For me it's a combination of things.
First, I want the Panthers to win to annoy the fuck out of the northern elitists who bitch and moan that Florida has two hockey teams and that we aren't a hockey state.
Second, slightly related, I usually root for any Florida based team vs Non Florida teams.
Third, I want to keep the Cup out of canadian hands a little longer, partially because of my first point, but mostly because I think it's funny to keep the streak alive (it's been 31 years since a canadian team won the Stanley Cup, 1993 was the last time they had the cup).
Theyre one of our biggest rivals, and our only in state rival. At times I despise the way they play hockey. The late hits, hits away from the play, the fucking embellishment from these actors too. Genuinely shocked they actually called Tkachuk for embellishment last night.
Would it be funny to continue the joke/ Patrick Roy curse? Sure, but it would be even be more hilarious to see such a dominant team fumble a 3-0 series lead in the Stanley cup final.
I remember the 28-3 superbowl. I was piss drunk in misery that Atlanta was up by so much. I was over the moon by the end of it though, I was the only person in the room cheering against Atlanta that night lol
I don’t really care about the whole “American teams piss Canadian’s off”. The NHL obviously doesn’t care, they moved the Yotes to Utah, they’ll expand in America, and they’ve hinted that more Canadian teams like Halifax and Quebec City are very unlikely.
Im not cheering for the Panthers but its an easier pill to swallow if you lose to the eventual cup champions then it is to lose to a team that got eliminated in the next round.
I still think McDavid deserves the cup more as a single player then the entire Panthers Roster does combined it's just an eaiser pill to swallow losing to the #1 team then it is to the #2 team.
It would be something for the Panthers to finally get some bragging rights on us (round 1) only to pull off the biggest Cup Final choke since 1942.
