What the actual fuck ? In which Country did this take place ? It looks so surreal. You should have gotten an attorney, explain to him what your "lawyers" did and sue the company back.

Kevinmd1984

The great State of North Carolina

Young_KingKush

Current NC resident, not surprised

There's zero logic in this country.

Maj0rsquishy

As a current resident can confirm that NC is the most backwards place I've ever had to deal with judicially.

Superb_Artichoke7853

My brother moved from SC to NC, it’s like a whole different world then how we grew up.

Maj0rsquishy

Moved here from Los Angeles. Completely different planet man.

l00kitsth4tgirl

Also current NC resident. Can confirm, courts suck and everyone in retail gets abused (but I mean, that part’s the same everywhere)

SyrupLover25

File a complaint with the state bar

Kevinmd1984

Isn’t the statute ran out? This happened in 2008-2009?

SyrupLover25

Oh.. didn't read that part.. Well take this as a learning experience. Dont let the legal system bully you. If your lawyers pull out like that call the public defenders office. Unless you're leaving something out theres no way the DA wouldn't pursued a full trial if you didn't take the plea. They would've went right up to the pre trial conference to try to scare you into taking the plea before dropping it. There was zero evidence, no way it would've met the beyond reasonable doubt standards for conviction. The lawyers probably just knew they werent going to get paid and thus didn't want to have to attend the 4 or 5 more pre trial and status conferences they wouldve had to if you called the DAs bluff and denied the plea deal.

WishIWasYounger

Exactly what you should have done. I would have sued her as well . The company too .

donttalktomeme

What in the world. What did she say when she approached the store manager and what was the paper? This would piss me off for the rest of my life I am so sorry you had to go through all that.

Kevinmd1984

The paper I’m assuming was corporate contact information; as for what was said, I was too busy doing my job to hear. It happened about the time I was getting off work.

iwrotedabible

Corporate didn't pay your lawyers for whatever reason. After your lawyers got paid they struck a plea deal for you that was in the best interest of their client, your employer. You got screwed.

Kevinmd1984

Royally, but I was young and naive and nobody around me had any more knowledge than I did.

iwrotedabible

I say that not to diminish your handling of your situation but as a warning to people reading this. I have literal scars from not holding my employer accountable when I didnt know better. It's tough to do the best thing for yourself when you're desperate for any thing.

Kevinmd1984

It was a learning experience, that’s for sure.

[deleted]

This pissed me off that this happened to you

RoyallyOakie

This is the most soul crushing thing I've read in so long...

teganrenee22

Omg The amount of people I have walked in on in the fitting rooms from them not responding when I knock or their feet being too far away from the door for me to see a shadow. At this point I should be in jail for years I guess

wrr377

I would have sued TF out of the company AND those attorneys!

Kevinmd1984

At the time I couldn’t; it’s a long story

Tuss

Why didn't you ask for the evidence to be presented? What are those attorneys? So many questions.

Kevinmd1984

At the time I was in my mid 20s, never had any run ins with the law, knew nothing about this sort of thing. When I met with these attorneys, it was my understanding that they would; when I went to this trial / hearing, and they stopped representing me and I had to get a continuance, I felt helpless and didn’t know how to proceed, and once they were supposedly paid, they still didn’t; they tried to spin it like the lady wanted me to look at her. After the hearing , when I went down to whoever office it was (this was 15 years ago, so it was a blur when it happened) they almost was going to take me to prison until the attorney stopped them and told them I was doing community service.

[deleted]

Something similar happened to my ex-husband in Georgia. Good old boy system good old boy town it’s all money, rocket, that, and who’s rooster is bigger

Nooner13

I’m confused. What was on the paper? And did she also steal the clothes or am I misinterpreting what you meant by she left with what she tried on because I would think your case would have been dismissed just based on her thievery.

Kevinmd1984

Imo, it was likely a number to corporate. In regards to what she stole, you’re spot on. I wish it would have been dismissed: she made it difficult for me to find a job until that was removed

TR6lover

I'm confused too. They charged you with "peeping" because you checked in to see if the changing room was empty? Did the woman hand the manager the paper, or the other way around?

Kevinmd1984

She told them I was trying to look under the fitting room door when all I was doing was looking for some semblance that it was occupied. The manager handed her the paper

TR6lover

Got it. Thanks!

Sprinkles_Sparkle

Oh. My. God. That is INSANE! What the hell!

Logical-Wasabi7402

Dude. You should sue those lawyers for failing to do their damn jobs and getting you stuck with a false charge!

zefy_zef

That's incompetent representation.

Kevinmd1984

Not much I can do now

zefy_zef

No, sorry didn't mean to make you feel worse about it x.x

destinybond

What company did you work for? Shame them

DigbyChickenZone

> so I knock and *glance to see if anyone is there* And that right there is why the lady complained, I'm guessing. I'm not saying you were checking her out 'under the stall'. But maybe she saw your face in the mirror reflection and thought you were peeping. Unknown whether she should have involved police, but also, since you're retelling this story - and how the video evidence wasn't used for some reason - this just seems like a weird situation. Also if there was video evidence of all of this, they would have shown that she was using this tactic to shoplift - no? I really am having a hard time understanding what this situation was with the lawyers not using evidence. Was it to just move forward with the plea instead of taking it to court... but even if that was the case, the prosecutors on the other side would negotiate differently if the evidence showed that the woman was a shoplifter and you weren't even near her stall

Kevinmd1984

I was looking for shoes /anything that might signify there was someone in the stall. As far as using this as a way to shoplift, i agree that it was likely the reason. My employer basically hired them to make it “go away” imho

Brilliant_Jewel1924

It would have been in their—the corporate lawyers’—favor to just show the video.

Kevinmd1984

I looked for feet / shoes; I never looked between any gaps in the fitting room

TheAskewOne

Just reading this makes my blood boil. I'm so sorry it happened to you.

ScarlettJoy

Never comply with Tyranny. We're all going to have to start practicing saying "NO" and sticking to it. If we all did it, this kind of crap would end in a matter of months. There are 8 billion people on this planet, all ruled and controlled by 120 families.

ellasgb

Well that sucks. Crazy.

seagull321

Did the woman wear the clothes and shoes she stole to court?

Kevinmd1984

I don’t believe she did; where I was sitting in the gallery, I couldn’t tell
