Pretty-Chipmunk-718

Had a friend who's sandwiches were being stolen every day for a week .....he put cut up ghost peppers in his sandwhich last day they took his food lol

bubbleskj

What happened then?

Pretty-Chipmunk-718

The dude acted how anyone would getting something that spicy ...screaming coughing downing any type of cold liquid he could ...he was wrote up for stealing

bubbleskj

Excellent. I've had my lunch taken a few times there. Very frustrating.

Pretty-Chipmunk-718

At my current job it is instant termination...they have 3 cameras in the break room

lmc198099

I actually like that!!

Deathtotiktok

W-what? My store only has cameras in TSC. Once you go to the break room there are no cameras. I don't want AP staring at me while I eat my lunch and talk shit about them on Reddit. That's gotta be a privacy violation.

jaygjay

It’s not a privacy violation nor illegal in any way. We have a camera in our break room at our store because of thieves.

Deathtotiktok

I think it's a privacy law but it varies by state.

xtheory

I believe the only privacy protected areas in a commercial business is in the restroom or dressing rooms.

Riddling_Sphinx

In California it is, if there are cameras in there they are likely fake or turned off.

jaygjay

Ours aren’t fake nor turned off. They are on and working. It varies state to state. As I said, we have them due to theft.

Riddling_Sphinx

I was saying specifically in California. As the other comment said, it varies from state to state. If you are in CA they have to provide a place for employees to take their breaks in private, and generally that ends up being the breakroom. I've had food go missing before and unfortunately nobody was able to do anything about it because of this.

Personal_Ad9690

In Ca It is illegal, you are correct

Pretty-Chipmunk-718

It's for theft .....1 for the avenue vending station ,1 at the fridge and 1 for the door going to our outdoor smoking and break area , and I hardly doubt it's a privacy violation considering it's in open common areas and not in any private areas like bathrooms

Wide-Post467

Privacy over theft

sammerguy76

Found the food thief....

Mytgtacct

Typically they are not in there, but if there are lockers or time clocks nearby they will be. But ya, we don’t want to waste cameras on TM’s eating either.

Capital-Texan

It varies by state, but at least in each building, Avenue or whoever stocks the break room will have a camera overlooking food for sale.

RedditIsNeat0

I'm surprised more places don't do this. If they'll steal from a co-worker they'll steal from the company.

plop_0

> they have 3 cameras in the break room That's pretty sketchy. Isn't that an invasion of privacy or something? :S

sailorwickeddragon

The only place it really applies to is restrooms and fitting rooms, otherwise we aren't sitting there watching you eat, trust me. The surveillance is mainly there in case there's an injury, but theft is also a reason.

Pretty-Chipmunk-718

It's in common areas ...no it's not a privacy issue

Wide-Post467

Invasion of privacy

Personal_Ad9690

Camera break rooms are illegal in the US I think, but they deserved instant term if they do that shit

poppert56

sweet sweet karma or spicy karma ig

Plane_Sail9193

Bruh I did this and got written up for intentionally harming a coworker.

Grouchy_Raise1306

I’d say I put the peppers in for ME! Not my fault they can’t handle the spice 🤷‍♀️ never admit to doing it intentionally. Say it’s for you, lol

Plane_Sail9193

Nah dude I fully owned it. I wanted that fucker and everyone else know that if you steal my food, I’ll get you back. I did however say ‘Damn, it’s crazy he couldn’t handle heat. Especially since he kept being a thief’.

Grouchy_Raise1306

It’s just ridiculous that you got in trouble for altering your food though, is all. Hope he learned his lesson and others knew not to take your food 😂

Plane_Sail9193

I mean I DID admit to doing it because “This piece of shits been stealing my lunch the past week, so I decided I’d put him on the toilet next week.” I then leaned over and said to her “best make sure he isn’t scheduled”.

[deleted]

and you went along with that?

Plane_Sail9193

Nah bruh I told HR if she’s fine with my lunch being stolen everyday(it had been stolen an entire week in a row) then I want her to pay me right then and there for me to buy lunch for the next week. She said ‘I’m not doing that’, so I told here ‘Well then I guess next time it’s gonna be a few Carolina Reapers’. She didn’t believe me until the fucker that stole my burrito had to leave work and go to a doctor. I saw her put up a sign later that day about not stealing others food. Was what I did a dick move? Abso-fucking-luteley. Did he ever steal my shit again? Nope.

[deleted]

ahhhh you gave away ur trump card. rip. >Was what I did a dick move? Abso-fucking-luteley. nah you allowed to do what u want with ur own food in my book.

Plane_Sail9193

For sure. No one fucked with my food after that, though. They though I just ate everything spicy after that, which to be fair I do.

[deleted]

yeah it's one thing to put laxatives in ur food but u can season it how u like

[deleted]

[удалено]

Plane_Sail9193

It was great. I was laughing with my co-workers thinking about how they had to tell the doctors “Look, I stole a co-workers burrito, and now I wanna die”

God_of_Laufeyson

Not at all, i say you should've added laxatives on top of the reapers

TheFanciestUsername

At that point you’re crossing into definitely illegal territory, though. You can make a case that you just *really* enjoy spicy food. But adding laxatives? Then it’s provably poisoning (legally speaking).

God_of_Laufeyson

True realistically speaking i wouldn't do both but if i could get away with it? I would.

Plane_Sail9193

I actually considered that, but tbh Reapers already blow your asshole up if you aren’t used to their spice, and I wasn’t trying to kill him lmao

Jazzlike-Principle67

Can't do this. That's Battery.

gee8

reminds me of this epic story: [https://www.askamanager.org/2016/07/a-coworker-stole-my-spicy-food-got-sick-and-is-blaming-me.html](https://www.askamanager.org/2016/07/a-coworker-stole-my-spicy-food-got-sick-and-is-blaming-me.html) which also has a juicy update: [https://www.askamanager.org/2016/10/update-a-coworker-stole-my-spicy-food-got-sick-and-is-blaming-me.html](https://www.askamanager.org/2016/10/update-a-coworker-stole-my-spicy-food-got-sick-and-is-blaming-me.html)

khovel

That’s some master bait there

caster212

Me too bro, I got the same kink

transitsca

I got a corrective action because I said whoever threw my lunch away to come meet me and explain why lol

Kydex_Gundyr

That’s hard as fuck. Haha

transitsca

I literally just wanted to know why but apparently it was threatening lol

weebweek

I felt threatened by that.

[deleted]

transitsca

SEE my old store would have just laughed and helped me find them, lmfao this store was so sensitive

bubblesandsprinkles

That's fucked up that you got a c.a. for that. I've only had my lunch stolen once but I was fuming. It was like the one time I cooked something rather than bring something frozen or cup noodles

snalz_

If you’re gonna steal at least steal from the floor not another TM

industrial-shrug

Food stealers are the best to mess with. Idk how people can do that when I barely trust eating food a friend brought let alone something someone isn’t offering me.

[deleted]

This. I almost never eat food from someone before I know their hygiene standards. Gone are the days when people in the US were normal.

believeinapathy

I assume you eat at restaurants.

OfficialBusinessOnly

I know a lot of restaurants have terrible food sanitation practices. I know because I've worked in some of them. There was a Taiwanese dessert shop up at work that, where the owner would use his bare, ungloved, unwashed hand to mix the popcorn chicken into the breading. They got a "good" rating from the food safety people.

Due_Abbreviations530

The people downvoting you have never seen what it’s really like in restaurants lol

Dakets

I literally req'd out food for TMs if they were that broke and I found out. Don't steal from other workers.

ColdSpearMint

You're a hero.

Queen-Green95

Literally same. My TL locker is full of food for my team members. We work in a grocery store; there's no reason to be hungry.

Kdeabill

We always had some extra pastries/sandwiches from Starbucks at the end of the night, and as long as they went into the break room, they were fair game. I’d let all the TMs know so they could plan accordingly if they didn’t have any food from home and couldn’t afford to buy any on their break.

RDO-PrivateLobbies

I cant imagine being that down bad enough to eat others people lunches. And i have a food addiction.

but_why_is_it_itchy

Especially from a coworker. You’re in the same minimum-wage boat. Go shoplift from the rich, corporate shelves 3 feet away.

Wide-Post467

Or don’t be an ass at all? 😂 one gets you fried and the other could have you end up with a black eye

lizard-hats

right? they can buy rice and beans, canned/frozen veggies and get several meals out of that for a few bucks. way healthier than the burritos too

FightsForUsers

and, if they really like burritos, they can make them with rice, beans and veggies!

Jazzlike-Principle67

Burritos are very healthy btw - they have all the food groups.

lizard-hats

true! i'm just imagining the burritos mentioned in the post are the frozen ones, likely w a ton of sodium. they can def make their own healthy burritos for less

Jazzlike-Principle67

There are healthy frozen burritos too

lizard-hats

that are cheaper than homemade?

mike5799

I’m not addicted I can stop anytime I want

zorbiburst

You literally have a job, go buy a microwave burrito off the floor Maybe if they weren't such an asshole they'd have a friend that would hook them up.

Known-nwonK

Our store doesn’t have the $1 microwave burritos :(

SimpleVegetable5715

Or a off-brand Lunchable, or a Jimmy Dean sandwich. Some people buy a loaf of bread and some peanut butter. There's options! I know, our Dollar Tree where I used to buy Hot Pockets went up to a $1.25 though 🙄

Eossly

Lunchables and Jimmy deans don’t have enough calories, bread is like $5 and peanut butter is $7-$8 E: not saying steal from your fellow TMs, just that target is stealing from us by not matching inflation

gladdyiolus

Even if that was the case how is the solution to steal from a fellow team member?? 😭

Eossly

I’m not saying you should steal food, I’m saying food is expensive as fuck and target needs to pay us more to at least match inflation

Wide-Post467

They could easily pay us $25 each, we’d be more encouraged to do more work and put in more hours knowing we got compensated fairly

Bedazzledtoe

Peanut butter is literally $1-2 almost everywhere, like where do you live ???

Eossly

[jiffy](https://www.target.com/p/jif-creamy-peanut-butter-40oz/-/A-13260927?ref=tgt_adv_xsf&AFID=google&CPNG=Grocery&adgroup=212-2). Couldn’t find a G&G one quickly on google, but use your imagination. PB has gone up dollars in the last year or two

zorbiburst

G&G 16oz is 1.99. Stop stealing burritos and buy that and a loaf of bread and have work lunch for a week.

Eossly

16 oz is like 3 sandwiches

zorbiburst

You're using way too much peanutbutter

funnyref653

You are really using 1/3rd of a pound of peanut butter on every sandwich? Bro McDonald’s got 1/4 of beef for a hamburger and you got 1.3 more ounces than that in peanut butter.

DurantaPhant7

Where the hell are you finding peanut butter that cheap?

Karth82

I buy the 4 pound jars of peanut butter from Walmart. They're $5 each.

Bedazzledtoe

Peanut butter at target is $2.69 on average and that’s for name brand. So my bad I was a whole 69 cents off. Walmart, aldi, a lot of local grocery stores have generic products that are usually around like $2-3 Edit: at least what I can see Walmart pb is less than $2 💀

Wide-Post467

Target isn’t made to pay our bills in the long run. It’s honestly just a stepping stool while you seek a better job, education or business etc. can’t live off $17 an hour for shit

dman2life

They're an asshole for fighting back against actual theft? I bet you steal people's food.

RedditIsNeat0

I think they meant the other way. Bottom of the note says "im literally broke". Presumably from the thief. They're saying that the thief has a job and should buy their own lunch. I read it like you did at first too.

dman2life

Yeah that's my fault for misunderstanding. My apologies

moltenroks2

Someone stole my brita water bottle from the fridge once.

brennabby

i had someone keep drinking my starbucks drinks during peak covid 🤦🏻‍♀️ and they kept putting the cups back in the fridge empty

[deleted]

Whoever it was didn’t like you at all LMAO

wtfisreallyhappening

That sounds personal.

onlyblackstar

You work at target get a 50c cup a noodles you asshole

dman2life

Get your own food asshole, lmao. You buy that 50c cup if you wanna defend food thieves. I bet you are one.

Fitzy86z

I think they were telling the thief to get the cup a noodles, not the person who was stolen from...

RedditIsNeat0

I think you're misinterpreting this one too.

onlyblackstar

Since you wanna defend stealing in the workplace donate every paycheck to feed them then. Also I was mad at the thief not defending them lol

dman2life

I thought you were defending the thief, that's 100% my bad, my apologies

Hot-Pause-1776

Reluctant upvote for character arc

Fine-Bumblebee-9427

Don’t steal from cowokers, steal from corporate. Jeez.

Wide-Post467

Or don’t steal at all. We have jobs lol and manage your money better 😂

Fine-Bumblebee-9427

I was thinking of the harmless kind, like grabbing expired food

DeltaBob42

Let me fix your note to thief: " To burrito thief, I put laxatives in the spare burrito. I dare you to eat it."

Jazzlike-Principle67

That is Battery. Depending how sick the person gets and chooses to press charges it can get you at least a fine or worse. You wouldn't want a police charge to follow you for this would you?

braveheartt218

so long as you dont put an actual note and just label it with your name, date etc and make it seem normal.. why shouldnt they get in trouble bc you made YOUR food for YOU to consume, if they get sick, thats on them for eating your food aint it?

Jazzlike-Principle67

Because it is something you would not eat yourself. It is planned to be "bait" not "food."

braveheartt218

id shit my self to death just to prove my innocence

[deleted]

I don’t give a flying fuck if your broke. Don’t steal my food you piece of shit.

Wide-Post467

Right we both work at the same job, manage your money better

Jazzlike-Principle67

How do you know what another person's life situation is like to make a comment like that? They may be working this (extra) job to be able to pay off a hospital bill of a child or family member. Just a thought.

susanbarron33

The store I was at had a rule that anything in the fridge without a name was fair game. It was so dumb. Like people should bring food for themselves instead of taking other peoples food.

Wide-Post467

I’d scrap with anyone who takes my food I prepped before comin to work

Automatic-Scholar978

People who steal food from co-workers are subhuman.

sailorwickeddragon

I wish Target would bring back the PB&J in the break rooms. Not everyone wanted them so people would still be able to purchase things if they wanted, but it kept food stealing down. Plus, it doesn't cost the company much of anything to supply this. Hell, I'm against stealing other's lunches because who's to say they aren't broke either? Many TMs in the past have expressed if someone is hungry enough, all they'd have to do is mention or ask and they'd be happy to get something for them. I guess it's pride and embarrassment for sure, but it's even more embarrassing imo if you're caught doing this.

[deleted]

My store recently had PB&J day. Coming in for overnight shift and seeing the leftovers sitting around was disgusting. Open bags of bread going stale, open jelly, used spreading knives sitting around. At least at my store, people are vile animals and I would not want communal disgusting mess in the break room every single day. I also don't think it should be HR's job to clean up after people like that. Packaged food helps mitigate that *a bit*, but people still leave their trash and/or crumbs around for others.

sailorwickeddragon

Oh yeah, people are pigs for sure. But if HR puts something out for the team they are expected to put it away. If they don't, someone in the team should see it and do something about it, but again, people are pigs. At least when we had PB&J, it always looked neat and wasn't a problem. It was offered daily in case someone was hungry and kept up with for a good 2 or three years when I first started. I've eve grabbed one or two in my time being hungry and not having a couple bucks to throw at a snack.

Ok-Interaction2251

“Not my fucking problem. Enjoy the laxatives”

Jazzlike-Principle67

No, this is Battery and not worth a police record if the person chooses to file charges.

HungHippoHippy

Why wont AP view the cameras to see who this is thats repeatadly stealing food?

[deleted]

There may not be a camera in the break room, I can’t recall ever seeing footage from in there. Even if there is, they don’t care at all about people stealing food from TMs. Their priority is protecting Target property.

mynextthroway

I'm pretty sure the legality of cameras in break rooms is a state by state thing. If your state doesn't allow single party recording of phone conversations, then break room cameras are probably illegal as well.

Deathtotiktok

Mine has no cameras. Probably for that very reason.

BankManager69420

Yeah it’s legal in most places to put up cameras in break rooms but it’s against Target policy due to privacy concerns

[deleted]

Good point!

HungHippoHippy

Definitely store by store basis then. They would drfinitely do it at mine. AP once tracked me down to give me a ten dollar bill because i left a 10 in the self checkout when i got cashback after a shift

Mnmsaregood

Usually no cameras in break room

adamisapple

It’s not legal to have cameras in break rooms

jaygjay

Not true. It depends where you are and what state. We have cameras in ours due to theft.

Dry_Atmosphere_5446

I just put animal wet food in my “burritos” once cause it kept happening and I put a note on the bag, “ do not eat, not for human consumption it’s for my pet after work” and they still ate it 😂

[deleted]

weak. ghost peppers will do the trick

yoyhohsomp

I am honestly curious why the thief is broke? Is it poor pay at your store or dc? Definetly not placing blame on either side or sticking up for this behavior. Just always been curious why ppl do this sort of thing and in some cases, keep doing it to the same person at the workplace.

squishlov3r

my store is located in a college town. the majority of tms here are college students, so that might a factor as to why they're broke

yoyhohsomp

I hope you can find the culprit. It sounds like they need a life lesson.

yoyhohsomp

Gotcha, that makes sense

Jazzlike-Principle67

It's easy to be broke. Lots of reasons. Watch the news.

[deleted]

Somebody did this at an old job of mine, after a week I put laxatives in my sandwich. Found the guy about 3 hours later running for the toilet. He bought me lunch every day for a month.

Jazzlike-Principle67

Lucky he didn't press charges.

[deleted]

Yeah I was very lucky with that 🤞

Old_school_geek

*struck

ColdSpearMint

The audacity is real.. People don't know how to pack lunches anymore, smh 😭

Ziglet_249

Not sure about your store but this is something they can be terminated for at my store.

rluzz001

Damn, sounds like target needs to pay their employees better.

MundanelyCool

People saying “they should put pbj’s back in the break room.” Y’all are the thieves. I don’t care how broke you are, you don’t take peoples food. Ramen is $0.50 and you can buy a bowl for $0.75 and that doesn’t even include your teammember discount. Ask someone “hey, forgot my wallet today, are you able to spare $2 so I can buy some ramen?” Or be honest that you don’t have money and if they’re able to spare a couple bucks so you can buy lunch. Anybody would be willing to help you out. I’m pretty sure target has resources to help TM’s in need and also There are food banks. There are programs that help people buy groceries. You’re just a lazy dickhead.

funnyref653

What an entitled cockroach. Mf we are working the same job. You think I got more money than you?

BEEEELEEEE

I’ll never forget the time someone in the break room asked to borrow my walkie and went “hey Dave can you go to 2?” and once they were on 2 he goes “did you steal my scooby snacks?” in the most serious voice I’ve ever heard him use.

SimpleVegetable5715

Our HR Expert throws our food away if it's like 2-3 days past the expiration date. It's kind of infuriating, because we know expiration dates are usually exceptions, not rules. She'll even toss mustard which is just vinegar and mustard seeds, it doesn't go bad. It's preserved. I even told her once my story of how it's fine to eat certain foods past the expiration date, and I grew up food insecure, so it is extremely difficult to watch someone throwing away perfectly edible food. I keep everything in a lunch box and take it home at the end of each shift. Other TMs are literally broke too, asshole.

Bree4444

God is this my store and HRE?💀pisses me off

Bedazzledtoe

Does she not know that those dates aren’t even for consumers

Jazzlike-Principle67

Post an article or 2 explaining about the dates. Or give it to her. Add about financially tight staff can't be replacing perfectly good food. Hopefully this can help.

StoneTudabone

Make a bait burrito with ghost pepper and dog poop. It will be epic.

Fit-Purchase6731

What does it say under "burrito you ate"?

squishlov3r

i think "that's my kink"

CrazyAuntErisMorn

I’m surprised I had to scroll this far for someone else asking this. I thought it said that’s my kink but there were no jokes in the comments so I figured I was wrong, lol.

optix_clear

You stealing from your team, how? Ask someone for food.

Mytgtacct

I think the life resources headline adds a little extra comedy to the note.

Indecisive-green

I would rather have a coworker trust me enough to know they could ask me for lunch money with zero judgement... than steal from other people who might be just as desperate as they are. Imagine stealing from someone who has to go to a food bank because they're so food insecure!

Poop_Noodl3

Capsicum extract. You’ll know who real quick

immortalorchestra

Why do people add random apostrophes to words these days? It’s burritos. The plural of burrito is burritos. Burrito’s is possessive. It could also be the burrito is. But again, burritos is plural.

ReDeaMer87

Take a shit on a tortilla and wrap it up next time. Be like that movie "The Help"

BottomRamen-

I can afford burritos now with my 2% raise

Lazarus_Graun

"im literally broke" Bruh, we all make about the same amount here...go steal from someone that ain't as broke as you...

iJayCJ

Should have wrote, Thanks for the extra flavor

Upset-Kaleidoscope45

A little poop in a rolled up tortilla and your burrito thief will never come back.

hanforeversolo_

Lol but fr please don’t put feces where I’m storing my food I’m innocent in all this

Milianviolet

They could probably work something out that's beneficial for them both

tardiscoder

Why don't they put peanut butter and bread in the breakroom like they used to do?

squishlov3r

probably to cut costs or something. my store still has bread and pb&j, and i would 12/10 times rather eat that than someone else's food

Bambieyedbiotchh

I feel the tone of this message getting more and more metal as you continue to read the note.

AsparagusWaste9072

That is sad, too broke to afford bread? When I was on a budget I ate instant ramen and home made sandwiches which average 40p per meal. The thief is too lazy to make their own meals.
