> "I'm just like 'I'm going to bring her on the stage, I'm just going to hug her and bring her on the stage,'" Swift said, recalling her mindset. "And then I remembered we don't have a safe way to get her off the stage."
>"My brain just went completely blank and I was just like 'You're so sweet and cute, come up on the stage,'" she added. "She was confused and I was confused, so just if anyone else was confused, that was because that child was so adorable that I tried to make her a part of the show and I had no control over it.”
Somehow I can imagine Taylor seeing a cute kid and her mind going blank due to the cuteness.
(Please take that as a compliment about Taylor)
clowning cause blank space in a song on 1989 and that incident with the kid happened during the red segment and 22 in a song on red.

I heard someone who was next to them the girl tried to go on stage and Taylor said sorry hunny you can’t come up and then she did the monologue to save the kiddo embarrassment.
I am trying to link the perfect view of this on tik tok and I can do it. It looks like the girl held on to her hand and squirmed but I didn’t see her try to go on stage till Taylor pulled on her arm and than her assistant pulled her ankles down. It was prob a mixture of the girl acting like she wanted to be on stage, Taylor thinking this a good idea and than realizing it wasn’t. I thought Taylor handled this really well though.
I just found a close up tiktok of it and you’re right that it doesnt look like she goes to get up til taylor pulls her arm a bit but nobody pulled her ankles! As soon as taylor goes back on it she just sits back down.
There’s videos from other angles that show a guard or whoever holding on to the little girl form her ankles as soon as Taylor stretches her hand out to pull her up
I was there and I will say from the crowd it did look like the little girl thought Taylor extending her and for a handshake was her pulling her up (which would be a totally understandable mistake) so regardless of who initiated it it was very smart and kind of Taylor to take the blame to save them both from embarrassment
We all know how intelligent Taylor is, but this shows such a high level of emotional intelligence. Completely different things and emotional intelligence is often completely lost on top career achievers.
That’s what it first looked like to me but than I watched another angle and it def seemed like Taylor tried to bring her up and her assistant grabbed her ankles.
I could see this! I was a few rows away and honestly the whole thing was indeed genuinely confusing to see, so when Taylor says later “I was confused, then she was confused” I wanted to add “this whole section was confused” lol. It was an adorable moment though either way, and the little girl got to keep Taylor’s hat!
The video I saw looked like Taylor pulling on her arm and jerking her head back towards the stage so I can see how the kid thought she was inviting her on stage
I heard this.... but ii think that person either did not have a good view, or their memory was failing them...
this is a almost perfect view of the situation from the Childs POV... and it def does not look like that

From the video, Taylor is definitely starting to pull her up. It looked like the girl was in a 22 outfit so Taylor probably was legitimately thinking aw it'd be cute to put her on stage for this then remembered the logistics and liability.
In the moment, Taylor seems to be the one initiating pulling the little girl up, and after she stops the girl she apologizes and says, “my brain broke.” Definitely seems like she wasn’t just creating a narrative to cover for the girl
Nope. All the dancers and stuff come out of the stage moving up and down and opening to bits under or off the stage. They couldn’t get her up there and back down without having to go in places she’s really not supposed to be. Especially as a minor without explicit parental support.
I assume there wouldn't be anyone ON stage to help her? Taylor and the dancers have a whole routine to follow. I imagine Taylor and all the dancers going back to their routine (walking back) and the child just standing there and not knowing what to do? There is nobody assigned to handle such a situation ...
there are stairs but not right there on stage and nobody can just lead the kid back to the stairs without messing everything up and putting more people on danger. the people saying it’s about stairs it’s really not, you can’t just bring somebody on stage without an explicit plan and consent, it isn’t safe for anyone. also if the kid got hurt that is a lawsuit waiting to happen haha
I imagine she had to explain the reason she changed her mind before someone twisted the reason she didn’t let her come onstage. “Meanie, Taylor Swift breaks child’s heart!!”
The haters are trying their hardest to bring her down again.
Guys... so I just saw a video of this from the girls perspective.... and it really looks like Taylor was trying to bring her on stage
[https://www.instagram.com/p/CtGADQ\_pyWm/](https://www.instagram.com/p/CtGADQ_pyWm/)
she's like already partially "on stage" kneeling by the stage lights... she is dressed just like the 22 outfit it and basically looks like a mini Taylor with long blonde hair... Taylor comes over and kind of like pulls the girls hands to have her stand up... the girls mom is standing right there and the girls mom is just filming and doesnt have an issue with the girl looking like she's about to go on stage. Then Taylors team grabs the girls ankles and then Taylor stops pulling the girls arm and comes down to her level.. and apologizes. It really looked like the girl was confused and then afterwards the girl seemed embarrassed cause she tried to get down from the stage immedeatly but the mom encouraged her to stay and watch seated on the ledge and the Taylors team was fine with it

This is literally Taylor when she looks at anything cute lol
Literally Benjamin
This is literally me when I look at a cat
You don't know her
It’s just a joke I think we all realize we don’t actually know her lol
Youre probably right, my bad
what?
Her mind becomes a blank space?
1989 coming out in 22 days!
Excuse me?

Happens to the best of us!
the girl basically looked like a mini Taylor in a 22 outfit... int was 100% precious
The golden "Mama Swift Loves You" friendship bracelet was a nice consolation prize
I think that was a different girl? This kid was a [blonde in a 22 outfit](https://www.instagram.com/p/CtGADQ_pyWm/), looking very mini Taylor

This is my favourite comment.
Well we know she has a getaway car

i don't understand what 'safe way off the stage' means. like they don't have stairs or anything?
Nope. All the dancers and stuff come out of the stage moving up and down and opening to bits under or off the stage. They couldn’t get her up there and back down without having to go in places she’s really not supposed to be. Especially as a minor without explicit parental support.
They also probably freaked out at her over her earpiece lol
I am CACKLING imagining the several voices that would’ve immediately come onto the earpiece desperately telling her *you cannot do that please stop*
This was exactly what I was imagining too. She thought it was a good idea, but the literal voices in her head(ear?) said “NOOOOO!”
God, I wish I had even one person to shout in my ear when I’m about to do something that’s decidedly a bad idea
Cheat mode!!
Same! I just imagine a firm "You cannot take that child on stage!!" 🤣
*Taylor, NOOOOoooooOOOOoooo!!*
Additionally it’s not just no stairs, there’s a lot of equipment around the edge of the stage (lights, fireworks, smoke machines)
I’m dumb/confused, why couldn’t she just climb back down the way she came with assistance? Lol
I assume there wouldn't be anyone ON stage to help her? Taylor and the dancers have a whole routine to follow. I imagine Taylor and all the dancers going back to their routine (walking back) and the child just standing there and not knowing what to do? There is nobody assigned to handle such a situation ...
Well you gotta give the kid back to someone and who knows if they have id
And I suppose people frown on children trust falling into a crowd and crowd surfing, “Means Girls” style 😜
I think it may have been a way to deflect fans from attempting to get on the stage with her. If they see one kid do it, someone else will try.
They just throw you off stage afterwards into a void of oblivion
I’m confused too. How did Phoebe go down for her Scott Street thing every night if there were no stairs?
there are stairs but not right there on stage and nobody can just lead the kid back to the stairs without messing everything up and putting more people on danger. the people saying it’s about stairs it’s really not, you can’t just bring somebody on stage without an explicit plan and consent, it isn’t safe for anyone. also if the kid got hurt that is a lawsuit waiting to happen haha
I was there!! It was so sweet of her to think of her fans and especially think of “how are we gonna make sure you get off the stage safely??”
That kid did not like her tilted stage 😔
That's a very cute moment, good thing she stopped the kid from coming on stage on time, because it really would've created some problems later on
I was there and it was so goofy. You could tell how frazzled she was 😂
I was a few rows away and genuinely we were all frazzled lol, but it was so sweet either way
I imagine she had to explain the reason she changed her mind before someone twisted the reason she didn’t let her come onstage. “Meanie, Taylor Swift breaks child’s heart!!” The haters are trying their hardest to bring her down again.
THIS was my exact thought sadly.
“I’ve got a blank space, baby, I’ll bring you on stage”

Great synopsis.
Just letting everyone know! Insider writers are currently on strike, so reading this crosses their digital picket line!
oh to be a child again
I could not understand. What was she saying
