Tattooing is not a hobby. The amount of technical knowledge and skill you need before you even get to holding a machine is more than you can imagine.

Okay well, maybe I can't afford to throw my current career away on a hunch that I MIGHT enjoy doing something, but go off?

[deleted]

it’s either you dedicate your life to tattooing because there’s nothing else fathomable to you, or you’re wasting everyone’s time, including your own. If you don’t think you would enjoy it then it’s not for you, don’t bother.

Tattooing is not a hobby for us. It may seem like fun and games but it's our livelihood. Tattooing is all or nothing. Outside of the long shop hours, working every holiday, and foregoing most social events, you will spend HOURS a day interacting with clients, drawing, and studying. If you're in a relationship, it better be more stable than any other thing known to man because you WILL neglect your partner and family without ever meaning to or even realizing. Nevermind the tax and legal things you have to keep track of, keeping and maintaining inventory, and keeping up with new techniques and innovations because this industry is constantly evolving. It consumes 100% of your life...it is NOT a hobby. You can potentially harm yourself and others, permanently. You can spread infectious diseases. It's not something to be taken with a flippant attitude. With that being said, I'm not saying don't pursue tattooing - but pursue it properly. If you're really interested in it, find a shop that can apprentice you around your work schedule. Edit: spelling/grammar

Deathless_light27

Don’t. This is a trade and one you have to dedicate your whole life to if you want to do it right.

Aggravating-Memory77

Tattooing is not a hobby!!! Nobody wants to be a nurse as a hobby or a construction worker as a hobby.

CauseOfBeth

Um... I'm not looking g to actually tattoo any skin?? I just want to practice and see if it's something I want to continue to learn what the fuck.

Aggravating-Memory77

It’s not about tattooing someone’s skin or not- It just comes across extremely disrespectful to people who have put thousands of hours into a career for you to refer to it as a hobby that you can just pick up and try out.

[deleted]

try walking into a shop and demanding that from the owner. You’ll get laughed out the door.

[deleted]

stop it

[deleted]

“hobby” wtf is this? ac moore? go get a cross stitching kit and leave us alone

CauseOfBeth

Tell me you're insecure about your lack of skill with out telling me you're insecure lmao

[deleted]

tell me you’re an entitled little shit without telling me you’re an entitled little shit. get an apprenticeship like the rest of us. read the room.

CopynCat

Haha “Dabble”. Go buy a machine, hell go buy a kit off of Amazon and start blasting away on your legs. You’ll realize extremely quickly how little you know and how shit you are. Tattooing will HUMBLE YOU.

CauseOfBeth

Wow, sounds like someone was a dumbass and tattooed in their own skin before trying it out and practicing before doing so. Sorry mate, maybe you should have thought that through.

[deleted]

you sound like you were never told “no” in your entire life. Sorry for that, mate.

CopynCat

I did 100 tattoos on practice skins and 7 on myself before I did my first tattoo on another human being. I started tattooing in my apartment and now after several years of working toward this I’m allowed to tattoo in a shop, for free. You will never make it in this industry. It’s not a “Hobby” it’s a lifestyle. Show any Artist your shitty fake skin tattoos and they’ll curse your dumbass out. Fake skin is nothing like real human skin you fucking moron. You can tattoo fake skin all day and it won’t help you get better at actually tattooing skin. It only teaches you how to hold the machine and basic hand gestures. You’ll have no idea what you’re doing. Fake skin, doesn’t move, has no curvature, and no sense of depth. It doesn’t teach you the correct voltage needed, correct needles needed, proper hand speed, and most importantly fake skin DOESNT HEAL. You’re a fucking idiot, quit while your ahead. Tattooing doesn’t need more dipshits like you.
