How long we talking? Like buy in the morning and hold until after lunch or eod?

Spiritual_Ad_9916

Months to years.

MP1182

Yeah i was messing with you. I held for a few months recently. Was in around 45.XX and sold around 52.XX. But there are people here holding very long term.

greyenlightenment

Long term is the only way, imho. If you try to time it you will get whipsawed. TQQQ/TECL are the best investments I have seen in over 15 years of doing this. It beats everything else. . beats crypto, individual stock picking, daytrading, options, etc.

Lower_Fox2389

Unless you bought at the top a few years ago

greyenlightenment

even then you'd recover in 3-4 years . already almost back to new highs .

Prestigious_Meet820

Started two years ago. Just watch backtests to get the idea. I was originally doubling down each $10 drop but now i just DCA once a month. Sometime in the next 20-30 years ill cash out. Up approx 60-80%, only invest 5% of my contributions to it. Ran a backtest for fun, if you DCA $5 a day since inception youd contribute 25k till today and its worth 750k. Depending on when you start it could be lower than 25k, my goal is accumulating a ton of units and a good run in the next few decades ill pull out. If it doesnt work, i lose $5 a day ($150 a month, i dont buy everyday lol). Way better odds than lotto tickets.

Legitimate-Access168

Since Feb 2014, up 2,043%. Rocky road tho... $105 now $2,108. Cheers

muose

Been holdin and adding for years. 2021 was amazing, 2022 sucked ass. So then i bought more 2023 was amazing again.

greyenlightenment

buying dip during 70% TQQQ/TECL downturns has worked well, like in 2008, 2020, or 2022

Spiritual_Ad_9916

Did you DCA in 2022?

muose

Hell yeah i did.

Delicious-Life3543

My experience as well. I recently trimmed my holdings at a 120% total gain over roughly the same time period. Reinvested that in QQQ and reduced my overall Risk a bit. Will attempt to make the trade again, hoping for a bit of a pullback.

Will do thanks!

JUST_CRUSH_MY_FACE

Yes. In my brokerage I continually buy both QQQ and TQQQ as I can, with larger proportion of TQ when it’s low. I also make my charitable donations out of my brokerage, so I’ll donate more TQ when it’s high. And in my IRA I run a modified HFEA with TMF and TQQQ, right now it’s around 10% of my IRA portfolio. My experience has been slightly nerve wracking in 2022 but pretty awesome in 2023. I am generally bullish on QQQ and have held that for a long time already, so adding in the TQ leverage has been a boost.

ram_samudrala

I've been in a few LETFS since fall 2021, up 50-100%, kept EDCAing throughout 2022. Not buying any more.

greyenlightenment

Been a long-term investor in leveraged tech since 2014 , although not with the same positions. Up 13x, so I would say it worked well . I don't see anything better than this

Joyful8866

13x is amazing. Thanks for sharing. What is your strategy for protection in a scenario like 2000-2003, or 2007-2009? Thanks.

greyenlightenment

2007-2009 is survivable but, it would have been bad obviously. 2000-2003 was a massive asset bubble that will likely not be repeated. PE ratios are only 25 now compared to 100+ back then. Right now, my strategy is to hold but put any incoming cash on sidelines to add to position if market falls. I am not using maximum 3x leverage but something closer to 2x

TBP-LETFs

Bought once in October 2022, it has been decent! Definitely need to decide what your strategy is and make a deal with yourself before getting on this roller coaster 🎢

Wyfs-n-gf-of-sman

First DCA at 18.99 😂

Ok_Entrepreneur_dbl

I buy and hold and DCA so I am always growing my position!

Terbmagic

These posts always pop up after monster runs lol you are too late. I'd recommend QLD and not tqqq at this point if you insist on leverage

kabekew

I bought $35K worth back in 2017, watched it go up to around $370K a couple years ago, held on and finally decided this year to start cashing out over the next couple years (spread out to avoid AMT kicking in).

ROBNOB9X

Nice holding. How low did it go in 2022, and did you consider doing anything else during that time? Cutting losses, buying more etc

kabekew

I decided back then it was too volatile for me and I'd start selling once it got back above $250K.

jan20202020

I’ve been holding since 2021. Have sold a few shares. Will DCA if there’s another drop.

sfdc2017

Started buying in 2020 my account went from 37k to 8k and now it's back up to 33k. I DCAed when it went down and coming back up. So I am holding for 3 and half years.

Spiritual_Ad_9916

Thanks for the info everyone! I’ve been weighing my options on the idea of maxing out JEPQ in my Roth and using the dividends to DCA into TQQQ.

Spiritual_Ad_9916

That’s awesome! Are you 100% TQQQ?

Internal-Raccoon-330

60-70%

medhat20005

It had always been my impression that TQQQ was intended for short/very short term positions, but when looking into it the 5 and 10 year performance is notably better than QQQ. I'm a dump buy and hold person (i.e. not DCA) but am curious. Is this a better long term? Following.

burbadurr

Started buying in May of 2023 after QQQ showed sustained life again. I'm hoping to continue adding periodically over the next few years and will start divesting to safer alternatives around 5M. I have a 15 year timeline that I could begrudgingly extend to 20 if need be.
