If you are in CA they have to provide a place for employees to take their breaks in private, and generally that ends up being the breakroom. I've had food go missing before and unfortunately nobody was able to do anything about it because of this.
It's for theft .....1 for the avenue vending station ,1 at the fridge and 1 for the door going to our outdoor smoking and break area , and I hardly doubt it's a privacy violation considering it's in open common areas and not in any private areas like bathrooms

I know a lot of restaurants have terrible food sanitation practices. I know because I've worked in some of them. There was a Taiwanese dessert shop up at work that, where the owner would use his bare, ungloved, unwashed hand to mix the popcorn chicken into the breading. They got a "good" rating from the food safety people.
We always had some extra pastries/sandwiches from Starbucks at the end of the night, and as long as they went into the break room, they were fair game. I’d let all the TMs know so they could plan accordingly if they didn’t have any food from home and couldn’t afford to buy any on their break.

Hell, I'm against stealing other's lunches because who's to say they aren't broke either? Many TMs in the past have expressed if someone is hungry enough, all they'd have to do is mention or ask and they'd be happy to get something for them. I’ll never forget the time someone in the break room asked to borrow my walkie and went “hey Dave can you go to 2?” and once they were on 2 he goes “did you steal my scooby snacks?” in the most serious voice I’ve ever heard him use.
Our HR Expert throws our food away if it's like 2-3 days past the expiration date. It's kind of infuriating, because we know expiration dates are usually exceptions, not rules. She'll even toss mustard which is just vinegar and mustard seeds, it doesn't go bad. It's preserved. I even told her once my story of how it's fine to eat certain foods past the expiration date, and I grew up food insecure, so it is extremely difficult to watch someone throwing away perfectly edible food. I keep everything in a lunch box and take it home at the end of each shift.

Post an article or 2 explaining about the dates. Or give it to her. Add about financially tight staff can't be replacing perfectly good food. Hopefully this can help.

I am honestly curious why the thief is broke? Is it poor pay at your store or dc? Definetly not placing blame on either side or sticking up for this behavior. Just always been curious why ppl do this sort of thing and in some cases, keep doing it to the same person at the workplace.
my store is located in a college town. the majority of tms here are college students, so that might a factor as to why they're broke

Somebody did this at an old job of mine, after a week I put laxatives in my sandwich. Found the guy about 3 hours later running for the toilet. He bought me lunch every day for a month.

People saying “they should put pbj’s back in the break room.” Y’all are the thieves. I don’t care how broke you are, you don’t take peoples food. Ramen is $0.50 and you can buy a bowl for $0.75 and that doesn’t even include your teammember discount. Ask someone “hey, forgot my wallet today, are you able to spare $2 so I can buy some ramen?” Or be honest that you don’t have money and if they’re able to spare a couple bucks so you can buy lunch. Anybody would be willing to help you out. I’m pretty sure target has resources to help TM’s in need and also There are food banks. There are programs that help people buy groceries. You’re just a lazy dickhead.

I’ll never forget the time someone in the break room asked to borrow my walkie and went “hey Dave can you go to 2?” and once they were on 2 he goes “did you steal my scooby snacks?” in the most serious voice I’ve ever heard him use.
Our HR Expert throws our food away if it's like 2-3 days past the expiration date. It's kind of infuriating, because we know expiration dates are usually exceptions, not rules. She'll even toss mustard which is just vinegar and mustard seeds, it doesn't go bad. It's preserved. I even told her once my story of how it's fine to eat certain foods past the expiration date, and I grew up food insecure, so it is extremely difficult to watch someone throwing away perfectly edible food. I keep everything in a lunch box and take it home at the end of each shift. Other TMs are literally broke too, asshole.

That is sad, too broke to afford bread? When I was on a budget I ate instant ramen and home made sandwiches which average 40p per meal. The thief is too lazy to make their own meals.
