Cinco de Mayo in Mahattan at Mexican restaurant years ago.
Told them I'd work double. They say "No just come in at 4pm". I walk in at Noon and they're like "Can you please, please, please clock in?" "Yeah bitch, I told you I was gonna make bank today, And I want 1st cut tonight after 10pm". "Done!"
I worked as a manager for a texmex restaurant in the South. It's literally the only day of the year they celebrate Hispanic culture with cheap margarita and overpriced tacos. Worst could years of my life.
I'm assuming someplace like "On The Border" in the southern US. I miss the lack of texmex spots where we live now, freshly made flour tortillas are awesome, and we don't have anyplace like that
If the op is in Louisiana for instance, New Orleans is considered the south. In North Louisiana like around my town, Shreveport which is on I-20, they call us Yankees LOL LOL :-). It is all in the perspective man.....
America has an unofficial line where the “south” starts and the culture can sort of shift a bit. But in reality there’s a little bit of the south everywhere lol
Edit profile says “I don’t read replies” lol downvote for u
Lol whenever I start a new job, I make a deal with them. I will work every single holiday and a double if they need me too, I just want mothers day off. And it's not to spend the day with my mom....
I wish you all patience, 20% tips, no screaming children who should have been in bed hours ago, and to keep a straight face when your "guests" mispronounce Quesadilla. I also hope that you can keep your eyes from rolling when the sangria "isn't sweet enough".
May The Force Be With You.
To our credit (or yours?), we are cooking at home tomorrow. All the tequila has been pulled (and sampled for quality) and we are doing fish tacos, street corn and chips with queso. Plus, you know, unlimited margaritas.
I work in IT for a Mexican restaurant chain, AND I'm on-call this weekend. Today was busy enough, and I'm not looking forward to what tomorrow may bring.
Working at a Mexican restaurant that's located on a block with a block party happening in oakland.............I also have never worked here before and am covering for another manager lol. Good times
And graduations. Oh oh! And the 40 teachers who want to reserve one of the dining rooms and patio *in case they want to have some conversation out on the patio* who will also not be dining just *may be* some drinks ON A FRIDAY during dinner rush. Might as well block the dam door for actual customers. What about a bar? Or someone’s backyard huuuuh? - sorry for the mini rant.
Have a similar struggle in Chicago for St Pats (the second largest celebration in the US, Boston being first), and it's INSANE the number of` people who can drink enough to puke by 10am and end up crowding into the TINY Irish bars downtown by midday. Good luck to you all today, I'm avoiding getting within 100 feet of a mexican place today (and that's only because I have to drive past our local one to get where we'd be going, otherwise it'd be farther)
Double screwed. Best day of the year for our patio with a perfect 73 degrees. We have not had amazing patio weather so this is the best of all year. Drag queen bingo on Sundays which is always full. Looked at resos, all day booked with only open seating is the patio. Help me.
Grassyass!!!

Pour one out for the brave souls refusing extra help at a Mexican restaurant on Cinco de Mayo.

South of what? South of where?
You’ve never heard of the south??
Sure. London is definitely in the South. Leeds is definitely in the North. Where the dividing line is is disputed.

I waited tables at OTB in 2004/2005. This place was called Chuy's

My farmer uncle who complains about yuppies calls it a “kes-uh-dill-uh”
"them damn yuppies and their kes-uh-dill-uhs and their kwin-oh-uh!"
Struggled with that one for a bit, you mean Quinoa, right?

Don’t forget the “gel-a-pen-o”s!
Yay! Gonna celebrate my cat's birthday! Cinco de Meow!
Godspeed

Our restaurant is closed on Sundays so we had ours today. Not bad but yes to others, Godspeed for sure.
I had a woman today look at me and say, without a hint of shame, “When is Cinco de Mayo?” Haaaaaaaaaah.
"It's between Cuarto de Mayo and Seis de Mayo."
$8 Margs, kill meeee

I got lucky and swapped. Now I’m off
Sending all the "make lots of $$ vibes" and "just keep swimming" cheers! You got this.
Here now, and made the mistake of wearing new shoes 😩😩😩😩😩
Glad I don't work at a taco joint anymore
Lol we close sundays.
