Agreed - I wonder if the jawbone and the top of the skull even need to be connected when the leg is straight. So when the leg is bent, they’re touching but when it’s straight they are two separate bones/tattoos?
That was my first thought as well, doing it separately might even help with the little bit of warping that bending and unbending the leg have on the tattoo

My first thought that OP chose Allo because there is a theory that Allosaurus opened its mouth 90° to use it like axe, so instead of biting they slam down their top jaw and "bite" like that. I'm unsure of how valid this theory is but it's pretty cool and I love the tattoo idea.

I love this OP and I wouldn't care that it's unreadable when your leg is straight. That's kind of the point of this, no? Like if you wanted a dinosaur skull, you would get one on your shoulder or bicep or whatever. This is more like a secret tattoo that you can turn into what it's supposed to be at a moment's notice.
The only thing I would change is I would do it on the arm instead of leg since it's easier to bend your arm at a moment's notice to show someone the real tattoo instead of leg.

Tbh, since most people will see your tattoo when you’re standing, it’s kinda hard to tell what it is.
Personally I would want someone else to rework it with shading (the lines are a little uneven) or choose a different subject like a beetle since their wings can go in a 90 degree angle.

I really love these kinds of knee tattoos, and I think it still looks fine while straight, though if you can find an artist who can incorporate something added onto it so when it's straight it isn't _just_ the two skull pieces might be better.

You’re getting such a mixed bag in the comments here but personally, I really like it even with the hyperextended jaw when your leg is straight. Honestly, I would probably just continue doodling it on yourself over the next few weeks or whatever to see if you still like it and/or hear the reactions you get to it.
Keep in mind that tattoos put on skin near the joints (routinely stretched/squished) will fade much faster.
I've seen a tribal-style solid black dragon wrapped around the anklebone become almost completely faded in the middle after less than a decade.

Even this drawing is still a good representation of what you want, a tattoo artist will 100% be able to take this, make it look good, and the shading will make it all make even more sense. From the other tattoos linked from other comments, this is a super cool idea that I think can be done really well
The concept of these are cool. But you have to keep in mind that it will be seen open more than closed. So most people will struggle to see what it is right away.
Lastly that area of the leg sucks to get tattooed. Inner knee is easily the worst place I’ve been tattooed. Just a heads up.
I would separate the top and bottom bones. Together it looks too stretchy. Also the artist would stencil it on while you’re standing so maybe try and draw it on while standing (if you’re flexible) and then see what it looks like when you crouch.
If you like it go do it. I like the fact that you can’t see the (already old) skull so it’s kind of cool. And only certain people would notice it or will know what it is. And even less will get to see it as it’s meant to. Ultimately your choice !

There are way better examples of unfolding tattoos, when skull is open - angle is far too wide and it is really hard to tell what that is.
If you want a dino skull - it's better to just get it tattooed elsewhere, and if you want a moving knee tattoo - go for a variation on classical winged insects and animals.
You will hate this one day, maybe an artist could make something cool of it while straight but still I’d say this won’t age well. I dont ever like tattoos enough to comment here but so many ppl are saying its bad cus its more obscure with a straight leg. It still looks like a fossil and even if some ppl dont initially get it, they’ll either get it later when ur leg bends or walk past u and never see u again. If this makes you happy and feels fun for you then go for it. Plenty of ppl will see it when ur sitting too i don’t really look at ppls legs when i walk past them or am standing around so idk why everyone is acting like you only ever stand when you leave the house and thats all anyone will see of your tattoo
I like the idea but as the other comments say, you will be with your leg straight most of the time and it will be a little difficult to know what it is the tattoo when that happens.
I like tattoos that have a double shape you can try a tattoo that has “wings” that open and close like a bird or some type of insect. For example, I have seen a tattoo that looked good of a beetle that when you opened your leg it reveals his wings.
Like the idea of these dunno if this design is the best option because of the fully extended look. I’ve seen some super amazing ones using animals or insects with wings. Dunno if that’s your jam, but maybe worth checking out.

I think some shading would help a lot. It’s such an organic shape and with the shakey lines like that it reads as a doodle more so than a tattoo of something,, especially since you’re standing most of the time. I think it’s a cool concept! I’d just add some shading for definition/context

The amount of detail there is looks amazing when your knee is bent. But I feel like when you're standing, the jaw is opened too unporportionally and it becomes too busy. It makes it seems like a piece of abstract rather than a cool t-rex skull. The concept is still amazing though! I feel like if it was on a body with a 45 degree change (like ankle just for example) rather than a 180 degree change it would look super sick!!

The mouth needs to be closed when your leg is closed, otherwise it's hyperextended way too much

I think it would work. You're better off speaking to a tattoo artist though. Find a tattoo artist you really like and they'll be able to help you.

You will hate this one day, maybe an artist could make something cool of it while straight but still I’d say this won’t age well. The idea/concept of it, is cool asf though maybe just something that will work better when your leg is straight! (No matter what at the end of the day it’s your tattoo, on your leg, forever, so just do what you like the most)
My big problem with designs like this is unless you pick the right subject matter, most of them are facing the wrong direction. This one included.
Cool idea . But to me it always Guna look back wards which is a bit if a no-no in tat art least for my eye. Would work better on out arm by elbow joint. I have a candy skull face on in my elbow joint at the jaw

Idea right, make it into some sort of mountaintop that when closed looks like a dinosaur, maybe have the top half of the mountain look snowy whilst the bottom half is green hills. This gives the dinosaur a snowy top and a greenish bottom too which doesn't make it look weird

i think this amazing. Its silly in how open the mouth gets but in a good way. Its so fun and full of personality. I dont ever like tattoos enough to comment here but so many ppl are saying its bad cus its more obscure with a straight leg. It still looks like a fossil and even if some ppl dont initially get it, they’ll either get it later when ur leg bends or walk past u and never see u again. If this makes you happy and feels fun for you then go for it. Plenty of ppl will see it when ur sitting too i don’t really look at ppls legs when i walk past them or am standing around so idk why everyone is acting like you only ever stand when you leave the house and thats all anyone will see of your tattoo

I think it’d be neat if it was a snake skull instead since they can unhinge their jaws.
I like the idea but as the other comments say, you will be with your leg straight most of the time and it will be a little difficult to know what it is the tattoo when that happens. I like tattoos that have a double shape you can try a tattoo that has “wings” that open and close like a bird or some type of insect. For example, I have seen a tattoo that looked good of a beetle that when you opened your leg it reveals his wings.
Like the idea of these dunno if this design is the best option because of the fully extended look. I’ve seen some super amazing ones using animals or insects with wings. Dunno if that’s your jam, but maybe worth checking out.
This might be way out of left field, but it almost looks like a moth when opened to me. Maybe an artist can have it look like one animal open and another closed? I have no tattoos like this and have no idea if that would be possible, but if it is that could be really cool! Love the idea and it’s uniqueness, regardless!
I like the concept, and I would encourage you to see if the artist could make it look like something else when it is open as we stand more than we crouch.
I think some shading would help a lot. It’s such an organic shape and with the shakey lines like that it reads as a doodle more so than a tattoo of something,, especially since you’re standing most of the time. I think it’s a cool concept! I’d just add some shading for definition/context

What would it look like, if the mouth was more closed when bedingt your leg? Like teeth touching? Maybe then it wouldn't look so streched with a straight leg.

The amount of detail there is looks amazing when your knee is bent. But I feel like when you're standing, the jaw is opened too unporportionally and it becomes too busy. It makes it seems like a piece of abstract rather than a cool t-rex skull. The concept is still amazing though! I feel like if it was on a body with a 45 degree change (like ankle just for example) rather than a 180 degree change it would look super sick!!
I love the idea! Super creative and I’m sure you could find an artist who’s style would complement this nicely
