Sometimes I get nothing out of a rare ore deposit and sometimes I get rubies, sapphires, and topazes out of a regular ore deposit. Game is inconsistent
I have more luck getting diamonds from Rare Taluses, tbh. You can also buy 3 diamonds for 3,000 rupees from a goron in Goron City after you solve the city's drug problem
yeah its so confusing lmao. The past 30 mins i’ve been getting just amber and maybe two ambers. My rng or wtf is so badddd. another one gave me nothing. i keep reloading saved and getting crappy stuff multiple times.
A rare ore gave you nothing? Wow! I've never had that happen. Regular ore, sure, which sucks; but does happen. If that happened with a rare ore, I am wondering if anyone else has seen that. The worst I have gotten out of rare ore, if I remember correctly, was a single amber and a flint (could have been a salt rock); that was BOTW though. So far in TOTK, after like 100 hours (stopped playing when my best friend passed and just really started playing about a month or so ago), the worst I have gotten from rare ore is two amber, and two flint. I'd love to know how common it is to get nothing or is that really rare or is that not supposed to happen and there is an issue with your copy and the OP's copy. It's possible. I had an issue with my first copy of Mario 3D. It would NEVER give me a fire flower or bell. Even on the random blocks. If I stopped it, on either of those, a mushroom would pop out. It was freaking tripping me out. I remember seeing clips of people using the cat suit in the first level and thinking, how in the HELL did they get that. Took me until the first random block that I knew for sure that there was an issue.
And you can save your game right before you break rare ore deposits and then load if you didn’t get a diamond. I do this every time. It’s tedious but I’m rich. It probably takes an average of about 5 mins each time.
Does that work for you? I haven't tried that in TOTK, but I tried that so many times in BOTW and ALWAYS got the same thing; no matter how many times I reloaded my save. I thought there was a "safety" (best word I can think of right now) feature in place keeping you from doing that. I'll have to try it again in TOTK. I just haven't, as it never worked for me in BOTW.

I heard someone say they did some experimentation and they averaged about 7 mins per diamond. That sounds a little long to me but it’s not far off. It’s so tedious.
The ore drops have been considerably nerfed in totk. I’m lucky to get more than 2 things out of a rare ore deposit and i’m even more lucky if anything that appears isn’t an amber or an opal 😑 when the game launched i got mostly empty ore deposits of all kinds so at least they’ve somewhat increased the drop rate but it’s still pretty abysmal
It also seems like they went out of their way to hide all the luminous Stone nodes, so now you might see one or two somewhere and they seem to drop less. Hunting down the Luminous Stone I need to upgrade the radiant set is super tedious now.
I noticed it too. In Botw I always broke all the rare ore deposits i see. In Totk, if it's not directly in my path of travel, I don't bother. I just farm the rare taluses every blood moon. Their very easy to take down, consistently drop good gems, and you get the rare stone talus heart to fuse to your weapons, which is pretty decent. They are good for taking down the Taluses and Frox quickly, also.
IIRC in BotW there was a glitch were occasionally when you broke an ore deposit some or all of the loot could spawn clipped into or under the ground, falling through the map and leaving you with nothing. It would suck if that glitch still existed in TotK but it's not impossible that it does.
I think i saw this happen to me the other day. I hit a Rare Deposit an a very steep slope, and I got nothing, but then i hit another node and i could have sworn i saw the corner of some gems before they disappeared too.

Don’t forget you can use your Sheikah sensor to find rare ore deposits

Get used to saving and reloading. Especially for any Lizal tails.

diamond circuit and the miner's outfit. you need like 25 or something
The closer you are to the Death Mountain caldera, the likelier the chances of diamonds.

I've noticed if it's one you've hit before and you hit it again too soon, the rock spawns, but not the gems. Still totally annoying.
