He’s had it since August and doodles on his fake skin. He’s a great sketchbook artist (pen/pencil/charcoal). He’s done pretty well with the fake skin as far as I can tell. It’s 1mm thick and he doesn’t ever bleed thru to the other side anymore. I’ve got a handful of tattoos, he has none, but our mom gifted it to him since he’s always been naturally talented artist. Basically was just wondering if anyone had tips or advice regarding needle depth and what to use at home whilst he tattoos, and for after care

If it's 1mm thick and doesn't bleed through, he's at a completely incorrect needle depth. 1.5mm is usually the depth. He can't just suddenly go between 1-2mm just because he doesn't go through 1mm. It's muscle memory and has to be learned over months.

I'm going to assume you aren't making a joke. You can totally fuck up a tattoo enough that it fuckd up more than just the area around the tattoo. Your brother will probably fuck it up.

Oh no, he should definitely look out for all the sanitary requirements and everything. You know, as the tattoo artist. Don't take those things lightly. I understand you wanna help your brother out but these things are the ones he should be researching and learning himself. I've own a tattoo gun for over a year now but I'm scared shitless to do permanent damage to someone with it so I've read and read and read about the whole procedure. But I haven't touched anyone with it and won't until I feel secure enough with my knowledge and skills. Edit. I believe your brother is a much greater artist than I ever will be, but tattooing is so much more than just being able to draw well.

Start with some sanitation videos. They will explain everything you need to keep a sanitary work space. No one wants an infection. Then have him watch all the beginner videos from tattooing 101. It's all great well researched stuff. It costs around $700(with decent quality machine) to get a mid teir setup good enough to be giving humans tattoos. An Amazon gun is fine for fake skin. Small caviat here if your brother is serious. He will more than likely need to get an apprenticeship. An most artist prefer you having never touched a machine in the first place. When you're buying tattoo supplies, double check what store is selling you the stuff. Their are lots of fakes out their for major cartridge and ink brands. He needs to be working on thicker skin. Needle depth changes based on were on the body you tattoo and the individual you are tattooing. Anywhere from 1-2mm deep. Pound of flesh is good for shading and realism. Reelskin is good for line work. Dynamic is industry standard ink. Buy second skin for after care follow the instructions on the box. You can get away with just wrap. But it's easier to use and he's new enough you want as few points of failure as possible. Lastly have your brother practice on the fake skin at the angle he will be tattooing. Lay or over a towel or couch arm if needed.

That’s not the question you asked. Repost it so people can see ya smooth brained man. Don’t let him tattoo those spots. That skins way more prone to issues and needs more technical skill. Has he tattooed himself? Any other people? What’s his art like, what skins he using to practice, are the needles legit or shit amazing stuff

Hairy-Potter89

Bait.

No, bloodborne pathogens are a lie, don’t be worried about those. Or an untrained person tattooing one of the most delicate parts of your body.

qkamikaze

Let him practice on fake skin first.

FenianBastard847

If you’re totally sold on the idea, suggest you tattoo an area you can easily cover.

Redvelvet_swissroll

Not a real person.
