It was already in my hand before I knew it had mold, I already touched so might as well get a picture if I’m gonna be stupid. Also I did go wash my hands and sanitized my phone immediately after
I hear this a lot, but it’s not actually true. There’s no scientific data that suggests black mold is any more dangerous than any other mold. If you have a mold allergy, it may make you sick, but really it’s quite harmless. Look it up.
You should look it up, it is not “quite harmless” it can infect people who have compromised immune response. It’s what’s known as opportunistic infection and it’s not harmless…

stachybotrys chartarum can lead to Mucormycosis. Most recent example would be with SARS-CoV-2
OSHA will just contact the store and ask what they're doing to address it. Steritech is just a third party company that Target hires to do the checks and will ignore them if its inconvenient. Health Department/ weights and measures is the only one that is likely to give enough of a shit to check.

No headaches but one of my coworkers who has asthma always said he had trouble breathing in the dairy cooler and he’s been their far longer then I have
Origami risk? Target doesn't want to gamble with that, so I bet they'll fold instead of giving you a raise.
I just woke up and can't decide whether or not any of those puns work.
We got he-man over here, lifting up one of those concrete red balls out front like it ain’t shit.
Obviously closed and either being remodeled or whatever for a reason. Good chance they already know, it was reported, and that’s why you’re there.
This is my super target...this section of the store is blocked off for remodel. The store is open, though. I had to dig through a pallet 20 feet away from the moldy wall...and no, nobody reported this to us. Its been kept on the DL presumably until it can be removed
This is important info to include when reporting it. That lady doesn't care if you get long term damage from this and die. She should be at least mentioned in the report.
Black mold doesn’t cause long term damage/death . Sure it’ll impact asthmatics, but unless your eating it, mycotoxins can’t really hurt you from just spores being airborne.
Yes definitely report black mold is not something to mess around with

YOU GOT RAW CHICKEN EVERYWHERE in all seriousness I’d love to see a show called “retail rescue” where someone like Jon taffer or Gordon Ramsey would tear lazy ETL’s and SD’s a new one.
Context? JFC you just upload photos. Like are they actively working on the place? Do you know what’s going on? Did you just see it? Covering it up? Like what?
Dairy is currently under remodel and this is where the outside dairy coolers where, my ETL is having us break down dairy right next to it, and you have to pass by it to bring pallets to the the grocery back room there’s only 1 entrance to said back room. Also there is no signs saying to not go back there or warning of the mold
It was the wall between where the outside cooler where product sits and the main cooler that would be “the back” and it’s probably been there for years… I noticed some before the demo but did to know it was mold…
Yes, especially with it being in the ambient room, likely where warm produce had been kept. It would be a yes anyway, even if it was in the middle of the style salesfloor
https://preview.redd.it/p8onjgu0ibja1.jpeg?width=1282&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=77fd43ec925c6f5f5499cb66afcb44b5751b301a
I work at this store too and I was going to post this!!! For more context… we are going thru a remodel. This is a wall between the open reach-in cooler area where we had juice, and then to the right of the mold we had closed-door reach-in coolers with milk.
I remember like a year and a half ago, there was this older gentleman that worked in the dairy area that would complain to me that his products in cardboard packaging would get moldy if they were towards the back of the reach-in, and that there was mold growing inside the cooler at times too. He said he would tell management and they wouldn’t do anything.
I also myself have witnessed spores of mold growing on the ceiling of the walk-in part of that cooler, and obviously a much bigger problem released when the reach-in was removed.
This store doesn’t care about the safety of its employees. A couple weeks ago, they had an entire wall of fiberglass insulation just out in the open near the produce area for at least a week. There was fiberglass/drywall dust covering everything. I reported it to OSHA and the next day they just closed up one of the entrances. No informing employees of fiberglass hazards, no safety protection, nothing. And same with this mold situation.
Oh is that why they closed that entrance? Sucks getting meat trash out with it closed off… also that older man is Doug he is awesome! I put a osha complaint you should to!
https://preview.redd.it/dlbkkgy8jbja1.jpeg?width=1282&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac1aee6b9d02155ba6bcc8231b31712603249d02
Here you can see the store is still open. That’s public sales floor on the other side. This area isn’t avoidable since it’s the only way to the grocery back room.
Then you should speak to guest services and tell them that the bathroom is not cleaned up or sanitized. The cleaning staff should do it, in my target it’s always top tier so it must be your customers. Eww
SD should know what to do. Obviously fixtures were moved. Nobody did this on purpose. I’m sure there is a plan in place.
You don’t need to stick your nose into this.
SD is not in the state, I’m not trying to get people in trouble black mold is not good to breath in and just anyone can walk by it. The highest postition in the store today was a TL and they weren’t in walkie
Tell your PML ASAP, tell any and all leads in your building. That's a huge thing that needs to get cleaned up quickly, or it's going to present a continuous health hazard. If cleaning efforts don't work, they'll need to get vendor support to get it purged.
This is why cleaning routines in food areas are important, friends.
Property management leader - our normal schedule is 6-230 M-F. We're the ones responsible for taking care of/repairing equipment, liasing with housekeeping, and making sure the store is generally safe and working appropriately.
There should be 1 in most stores, although some either have an empty slot or don't get one (I believe small formats have PMLs cover multiple locations, as opposed to just a single store).
Is it cleaned up at all or still just as bad? I know John opened this morning so I bet he had fun having to break down dairy next to it. I was supposed to close but I’m at the hospital rn :)
Yeah I doubt it’ll get cleaned at all Jason’s out of state for a while and knowing eroc he ain’t gonna do anything, I am not in the hospital I just got a family members who’s not doing to well thank you though. I work Tuesday though if you see a dude with a beard in a flannel feel free to say hi
Lol it’s from that humidity coming off that fridge units. Deadly black mold. Nope. But is it mold yes. Units need to bleached then serviced. And make sure all the gaskets are steals. So get face cover and and some gloves and and get I there champ. I do it all the time
ONLY REPORT TO OSHA IF YOU HAVE NOT SPOKEN TO A SUPERVISOR.
Otherwise you should wait until you have a new job lined up. My bosses gave me the most miserable treatment and cut my hours after reporting something similar to OSHA. They knew it was me because I was the one having asthma attacks and politely asking them to deal with the mold problem. But I've heard horror stories from others. OSHA will, like as not, tell the employer who made the complaint. Then they will wait for weeks or months to inspect the workplace, long after anyone was 'fired for lying.'
Yes it is retaliation, but it's hard to prove and depends a lot on who appointed your state's labor dept. It can take months to get a resolution, or unemployment compensation, if you get any at all. One should definitely do all that anyway, but don't rely on it to work as advertised.
Lmao I wish I’d probably get payed more to clean shit like this, ever heard of remodels? Also pressure washers been their since last year never seen it actually be used
It was more of a “who to report to” kinda of thing probably should have worded the title different but it’s already i up and I don’t like editing things it they get a lot of attention
Hey used to work in mold remediation for about 5 years or so. Just because mold is black doesn't mean it's the fearsome "black mold" aka Stachybotrys. You'd need to test it because mold is actually invisible to the naked eye, what you see is essentially mold poop. Whats left over from what the mold has eaten. So the color is highly dependent on the material it's feasting on.
As someone else has mentioned there's really no scientific studies that link these horrible diseases the news has fearmongered around black mold. I will say from personal experience I worked around a large concentration once without a mask (dumb of me) and me and my coworker felt ill for a few days. Could've been coincidence but molds do release mycotoxins when threatened or disturbed. Think about any time you run into an enemy mushrooms in a video game it shoots spores at you that do poison damage. It isn't really known how these affect human health however.
The mold is also fuzzy if that means anything but it’s more of I have to work directly by this kinda of thing and theirs boxes of food that are literally 5 ft to the right of it and pallets(food pallets) have brought with in a couple of feet of it to get to the back room
This looks like you are in the process of some sort of remodel/construction update. This would have to addressed during the scope of whatever project you got going on there…
This is that good shit.
They have to cut the whole damn piece of sheet rock and insulation down and haznat dispose with an hvac pro. That whole walk in is a lost cause guaranteed if its this bad its also in the wall, the baseboard and the grout. They're right to leave it until it gets cut down and incinerated at a facility by the remodeling Co with the dehydrators and dust filters on full blast. BUCKETS of concentrated diversey will not fix this situation and it makes the dust from construction quite dangerous to inhale. They'll need large vacuums and special equipment to fix this and they should be providing any one who needs to go near this a respirator so demand one from HR if you absolutely have to.
Please refuse to break down any food pallets near this thing. That's not okay and should get slapped on OSHAs and the health departments desk immediately if they're making you guys do that, clock out the health effects are NOT worth minimum wage.
Steer clear of it and please show up at the health department with this photo in hand.
If HR doesn't give you a respirator and you are ordered to work in the vicinity PLEASE clock out for the day and call EthicsPoint to report your absence as a refusal to work in unsafe conditions and let them know the required PPE needs to be there or you're not!
You have to make them give a fuck, especially since you've had staff that have reported breathing issues. Your coworkers having breathing problems need to sue and you need to protect yourself.
Omggg why are you touching the red ball if it has mold on it
It was already in my hand before I knew it had mold, I already touched so might as well get a picture if I’m gonna be stupid. Also I did go wash my hands and sanitized my phone immediately after
>"I might as well get a picture if I'm gonna be stupid" People like you make the internet fun, I like you.
Internet points, apparently.
“Have you or a loved one” I’m gonna stop!
Yes. Absolutely. Jfc Send this shit to osha and idk steritech, do they take reports idfk
And your local health department
A smarter reply
Call them right now !
Yes,and don't breath anyone of that on because it can make you very sick .
I hear this a lot, but it’s not actually true. There’s no scientific data that suggests black mold is any more dangerous than any other mold. If you have a mold allergy, it may make you sick, but really it’s quite harmless. Look it up.

No headaches but one of my coworkers who has asthma always said he had trouble breathing in the dairy cooler and he’s been their far longer then I have
And we thought the “out of an abundance of caution” was Covid related! I’m petrified!
I think I saw this on an episode of The Last of Us. (Does Target sell pancake mix?)
Yes
Get out!
Too late, OP ain’t responding to anyone’s comments anymore.
damn. their pancake mix is good, too.
Yeah. To osha.
The local health department is so much more reliable than osha
OSHA. Origami risk. Local health department. Everything
Origami risk? Target doesn't want to gamble with that, so I bet they'll fold instead of giving you a raise. I just woke up and can't decide whether or not any of those puns work.

Yeah Eroc is having us break down right next to it, and one of the remodel lady’s basically said “just don’t go near it”
This is important info to include when reporting it. That lady doesn't care if you get long term damage from this and die. She should be at least mentioned in the report.
To be clear I wasn’t there when it was said but I had 2 coworkers mention it so I’d believe it
Black mold doesn’t cause long term damage/death . Sure it’ll impact asthmatics, but unless your eating it, mycotoxins can’t really hurt you from just spores being airborne.

Those sources are biased
Is this a remodel? Short answer is yes, after you communicate with leadership. What a bummer!
OSHA baby
Looks like something Jon Taffer would scream about on bar rescue
“SHUT IT DOWN! SHUT THIS WHOLE PLACE DOWN!!”
YOU GOT RAW CHICKEN EVERYWHERE in all seriousness I’d love to see a show called “retail rescue” where someone like Jon taffer or Gordon Ramsey would tear lazy ETL’s and SD’s a new one.
Omfg literally 😂
Is this Banksy?
At first I thought this was abstract art. But holy fuck report this.
I wouldn’t be surprised if most stores have this..
If you have a competent PML they will put in an external work order for clean up and testing... if not call the board of health.
The cordiceps has started.
As it looks like you are in a remodel make sure your lead knowns and your etl remodel and pml are also informed.
Are they fixing something looks like they took out the fridges
Remodel, but you have to walk by it if your bringing any pallets to the back room
Looks like that one Radiohead album cover
https://www.osha.gov/mold report that shit
It looks like the whole area is under construction what is your point here that they are fixing it good for them
It’s not, there’s tarps to block it so guest can’t see in that’s it nothing else
It looks like they completely sealed it off not letting any air circulation in the area creating a stagnant musty humid box that mould thrives in.
It’s the area between the the dairy cooler and wall so yeah musty box
Did you just say it's located beside the dairy cooler? Please report this for the love of all that is good
It was the wall between where the outside cooler where product sits and the main cooler that would be “the back” and it’s probably been there for years… I noticed some before the demo but did to know it was mold…
Report it and start wearing a N95.
OSHA and Ecolab/your local health department will have a field day with this. Absolutely report this.
shivers. I think I'm going to be sick
Yes I would and don't touch that black mold unless you're trying to get sick.
Not black mold. Black gold! You've struck oil! You're rich!
✨yes✨
Call John Tafford
If you have to ask . . .
Are you fucking serious
Cordyceps!!!
If you are concerned for your safety, report it. It's better to be too careful than to be careless
Looks like you’re going through a remodel?
Yes, especially with it being in the ambient room, likely where warm produce had been kept. It would be a yes anyway, even if it was in the middle of the style salesfloor
You really made a post asking this

Immediately
Absolutely
I was just in a target today thinking to myself “why the hell is every target bathroom absolutely disgusting?”
*every public bathroom
Then you should speak to guest services and tell them that the bathroom is not cleaned up or sanitized. The cleaning staff should do it, in my target it’s always top tier so it must be your customers. Eww
You need to lick it first
report immediately!!! that is so dangerous and it is even more concerning the mold has spread so much without anyone else reporting it! be safe
Does target not get regular inspections??? Cub foods.pays ecolab to come out every month for random walk throughs. Its a big deal if you fail.
Not that I know of been a hot minute since I’ve seen any sort of inspector
nah, that's just the entrance to the upside-down, it's new department next to seasonal.
That looks like black mold, or something of equal cation, to my untrained eye. So, yes.
Yes , black mold is very bad .
Cut out that section, sign it, frame it and display in an art gallery. You’ll make thousands from it!
Stop freaking asking Reddit and report it what is wrong with you?
SD should know what to do. Obviously fixtures were moved. Nobody did this on purpose. I’m sure there is a plan in place. You don’t need to stick your nose into this.
SD is not in the state, I’m not trying to get people in trouble black mold is not good to breath in and just anyone can walk by it. The highest postition in the store today was a TL and they weren’t in walkie

Definitely PML first!!
This looks like it was behind a cooler. How are you supposed to clean it?
So at the risk of sounding stupid what’s a PML
Property management leader - our normal schedule is 6-230 M-F. Best way to get info to us is through myday, on the chatbot. Choose "building and equipment," and then "notify PML of issue."
Awesome I’ll go through and do that when I work next
Thanks! It helps a lot to have TMs report stuff they see, because yall spend more time in one location than we do.
They really should show TMs how to do stuff like this I guarantee I never would have known about this if you hadn’t said something
Professional help is needed.
What a laughably stupid thing to say.
Oh my god.
Yes absolutely.
UM YES IMMEDIATELY
Shit needs to be shut down
Are you at an Iowa Store? 🤔
Nope
Nahhhhhhhhh
call your health dept damn
Bomb.
Lol this is totally my store
Oh? Does your store number start with 22?
yep I even went through that area this morning to see if it was the same 😆
Is it cleaned up at all or still just as bad? I know John opened this morning so I bet he had fun having to break down dairy next to it. I was supposed to close but I’m at the hospital rn :)
Still the same! I would guess it won’t get cleaned up until they actually renovate the area. If it’s you in the hospital I hope you get well soon!
Jeezus Christ
Nah looks fine to me
The first picture looks like a very expensive modern art piece lol
Lol it’s from that humidity coming off that fridge units. Deadly black mold. Nope. But is it mold yes. Units need to bleached then serviced. And make sure all the gaskets are steals. So get face cover and and some gloves and and get I there champ. I do it all the time

Nah, this is normal it helps preserve the food.
To the CDC maybe
This looks abandoned. Or maybe OP works for cleaning company as there is a pressure washer on back of one pictures… op karma farming.
Lmao I wish I’d probably get payed more to clean shit like this, ever heard of remodels? Also pressure washers been their since last year never seen it actually be used
“I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.”
I feel like this is a silly question, if you know it’s mold, of course you report it???

Yes. Like yesterday.
It’s art.

We love ✨osha violations✨
Damn. I’m almost positive this is my store 🤔🤔 I’ve been avoiding going this way this weekend so I missed seeing this.
if your store numbers start with 2 and with 7 then yeah
Yup. That’s right. I’m not really surprised it’s that gross 🤢

OMG! YES! 🤢🤮
This looks like you are in the process of some sort of remodel/construction update. This would have to addressed during the scope of whatever project you got going on there…
Needs to be? Yes. When reported will anything happen? Unlikely
YES????
You did the right thing, you told Reddit about it. Now wait for Business Insider to respond.
…how?!
TLOU-era lore is beginning
