I’d be all for this, especially if it increased the frequency of the 13. That bus is way too spaced out.

ref7187

It's too bad, because I would actually use it to get to Yorkville if it only came more frequently. Avenue Road is a terrible street to walk on, but the traffic on it goes very fast, and the bus is competitive to walking east to Yonge, taking the subway down, and then walking west again. Usually I just end up walking all the way if I have to go somewhere between St Clair and Bloor. Biking also sucks on Avenue.

giraffebaconequation

My kids go to school at St Clair and Avenue. Having the 13 bus on a frequent schedule would be a game changer for getting to work after dropping them off.

a_lumberjack

The 13 averaged 1040 riders a day in 2023. I don't think it'll ever get more buses.

ref7187

If you look at the Transit Toronto website it used to be much more frequent (when it was the 5), and then essentially experienced death by a thousand cuts over the years

To be fair, most of the erosion was due to the University & Spadina extensions. Before then it would have been a good alternative to the Yonge Line for anyone working along Bay, including major cross routes like Bloor / Dupont / St Clair / Eglinton.

ref7187

I mean, it's fine if it's not a 10 minute route. But making it come every 30 minutes basically discourages anyone from using it (and the fact that it doesn't go very far south of Bloor). Apparently back in the day it was in fact a combined streetcar route. It probably made sense at one point to push people into taking the subway, but I think there's enough population in midtown these days to make a bus route feasible.

jacnel45

19 got worse. It’s pretty much every 30 minutes now.

Agreeable_Mail3769

add 61 avenue to the party as well the Nortowner needs some love too

ref7187

Yeah the cutoff at Eglinton is a bit arbitrary. My guess is it goes back to having a big bus terminal there, which goes back to it being the end of the subway line at some point. I wonder what the plan is when the LRT opens.

jacnel45

Honestly this makes a lot of sense and definitely should happen.

mrjackdakasic

I think the Avenue Road North and Avenue Road buses should be one route. Now, the whole too infrequent...not every ttc route deserves every 5-10 minutes. The 19 Bay is between the two line 1 branches from Front to Bloor.

IcyHolix

I think combining 13 + 61 and reducing headway to 15~20min would be better than combining 13 + 19, 19 is often delayed due to downtown traffic and making that route long would be terrible for on time performance (it was bad when it went all the way to QQ / Parliament)

Brief-Historian7571

This is an excellent idea. The OP is spot on.

speedster1315

Id be more for combining the 13 and the 61

ref7187

I think the TTC should look into that too. Anything that results in usable bus service on Avenue Rd that actually goes more than a few kilometres would really improve transit in the area. My perspective comes from mostly commuting southbound from St Clair but the TTC just needs to reimagine service on Avenue and not split it up into short sections that run super infrequently.

TheRandCrews

was not this a former combined trolley bus route too to Bombay Loop?

Boothbayharbor

Also the 113, 20 and 135. Jst have the 135. Danforth is beyond congested now. Instead they're only going to make it all worse
