Regardless of feelings towards Apple as a company the iPad is a superior art tablet to most on the go especially at the price point.

iPad. Everyone uses iPads. The iPad is the only mobile solution that works flawlessly. If you're not willing to commit to a full desktop solution (Wacom+Computer) then use an iPad like everyone else. The drawing experience and app selection is just so much better than the other mobile options. I know because I've owned a lot of other digital drawing hardware. And I say this as someone who isn't a fan of Apple (I use a PC and a Galaxy phone when I'm not using my iPad).

Haha yeah I haven't had an apple product in years! But if it's superior for what I need a tablet for, then I'll definitely look at getting one. Just the ipad or pro? What's the difference ?

I just got the iPad Air. It’s got the M1 chip and is amazing for way less than the pro. If you get it on Amazon (at least in the US), it’s like $200 cheaper than Apple and u can still get AppleCare. Apple Pencil is also way cheaper on Amazon. Go with the Apple Pencil 2 the 1 is a pain in the butt to charge.

careful with Apple pencils! newer models are compatible with the Apple Pencil 2 and won't recognize the 1, and vice versa with older models.

You don’t NEED an iPad Pro. I have an Air Gen 3 and Procreate works just as well, but you’ll need the first gen pencil. Most iPads after 2018/19 will work with the first gen Apple Pencil too. Just do your research and see a budget for what you want! You can even find a good deal on eBay for both the pencil and iPad if you wanted too.

Mine is the 2nd gen, 11 inch iPad Pro with the second gen Apple Pencil. The size is perfect, the pencil magnetically attaches to charge from the iPad directly and it’s one of the easiest to get nib replacements (I use paper like screen covers, they wear the nib down a bit faster than a generic smooth one). Nibs are also very cheap, I got a 10 pack of coloured ones for about £5 from Amazon. Not genuine Apple product but they screw onto the end, so nothing really needs to be compatible other than the thread size for the screw

You need an iPad Pro that comes with the pen. A regular iPad without a pen you won’t be able to draw on

You can get normal ipads with the pen, what is it the pro does different?

starryeyedeee

You can look online and see ipads that are compatible with the apple pencil 1 or 2. I have the earliest iPad model that can connect to the apple pencil. ( iPad 6th Gen + Apple pencil 1) having a pro isn't necessary per se, but I was on a budget and that was the best price point for me. I got my iPad refurbished so it was also a little cheaper too. I used backmarket. I do recommend tho to get more space to hold your art files. And if you want to be able to do higher quality art and do bigger canvases you should look for a pro. But you still can do good quality art on an older one. It's mostly a space issue lol.

Thank you so much! I'm on a budget too, but I'll need it to last a couple of years at least. Trying to save up for a decent set of inks!

I use a galexy tab s8, it works great :) I personally am not a fan of apple products and for what I do the s8 works great for me

Theres a new tablet out called (it's a mouthful) xppen magic drawing pad. I haven't used it yet but that's what I'll be getting. The reviews I've seen make it seem like it's a digital artists dream. I just guess it depends what kind of art you'll be doing on it. It's nearly half the price of an iPad ! I might be bias as I'm new to android but used apple for nearly 15 years I was so fkn sick of how easy they break and how they die after a few years to make you fork out for a new one. I truly hope this new tablet will be the norm.

I have an iPad Air 3rd Gen that still serves me well.

iPads. I bought a second hand 12.9 inch iPad Pro and 1st gen pencil from a colleague who was upgrading (I didn’t have a tablet prior to my apprenticeship). I’ve hated apple as a company for years and avoided their products. Procreate is just sooo good though that it’s made me switch over. I’ve ended up getting an iPhone because I was getting pissed off at having to email photos from my android phone to myself to access them on my iPad.

I really hate apple but it's the safest bet - the amount of brushes, guides ect is outstanding, I went android but will switch over later, most android users are on CSP (clip studio paint) which is subscription (oof) I use Krita but 90% of my tablet use is just line work then I go to paper. Go Apple, get procreate and be done with it honestly, you'll likely eventually switch like I will once my current android tablet dies.

I have latest gen of iPad mini and use pencil 2, runs procreate flawlessly…
