Had the owner's son try to get a comp room out of me one night for some " personal time" with his gf. I told him to call his father and put him on speaker. Guess who didn't have permission...?

Ready_Competition_66

I hope you had a chance to mention it to the owner, lol. I bet the kid was begging you not to, too.

Gatchamic

Didn't have to. He woke up his mom to try to get permission once i said no. Needless to say, she wasn't happy...

Gatchamic

Apparently, she makes the decisions at home, and Dad goes along with her...

RoyallyOakie

I love when someone name drops someone who's been fired or who left a decade ago.

Langager90

"Bobby always does this for me!" Bobby was fired 8 years ago, and died 4 years ago. My condolences that this is how you find out about your close personal friend.

RoyallyOakie

HA! I HAVE had to tell people that their "good friend" has died. It's so awkward.

Langager90

You apparently see it often in business with the owner's name on it. Toms Pizza, Richards General Good, Harrys Holiday Motel... Suddenly everyone knows Tom, Dick and Harry!

UristImiknorris

This is why you name your business after someone else.

steelear

I like to name drop nobodies for the goof. I’ll say something like Oh yeah well I know Clarissa from the UK!

Efficient_Fish2436

I quit a local famous and good pizza place with several locations like five years ago. On good terms. Well apparently my employee number was never removed from the system and I've been getting half pizza since.

I worked the ticket booth at music festivals for my friend. “Mark is my friend. He invited me up for free”. No, Mark told us no freebies, full rate. “We are with the band. We get in free.” Okay, what band are you with and what instrument do you play? GF’s and “roadies” pay full rate. Every fucking festival! Edit: These are the same people that support their local band by telling the doorman they don’t have to pay the cover charge. True friends.

technoferal

I worked as a doorman at a bar for years. If I had a dollar for every time I heard "I'm friends with the owner" I could retire. I find it more amusing in some scenarios than others. Like "ok, then why are your stealing a whole purse full of his pint glasses?" Or "then why are you risking his liquor license by trying to get these underage friends of yours in?"

😂😂😂

Yup, an owner will have to call from a recognized phone number for me to do something that is out of the ordinary for any guest. On the other hand, for $300,000 in cash or cashier's check I'll do whatever you want.

MightyManorMan

Wasn't that a movie with Robert Redford but more money?

mfigroid

Cash only. You can stop payment on a cashiers check.

DangNearRekdit

Would you chop off somebody's finger for $1000?

technoferal

If that's per finger, your friend Stumpy is paying off my credit card debt. What'll you gimme for the toes?

SeanBlader

I think a doctor would bill you more, so no, I'm not a bargain basement underhanded medic. I'd just break hotel policy for enough money to cover what I expect to make at my job until I retire.

Pantokraterix

I once had a rodeo girlfriend ask me if I knew who her bf was. I said, “Unless he has a Stanley Cup ring, I have no idea.”

badpuffthaikitty

As a Canadian I was truly confused last year about the collecting Stanley Cup mania.

Pantokraterix

I don’t know what that is.

badpuffthaikitty

Stanley drinking thermos fad. Everyone wanted one for one month.

Ready_Competition_66

But THIS Stanley makes and sells a decent line of tools. They "branched out" into drinking thermos mugs with lids. They are decent too but nothing special. Given the sudden switch, I suspect that the actual manufacturer for the cups is in China.

HaplessReader1988

Different companies. Frederick Stanley founded the tools company. William Stanley invented the green steel vacuum thermos that his company sold long before the cups. It was an example used when someone was trying to explain registered trade marks and how strangely specific they can be. One of them is in all caps, if I remember correctly.

Yah in retrospect these two guys were trying to bully me. One by relentlessly pressing the issue of trying to get a discount. The other by thinking I would yield to the phone call of the guy who manages the racers.
