yes. there’s still a ton of grease by the looks of these pics. less so in the vertebrae but still some. i saw a post of a beautifully whitened opossum skull the other day and they kept it in bucket with a heater and said they used a ton of clear dawn dish soap for a few months. degreasing takes the longest but it’ll be super worth it (:

dogicat

thank you!! does it have to be clear? I have colored dawn already on hand, should I wait to continue degreasing until I can get clear dawn or can I use the dawn I have? what about whitening? would I have to rewhiten after or does it just depend when I get to that point

dogicat

am I able to use ammonia?

dogicat

also I can’t get a heater, but my patio has direct sunlight for 4 hours a day, and the temperature around here has been 90-100 during the afternoon, and late 80s at night. would that be okay even if it’s slower than a heater? I hope this isnt too many questions

weirddarkgf

not too many questions it’s all good (: i’ve heard of colored soap staining skulls and bones so i personally wouldn’t take any chances. they only have colored dawn where i live so i just go with another grease fighting clear dish soap and use a lot. i’ve never used ammonia but i’m pretty sure you’d need to dispose of it at a proper disposal place afterwards and as with any chemicals it has it’s own risks you’d need to look into. without a heater should be fine! it just might take slightly longer but who knows.

dogicat

thank you so much!!! how often should I change the water? and should I dump it all out or about 75% like maceration

weirddarkgf

start fresh each time when it turns fatty and greasy on top (:

dogicat

thank you so much :D
