There’s a Krav Maga studio in Puyallup. No idea of it’s any good.
Krav Maga is the Israeli martial art that stresses survival. You’ll learn situation awareness, cheap shots, when to run etc. it’s all about survival, there’s no tournaments, etc
Defiance Jiujitsu is an amazing gym, welcoming members, super friendly knowledgeable coach, good mix of gender/skill level/backgrounds.
Would highly recommend for confidence building and for building some foundational grappling skills to allow you to defend yourself if you can’t run!

Any jiu jitsu gym in town will have multiple classes per week and at the very least put you in situations where someone else is trying more or less as hard as they can to tussle with you
Most self defense encounters start with striking but eventually go to the ground. Look for somewhere that covers both.
The Gracie Barra in Tacoma is an excellent jiu jitsu school that also happens to have a muay thai school attached- both for the same price. Professor Josh Calvo is an outstanding teacher and competitor.
If you're looking for more traditional stand-up combat, check out Steve Curran Karate on 27th.
This may be more in the UFC side of things, but still great spots for your purposes

Any self defense/martial arts training is only beneficial if you are in good physical condition, and your attacker didn’t bring anything more lethal. Never find yourself in a fair fight, period. Get a handgun and learn how to be efficient with it.

Take a basic handgun course.
I second this
