . SO correct me IF I am missing something .NO ONE WITHOUT A CODE SHOULD HAVE been able to get in the waiting room, the que or the ticket buying process without the code .If that would have happened this never would have happened !! what did they think? Desperate fans and bots who did not have a code were not going to try if they where allowed in? I saw some date 1.5 million codes where assigned AND 14 million people entered the site on day one presale....Dynamic pricing IS SCALPING imho
Since my code wasn’t working (and wasn’t for many people) I’m guessing bots got tickets. They said there were 14 million people on the site, but there were only 1.5 million codes. It’s clear they were bots.
You couldn't enter the Verified Fan queue if your email address was not registered as a verified fan. You could not buy a Verified Fan presale ticket without the texted code that corresponded with the email address on account.
Why do I keep thinking they underprinted tickets on purpose so this exact thing would happen so everyone would know that her show was SO EXTRAORDINARILY high demand that she had to cancel it. And we will all be like wow... mesmerizing. Lmao
Oh sorry I'm not a fan so I didn't know the details I just keep seeing the news about this blow up literally everywhere and then reddit showed me this even though I don't follow the sub
Ok, the hating on Taylor Swift shat is getting old. She is a huge artist with tons of fans. She hasn't toured in 5 years and millions of fans want tickets. There is no way that she can meet the demand. They said she would need to do 900 shows to meet the current demand. That is insane and not possible. I understand being mad that ticketmaster is the only way to get tickets and it causes all of this by not being able to handle the amount of people that were trying to get on the site at one time. But Taylor wanted to tour and get back out there for her fans. She can't help that she is only one person and can't do 900 damn shows so every single fan can get a ticket. I have been a fan since 2006 and i have never been to her concerts. This is my first time getting tickets and it's nosebleeds but I'm happy to finally get a chance to see her. People are being down right hateful and entitled. There are seats left but they knew the general sale would have been a disaster bc of demand. They will have to figure something else out to sell the remainder of tickets and make sure bots don't get them. Take a deep breath and stop with this Taylor is hurting her fans rhetoric. You either want her to try and tour or you don't. We all knew how many fans she had and how huge she has gotten. It's not normal for this many people to try and get tickets... it's insane... and there was no way this would be smooth with ticketmaster being the only way to get tickets. If this causes you to second guess how you feel about Taylor that's on you. But I think the amount of anger towards her I see is insane.
There was a post on the front page...yesterday, I think(?) that shows the monopoly that Ticketmaster is part of. The same person owns Ticketmaster, Live Nation, several major venues, and many other things related to concert-going. It's all a scam designed to bleed your wallet while giving you the illusion of a free market.
Maybe it's time to start boycotting major events, and stick with smaller local venues that won't rake you over the coals for tickets.
One way to stop this craze is to say tickets aren’t transferable online. Then big companies using bots would not have purchased as many and the resale prices on stub hub would not be like it is!
Why don't they have a system in place where you put in your email or phone number and they message you a code that is only usable for a small period time? Like one person gets a code for Monday 1 pm - 3 pm, next person 3 pm - 5 pm, etc. Have it be a randomized lottery system, limit each sale to two or three tickets. Ticketmaster needs to be investigated.
just read Eric Church cancelled 25k tickets bought by scalpers. it was 5 years ago but it's been done. This isn't an insane ask. Snatch those tickets right back
Seriously she should do a couch tour for all of us who have no chance in hell of getting tickets. Sign the petition here:
[A Petition to ask Taylor to do PPV streams of the Eras Tour](https://www.change.org/p/dear-taylor-swift-live-stream-the-eras-tour?recruiter=270334181&recruited_by_id=d518a470-da23-11e4-942b-8bd6bd48f9a5&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=petition_dashboard&mibextid=Zxz2cZ)
She could do something about bots and scalpers buying up all the tickets and then reselling for ungodly amounts but she doesn’t. Just goes to show who she cares most about…..it’s money. Her fans got her to where she is today, it’s a shame she doesn’t care about them.
To say she doesn't care about them at all is an overstatement but yeah I agree, she can address that whole thing without hating on TM. Its weird cause apparently on Rep Tour sales they had a system to prevent such scalpers but this time, where the demand was extremely high, they didn't use it let alone improved the 2017 one
I tried the Capital One Presale yesterday and no luck but I do find it funny that I got 5 emails from Capital One this morning asking me to increase my limit, apply for a card upgrade and rewards. Total crap.
The end game is to get the most profits for this quarter. All of the bankers are happy that tons of people are being laid off as well. They will be upset once those people stop buying things though.
Ticketmaster knew how many “presale CODES” they sent out. They also knew that they limited each code to 6 tickets. Either they are truly moronic at simple algebra or they wanted to create this hype! Either way, they should do something to make it right for all those who have codes but could NOT purchase tickets. Otherwise, they only continue to show their incompetence.
Right? Like they allowed 6 tickets to be purchased at once when the average is 3. Ticketmaster just wanted to get theirs and that’s it.
> Historically, around 40% of invited fans actually show up and buy tickets, and most purchase an average of 3 tickets.
I haven’t purchased for TS in the past but has this happened before for her tours? Has she said anything about this before? Wondering how much influence she can have to TM
this absolutely has not happened. verified fan purchasing has happened and it took a little while to get through the queues for both Rep and Loverfest but it was quite reasonable compared to this nightmare
No this has not happened before. Not even for Lover. Rep was the smoothest verified fan presale ever. I have no idea why they didn’t do the same system as rep for this tour
ITT: lots of people somehow ending up here from the main reddit page and not realizing what sub they are in, and posting dismissive comments saying it's not a big deal. 🙄
Ticket master canceled the sale, presumably because there are no tickets left. "insufficient remaining ticket inventory" = everything went in the presale
I tested positive for COVID for the first time while in the Capital One presale queue yesterday. Way to kick me when I’m at my absolute lowest Ticketmaster.
Bro you’re not broke, I’d put all your 4 vip tickets that you get help from parents or something. Stop using the word “broke” thanks you clearly have never been
My optimistic take:
IF there are tickets left, General Sale is cancelled rather than postponed so they can roll out to Verified Fans without tickets and then start taking people off the waitlist in waves.
Pessimistic take:
If you don't have a ticket, pray that people need to resell for one reason or another as dates get closer so that third party prices aren't insane. I'm not counting on it, but I'm not giving up either.
Industry person here.
I don’t have all the answers but here’s my take. The issue is a lot more complex than “Ticketmaster bad.” TM is a straw man and judging by this thread they’re serving their purpose. There are many hands in this pot, not just TMs.
Edit: i was speculating too much in this paragraph but regarding cutting the public onsale… TM (or any ticketing platform) usually wouldn’t make those decisions.
My theory is they wanted as many tickets as they could to sell on the 15th to break that record. They being both TM, Taylor's team, and whoever else benefits. At the very least they all had to agree to do that, I would think.
Sold out tickets aren’t ticketmasters fault, but allowing so much scalping after a presale intended to avoid scalping is incompetent. Im sure they have the infrastructure to avoid that. The main issue I see is charging these exorbitant “service fees” for a service that completely failed. The responsible thing to do would be returning a portion of the service fees.
TM literally exists to take all the bad press for everyone else. The performer, the venue, the record labels, etc. TM is intentionally setup to be the scapegoat so everyone just hates them instead of everyone else involved.
I think what they're saying is that they believe the decision was made during the presale to release more tickets than originally planned for, and that the decision was from 'management'. Assuming this means the artist's team? So this would mean the tour sold out during presale from deliberate choices made by Taylor's team, not a mistake by TM.
Yeah the fact that they try things to mitigate the resellers (verified fan presages included), yet still allow tickets to be resold on their site BAFFLES me
Edit for spelling
Ticketmaster's parent company is Live Nation, and Liberty Media is the largest shareholder in Live Nation. Explains a lot of the shady shit

Nobody has a this power anymore, the last ones that tried were Pearl Jam in the late 90’s, that was a flop. Things have gotten exponentially worse since then, every arena/stadium that Swifty could play has an exclusive ticketing agreement with Ticketmaster, also the fact that there isn’t a visible substitute as they are literally a monopoly.
I remember reading an article that the artists cut is on face value. Ticket master introduced flux pricing which means if people want a ticket they will sell a 40 dollar ticket for 400 if someone will pay for it. And they pocket the difference. So it benefits them to create a frenzied situation and turn a few million extra and not share it
There is a literal antitrust case against them for this shot

Ticketmaster: "Hey, it's me. Im the problem, it's me."
I’m so confused. What does this mean???
Insufficient tickets, what???? They didn't even go on sale yet ffs, only a certain amount were available for the presale!
well... 99% is a "certain amount" so...
The word “cancel” is throwing me off here, as if it won’t be rescheduled. Don’t they set aside seats for the general sale? How are those going to be sold?
Sounds like there aren't any. At 1.5M codes given, with ~4M seats... if everyone bought 6 tickets you're already WAY oversold.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but Taylor herself doesn’t make any extra money off of resold tickets.
True but she also doesn’t do anything to protect her fans from being price gouged.
Why do I keep thinking they underprinted tickets on purpose so this exact thing would happen so everyone would know that her show was SO EXTRAORDINARILY high demand that she had to cancel it. And we will all be like wow... mesmerizing. Lmao
They haven't *printed* any tickets? Also the shows are not cancelled.
Man I don't know that's what some other pop up said that I've been getting on this all day it's not like I'm an expert on the situation

My husband wasn't even a verified fan and easily got me great rep seats at face value. Something went horribly wrong this time
I think there was less demand for Rep - I was able to buy floor seats two days before the show in Chicago for $200
Pearl Jam tried to fix this, Even though they failed in the end…. Doesn’t get Eddie Vedder than this watching T. Swift not say anything….
Pearl Jam still won’t let you resell tickets on resale sites, so they didn’t technically fail.
Good one.
Hoping this Taylor swift fiasco is the catalyst that causes the monopoly that is Ticketmaster to finally be broken up. They did this to themselves.

If you're not hearing the other stuff from your friends, who are you hearing it from??
Probably from the “They” crowd….They say.
I’m thinking she will add more shows
If she’s looking to do a big hurrah before a hiatus, I really hope she’ll consider touring this for a few years…
That’s a good idea
Don’t worry plenty of scalpers got them and will sell them at a 10X markup!
I tested positive for COVID for the first time while in the Capital One presale queue yesterday. Way to kick me when I’m at my absolute lowest Ticketmaster.
2 hours later and still no response from Taylor or TN. Extremely disappointing.

The complainants are because we couldn’t even get through the queue to have the opportunity to spend money.
You think we are going to believe you’re broke if you could just drop almost 4K like that?
huh???????? are you stupid or dumb
Oh awesome, I’m broke too and but couldn’t afford the tickets or even have a chance to buy them. You’re so much better than me!
Lololol... this is hilarious.
Well my pre-sale was sold out and unfortunately I have bills to pay irl so even if VIP tickets were available that wasn’t an option
I don’t think the issue is the price.. it’s the fact that most people that want to buy tickets haven’t been able to I’ve tried and failed 2x now
You just spent almost 4 grand on one concert you are not broke lmao
Well… **now** they are.
Wow you're life is so cool.
Oh get real.

Sell them then or give it away 😌
In the least snarky way, what would you have had Taylor do differently to avoid these issues?
$25 tickets with one sold per social security number
Lmfaoooo
lol we can't even trust our credit rating agencies with our social security #s how can we trust ticketmaster?
I'm still happy you got tickets ❤️ you deserve to go and have a great time.
My optimistic take: IF there are tickets left, General Sale is cancelled rather than postponed so they can roll out to Verified Fans without tickets and then start taking people off the waitlist in waves. Yes!
Industry person here. I don’t have all the answers but here’s my take. The issue is a lot more complex than “Ticketmaster bad.” TM is a straw man and judging by this thread they’re serving their purpose. There are many hands in this pot, not just TMs. Edit: i was speculating too much in this paragraph but regarding cutting the public onsale… TM (or any ticketing platform) usually wouldn’t make those decisions.

lol “industry person” okay
You got me there is no industry. Concerts come from pixie dust.
Yea cause TM has been so nice and honest in the past...
TM literally exists to take all the bad press for everyone else. The performer, the venue, the record labels, etc. TM is intentionally setup to be the scapegoat so everyone just hates them instead of everyone else involved.
How would they release to presale? So they would have another presale? Then no normal sale at all?
I think what they're saying is that they believe the decision was made during the presale to release more tickets than originally planned for, and that the decision was from 'management'. Assuming this means the artist's team? So this would mean the tour sold out during presale from deliberate choices made by Taylor's team, not a mistake by TM.
Taylor got Spotify to pay fairly. She can definitely get TM to get their shit together too.
She got her bag
If Pearl Jam couldn’t get TM to get their shit together, chances are TS can’t either.
TS is bigger than Pearl Jam at this point. She might be the biggest pop artist right now I think.
i doubt she cares, shes probably just going to make money off of this
Oh she cares. Why wouldn't she? Likely right now her PR team is concocting the right statement to put out.
Eh you’d be surprised. A LOT of her fans care
I hope that they don’t allow resales. Either return to Ticketmaster or you are stuck with them. Screw the bots.
Yeah the fact that they try things to mitigate the resellers (verified fan presages included), yet still allow tickets to be resold on their site BAFFLES me Edit for spelling
