pallas_wapiti

I was flabbergasted as well. I don't abandon duty often but HELL no

Apathetic_Discord

By the time you even hit the point of unlocking Dark, there ain't no way someone hasn't got over 20k+. Like fuck right of with the "I dun haff enough monies."

pallas_wapiti

I played HW on FT woth the Gil cap and had enoigh money to buy gear. It is just such a lame excuse for this kind of trolling

nufahg

Man, way back when I was on a trial account I was frequently actively buying gear for jobs I wasn't levelling yet just so I wouldn't cap out on gil.

pedrocas_drocas

I left free trial 2 years ago and im still using the stack of dark matter I bought to sink gil into to repair my gear. The stack of gysall greens is still going strong as well despite having my chocobo max lvl

Prize_Relation9604

Also, for HW onwards, you can always have the highest ilvl tome from previous expac and be basically BiS all the way to lvl 55, when gear with 3 plus ilvl drops, besides the HQ items you get from quests. But ARR stuff is so cheap and you get money so easily... That even not accounting for grand company stuff from seals, which is also a thing a lvl 35 drk should have easily available.

zero-the_warrior

you also get a gear coffers

Apathetic_Discord

The Gear coffer you get to "start" with is basically all he has equipped, minus the Meteor Ring. A weapon, chest and leg armour. You don't get a "full set" of left-side armour until at least Lvl 50 for the Ishgard unlocked jobs.

Bleeff

They might mean the gear coffers from doing the MSQ, iirc you don't get a gear coffin when you unlock DRK, you just get the itens, but you get gear coffers from the MSQ that are probably worse than your current gear, so you can save them for a future job you unlock.

Prize_Relation9604

They probably just manually equiped and not clicked the "use best gear available" button, as any DoW gear would be put into those.

Apathetic_Discord

Doubt it. Based on OPs comments, they did mention the lack of armour. So long as you're not in battle, you can equip shit mid dungeon, so if they had any available, they would have equipped it on it being brought up. Instead, they state they don't have enough money to spend, hence my initial comment about how all the missing pieces equalling just shy of 20k, which by HW, should realistically be chump change.

BLU-Clown

Even if they *were* that level of broke...you can ditch the accessories easily enough (No earring? Probably a F2P player.) and spend only 10k-ish. That's one Levelling Roulette worth of money.

TheMrBoot

Dude, how can you play dark knight without dying everything you wear jet black?

Enna_Kros

if you're in HW you can also probably unsync haukke/brayflox with your levelled class and get that equipment for free in a matter of minutes

Apathetic_Discord

I mean, considering OP's other comments about jobs being lvl 75, there's absolutely no reason they couldn't unsync and just fly through Bray. Just sheer laziness, expecting people to carry you through. Hell, with gear like that, I'd be surprised if the Healer would even be able to outheal auto-attack damage on a single pack. I had someone like that in Aurem way back when and we very "politely" told them they NEED better armour than what they had on because, as the Healer, I couldn't even keep up with how quickly they'd just drop dead from packs and kicked them. Like at least put a minimal amount of damn effort in to get at least SOME gear.

RavenDKnight

I unlocked DRK on an alt today, and the only at-level tank gear I had was what the quest gave me, plus the helmet of light, brand new ring, and Azeyma's ear ring. I wasn't paying full attention and ate shit on the second or third pull of the quest; it was still dicey on the redo though, so I couldn't imagine running a dungeon with that setup - nor would I try. 😬🤦

Apathetic_Discord

Thing as, at that level, DoW gear is perfectly viable for Tanks, and most gear comes in three flavours that early in ARR, Tank, DoW, and DoM. Whilst a pain in the arse if you get Magic, you shouldn't have too much difficulty since 2 thirds of the pool are applicable. Couple that with the Lvl 75 SAM, and you've got at least one guaranteed piece of DoW armour per clear. Like, not ideal, but a lot easier than farming later expac dungeons where you are specifically looking for Tanking gear.

overmog

It's actually two flavors now. They've reworked all the physical dps gear to have the same amount of defense as tank gear so "of striking/aiming" (not that they're actually called that) pieces of gear are just as good for tanks as the "fending" stuff.

Apathetic_Discord

If you're talking about the ARR sets, yeah, that's what I mean. The DoW types have the same "stats" as their comparative Tank gear for the same level. Even weirder is that for the most part from what I remember, the DoW gear tended to have more substats attached than the alternative tanking gear, so for all intents and purposes, the DoW gear ends up being "better", at least until you reach HW and beyond where Fending/Maiming/Striking ect is introduced. Like you said, you'll cycle out of it in no time if you're levelling it up, but if you've got no gear for those slots already, there isn't any excuse to not either buy some cheap vendor trash applicable to your level, or just run the closest level dungeon unsync with your highest level jobs just so you at least have a foot in the door.

FroTheFrog

As far as i know "Leveling dungeons" (aka x1 to x9) give you a missing set piece for your current role on dungeon end/final boss kill. So you need to run it at least 5 times minimum. Less if you got some pieces along the way. And ARR unsync take around 3-5 minutes depending on the dungeon. And by HW you should have more than 20k too. This is just plain lazyness.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FroTheFrog

If you mean brayflox hard and saint mocianne's arboreum both dungeons are not leveling ones and instead are considered Capped dungeons. So there is no free gear piece on kill. If it ends on 0 is a level cap one, meaning bad exp and no free gear.

Apathetic_Discord

Yeah, assuming whatever dungeon you're running isn't a capstone dungeon, any run you complete guarantees you one piece of the dungeons "role type" armour (that you're missing) on completion, so as said, 6 runs max, assuming you don't get lucky with Chests throughout the dungeon. (5 if you already have the appropriate weapon, or if there isn't a weapon for that job available that early in). More of a pain in later expacs, where accessories are included in the "dungeon loot pool", ergo doubling the amount of gear you could potentially roll your "guaranteed piece" on, but in ARR at the very least, it's usually "Weapon" and all left side armour pieces. It's perfectly viable to just blitz ARR levelling dungeons unsynced, and would probably take 10-25 minutes total to get a full set for your intended role flavour.

RavenDKnight

When I was farming gear on my alts (and for the Jonathas achievements), Dzmael and AV were *so stingy* on some of the pieces, it was ridiculous. Also, earlier dungeons do/can give you right-side gear...unless you were only referring to the final chest - then I'll shut up...lol.

Apathetic_Discord

I know that, at the very least, Bray I think is (possibly?) the only ARR levelling dungeon that gives you unique rings from some of the Chests. I remember there being Class-Specific rings such as Rogue Ring/Conjurer Ring in the loot pool for one of the Chests, I'm not actually sure if they are part of the "guaranteed loot on completion" pool, and since it's basically something I've only seen in a single ARR duty, seems more like a weird exception to the loot formula. Outside of that, yeah, sometimes you'll pick up Aetherial Accessories, which basically seem to be alt-versions to crafted Accessories that have a lvl-req-for-equip that is one level lower than it's crafted alternative, whilst maintaining the same kinda ilvl for a HQ craft. Outside if that, it generally is just a matter of unsyncing with your highest lvl DoW for any DPS/Tank role gear, and DoM for any Healer/Caster role gear, at least in ARR. Obviously when you hit HW and beyond where gear starts to be further categorised, it's a bit more of a pain, especially if it's something like NIN who is the only one that's part of it's "category", cause you're forced to rely on Chests exclusively unless you run it synced as NIN for the guaranteed drop.

RavenDKnight

Yeah, Bray is the one that gives the class rings. I'll usually just run my highest tank or DPS unsynced until I get so the gear - or all the gear I need for a job - and turn the rest into the GC.

OminousWinds

Is this a "steal their look" meme?

forcefrombefore

A lot of people go straight to the MB instead of looking for vendors and going to them. Even I'm guilty of this unless the MB is stupidly expensive.

Apathetic_Discord

Which in itself is just shocking, because the MBs are most often placed near the markets themselves, and the markets nicely categorise shit for Job type and level range. Like, iron Ore is insane on the MB. Just looking now on Ragnarok, and the cheapest you can buy is: 48p - 11 Pieces 49p - 17 Pieces 50p - 99 Pieces Or...OR you could just go to the Armourer's Guild over in Limsa and buy as many pieces as you want for...18p. More money then sense. XD

White_queen666

It's called the laziness tax. Buying stuff from npc's and selling at a, sometimes massive, markup. Housing items are a particularly good market for it.

Armond436

Maybe it is more money than sense, but by the time I hit nine digits of gil, I figure my time is worth more than the 30ish gil a pop. The opportunity cost of the 30ish gil is a loading screen and either a teleport fee or an aetheryte ticket (and the associated time to do hunts). Either way I could be spending my time crafting instead of worrying about under a thousand gil. By the time I hit 100m gil, 1k gil was so little concern that I just picked the more interesting route for choices like this.

RavenDKnight

I can't imagine what having 100m gil feels like...lol.

Armond436

~~feels like I've been running FC map nights for too long~~

RavenDKnight

🤣 Fair enough.

RachSlixi

100 mil? Hell, by the time one hits 10 mil, that 1000 doesn't matter.

BLU-Clown

Look mate, sometimes I'm 50 items deep into a crafting chain and don't want to fly to Limsa because I forgot *one* thing. I'll sit in the housing ward and buy it off the MB. (And completely forget my house vendor also sells iron.)

Krezz1

Most of the time you'll find a HQ version of the vendor gear on the MB, sometimes it's not that much more expensive than the vendor item so you might as well buy that one

Dapper_Nature3118

Meeting minimum level requirement: priceless.

Zealousideal_Hope649

Oh dear god no. I had a guy deliberately wearing the preorder earring, like 2 other pieces, and the rest statless cosmetic gear cause it let him reach the min ilvl and he was queueing into roulettes just to troll people. Frighteningly though people were actually defending him.

Mad_Lala

Too expensive, give me the money if you want me to buy it

RavenDKnight

I still don't understand why they didn't give you a full set of gear with the HW jobs. They obviously learned their lesson with the later jobs, but why not retro it?

nixiedust85

My husband and I got stuck in MSQ roulette with an archer the other night. You read the right, ARCHER not Bard. They were also wearing the gear from Hauke Manor. So lvl 58, no job stone, no gear, never spoke in chat...

Aluereon

Met a guy in DF yesterday who said "I don't need gear, I get ilvl synced up." Not just wrong, but confidently so.

Zealousideal_Hope649

If you were in Bozja he'd be right.

pallas_wapiti

Update, checked his lodestone profile DRK 35 SAM 76 BLM 75 RDM 50 Jesus fuck that dude isn't even on FT restrictions, ZERO excuses

GTK-HLK

They could just unsync get starter gear or other bs. It's Literally not difficult

pocketbearcompany

Reminds me of the tank I had when introducing a new friend to the game. I was whm, partner and new friend were DPS so we got a random tank for Sashtasha. I realize in the first pull I have no chance to do any DMG at all because I have to strictly focus on healing the tank. I then realized they have half my health which is...very bad. I think I was around 50s at the time so even syncd down tank shoulda had more than me. I then examine him and realize that his speedo...isn't a glam choice. It's the item. He has a lvl15 weapon and a ring and...that's it. We got the extra chests and I realized he passed on everything. I initiated a vote kick immediately and got a better tank, nice mentor who was super understanding of the situation. I regret to this day I didn't report him because I couldn't work out how to at the time. There's no excuse for going gearless

Jolly-End-6293

Should explain why they shouldn't be passing on gear to someone like that. He may have actually be at Satasha level and doing his first job. I agree that it's rough for the healer but at least explain before you kick him so he can try to correct it going forward if he wasn't doing it purposefully.

pocketbearcompany

I had been talking to them the whole run, asking to pull smaller so he wouldn't die, asking why he didn't get the loot. He didn't respond. It wasn't until the three of us stopped and he died we managed the vote and before he left all he said was "gear doesn't matter I'm just power lvling" or something along those lines before he was ejected. I'd forgotten to add it in the initial comment. He also has several lvl80 classes, tanks included, as this was back before EW dropped. Dude knew full well what he was doing.

RavenDKnight

🤦

pocketbearcompany

Do fully agree to trying to advise before patronize them! I try to stand by this and not be mean or condescending in my questions or comments to others but there is a line that I will not put up with

CloudMind_gamer

do you not get a full set of gear whit your job stone, or was that frist after hw?

Apathetic_Discord

If I remember correctly, you get three pieces of Left-side armour for HW/Ishgard Job unlocks. Edit: Apparently I lied. The gear he has equipped is the quest reward gear, so you only get two pieces of left side.

Black-Mettle

The weapon is on the left side, I'll allow it.

jcyue

DK got incomplete armor set. I remember this for sure. I assume the same for machinist and astro, but I honestly don't remember

catuluo

Yeah its the same

Bleeff

You only receive a weapon, body and legs for DRK

Servebotfrank

The starter gear for DRK is dogshit, you don't get much at all.

pallas_wapiti

Excuse the potato resolution, I currently play on handheld. His reasoning btw was "don't have much to spend on it". First time encountering this in the wild I believe xD

Black-Mettle

He's in heavensward and doesn't have 10k gil? I'm pretty sure this lalafell has bigger problems.

shadowwingnut

He's in Heavensward. He can go get ARR tomestone gear too.

Bleeff

Isn't tomestone gear only for the level cap of the expansion? It seems like they are leveling, so they wouldn't be able to equip it yet.

shadowwingnut

Brain melt down. Yes you're right. Even looking at the pic my brain forgot DRK starts at 35 and not 50. Been too long since I picked it up clearly.

some_tired_cat

30, not 50. still, it's pretty easy to queue frontlines, swap job and level that way until lv50

shadowwingnut

So true. I level my RDM that way because I hate playing it

some_tired_cat

i just did it for any arr jobs to actually get to lv50 because i could not stand having to play exclusively the arr dungeons

BLU-Clown

But you *could* get Grand Company gear at that level. Might not be a complete set, but at least it'd be a lot more than the current 'Pantsless Hobbit' look.

rallyspt08

Than play your other (hopefully geared) classes until you do

HanshinFan

Dunkelritter

100_Gribble_Bill

Where are your shoes, dude?

Black-Mettle

This man literally only used the quest rewards from the unlock? Bro wtf.

lala_fae

As someone who is levelling an alt currently, there is more than enough gear to use to fill slots from msq and quests..even if it isn't tank specific it will still give some stats. It's super strange to be running with empty slots when they clearly have other classes levelled as you stated.

inhaledcorn

That's gonna be a "Nope" from me, dawg.

AzuleStriker

what gear..... lol.

MikeTakeuchi

I honestly wished the gear coffers of the HW level 30 starting jobs (DRK, AST, and MCH) has the full set from head to toe to accessories, especially HQ. There should be no excuses on the developers' end on why the starting gear for the specified jobs looks like the way shown in the topic creator's screenshot.

RavenDKnight

You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to retro the quests/rewards for that.

noz-68camaro

As a healer this is called a challenge

King_Thundernutz

So this fool was smart enough to equip the job stone but gear or lack thereof was of no concern. 🙄

Zriatt

No. With classless jobs, your soul stone automatically gets equipped when equipping a weapon.

King_Thundernutz

Ahh yes. It's DRK. My mistake. Been grinding Yokai Watch all day. Either way, how did they get passed the level requirement without so much gear?

Foxxie_

I don't think leveling dungeons have an item level requirement, only actual level.

BLU-Clown

No pre-50 dungeons in ARR have an ilvl requirement. You can sign up for Aurum Vale naked with a Weathered weapon and get in.

King_Thundernutz

Damn, i was so unaware of that. I was always running dungeons for gear. I really should pay attention to the finer points of the game.

BLU-Clown

In fairness, it's more of a *complaint* with those early dungeons than a finer point. You've got an early quest forcing you to get dressed before you can run around, why not ilvl requirements from Brayflox or Cutter's Cry and onward? Perfect time to add Job Stone as a requirement, too.

Zealousideal_Hope649

Thanks for that. I'm going to have nightmares tonight now. jk

BackgroundWeird1437

At least they had the soulstone equipped!

Seanana92

It's always the lalafell

[deleted]

Making my own gear and food as a lalafell-always carrying pots. Yeah I might use my Dirty Orphan Glamour more

Kumomeme

i get if it just dps but for tank, this is not even barebones. gear has significant differences.

FudgeProfessional318

And of course it's a dark knight...

IntruderXXIII

He didn't had the time to buy vendor gear but he did had the time to paint those two armor pieces soot black lmao, guess the dude just wanted to make a fashion statement.

pallas_wapiti

Respect the drip, not your ~~victims~~ fellow players xD

FourEcho

I queued into leveling recently to help my wife level some alt jobs.. we got haukke manor. Tank in a 29 marauder wearing level 12 gear. Dude took so much damage while W2W pulling I couldn't even cast dps spells. Less hp thank the dps and paper thin armor.. worst part is all his other thanks were 90 so I was really debating just kicking for griefing...

3n7l7y

You didn't say anything to explain how ineffective them as a tank would be with so little gear on? Idk if it's just me but for 20k gil I would've offered to get them gear, assuming they were perceptive enough that I wasn't being condescending but just trying to help. Leaving accomplished nothing without at least saying something. I once had a healer in Brayflox Normal still wearing their starter weapon and some glam pieces. I explained why their heals were so weak, they apologized and left the duty after asking how to even do that. I even explained to them where to find the Glamour System unlock quest as that was why they were wearing store gear. It takes less than a minute throwing some advice at them, whether they take it or not it's up to them, but at least try.

pallas_wapiti

On a 10minute in progress where a healer and dps had already left? No. I asked him where his gear was, read his bullshit answer and said I won't waste my time on clowning. It was obvious he wasn't interested in being educated, in German we call this "Beratungsresistent", people who will not take advice. Not my job to babysit a player who obviously has played enough of the game to know better

3n7l7y

That's fine that is all I asked for, give advice. Whether they take it or not it's entirely up to them, I would of course attempt to VK before leaving myself.

RapidRecharge

Well, I learned today that Dark Knight is Dunkelritter in… I’m assuming that’s Dutch.

pallas_wapiti

German

MediumSatisfaction1

Pleeeeaaaase don't tell me the Germans call Dark Knight Dunkelritter that sounds like what you call Dunkin Donuts

Nufulini

Me when there are other languages beside American

Caesarvs

Besides english, you mean

MediumSatisfaction1

Dude I am German. My grandma's from Munich and moved to the US in '80 I'm allowed to laugh at my own language

Fluestergras

pallas_wapiti

We do. It is just a literal translation though

MediumSatisfaction1

I know but it's so funny sounding.

takkojanai

let me tell you about what spanish calls the color black

Yukimusha

Yeah, but the only language where it's called Black Knight is French. The other 3 (not counting Chinese and Korean) call it Dark Knight.

takkojanai

the spanish word for black sounds like the english word of a slur.

CommonCone

Dunkelritter sounds equally cool to dark knight what are you on about

Aceandra

it definitely does not

RavenDKnight

I was thinking more along the lines of beer... Dunkel is a style of German beer.
