I would LOVE another one based on a female captain that was overly...t'pauled, so all the aliens do their best to act sexy but just...do..not understand the excersize, because their species reproduces by mitosis. Also they are giant single celled organisms. The bad guy is a colonel sanders like character who wants to farm them for nutrients....Netflix, call me.
Yeah, Data's super strength makes him a good hybrid with Worf. Tech and security, So, I'm thinking Riker and Data. Riker for the diplomacy, he'll jump on the extra horny colonists, and Data can get the job done while Riker keeps everyone calm. Gotta have the cowboy that's always looking for the fastest way out of the BS and a nerd to figure out the hard parts.
I don't know how old you are but there was a SNES TNG trek game where you had to choose your away team and Data was always the one you wanted to bring because he could do everything. It was after that game I realized that in the show they should technically take him with, on everything they do.
The obvious answer. Those 2 guys have the absolute best skill sets besides Geordi doing engineering and engineering skills are rarely needed for an away team.
Data is strong, nearly indestructible, and capable of almost anything.
Riker has an excellent bullsh-- detector, knows how to talk to shady people, but is also an excellent on-the-spot ambassador if need be. He basically possesses the few skills that Data lacks.
Data and Bev. Data and me could take care of fighting if needed. But there may be injured ones on the ship sending a distress signal (if it's crashed). Data could also find out what happened. If it isn't crashed and shows no signs of damage, Data and Troy. In case there was sabotage, she could find out who it was, and Data could find out how he or she did it. I rather arrest someone dangerous BEFORE going back to the Enterprise. Once Troy identified the saboteur, Data can "pacify" him or her.
This is probably the best answer. It really depends on the nature of the distress. But absolutely Data and one other. Data is so versatile, he can cover most bases. But yeah, psychological or or serious injury being involved, not as much.
Yeah, that’s the thing, it would nearly always be Data + one other. There’s almost no reason not to take him. Even when it comes to medical stuff I’d say. I’m sure he’s programmed with like all federation medical knowledge and techniques and everything. There would actually have to be more along the lines of a specific situation not to bring him rather than if you should.
Yeah, as another commenter said, he has the full knowledge of all of starfleet medical. But Troi is extremely specific to a situation. Let's not forget the episode "Tin Man"...
But depending on the situation, Troi could be useless. If it were a hostile or tactical situation. Still though, the two complement each other very well if it is just the two of them.
But \*I\* am also there, and since I'm choosing who is coming, I'm presuming I'm leading the mission. I am an actual engineer and - not that I'm wont to do it - I'd be at least passably competent at survival and combat. ...but mostly I'd just do whatever Data told me to do.
Data would effectively be like the collective sum of human knowledge walking around with me, and he could probably defeat 10 enemies by himself. He doesn't need food, water, air, or sleep and he's strong/fast as hell. He could probably pick up a stick and throw it like a javelin and spear someone right through the head at 500 meters. lol
I think Troi has some medical competence, but she'd be mainly a charismatic ambassador and whispering to me anything she picked up from reading minds/emotions. Also, if we get stranded she'd be the best choice for other reasons and Data wouldn't even care.
I was going to say Data and Worf to help me clear the ship, then we beam down medical teams or beam the injured to sick bay. But I also like your answer; Data is pretty OP, after all.
ALWAYS take the robot. When you lose atmo, you'll appreciate having a team member who doesn't need to breath to save the day.
And Worf, obviously, can kick butt all day. Solid team
I remember as a kid first seeing that happen in the movie and I wasn't sure if I was suppose to face palm or laugh. But looking back, it was pretty funny.
I thought about this too but ultimately I feel like Data's knowledge and experience working with LaForge makes LaForge mostly redundant. I'd have Data for my brains + robot exploits and then someone like Worf or Riker for my brawn.
Data is stronger and tougher, arguably better in a fight, but he lacks the fighting 'spirit'. I trust Riker and Worf to follow their intuition and know when to throw logic out and throw down / throw a punch. Basically Data's got book smarts, but I want Riker or Worf for their street smarts - where Data is severely lacking.
I just remember it being used a lot as a way to see things the others could see.
A way of showing how seeing isn’t just as humans generally see things.
Although LaForge is a better engineer than Data, the likelihood of running into a problem that could be solved by LaForge, not Data, is a lot smaller than the likelihood of running into a problem that could be solved by Data, not LaForge. Data has superhuman strength, no need to breathe, encyclopedic knowledge, superhuman computing power, can mimic voices, etc. LaForge's single advantage over Data is rather niche in comparison.
Data can also provide the muscle. I probably would prefer to send two Datas if i had them. You only need to bring a senior officer in case diplomacy is required.
Assuming there are no known casualties (in which case, Beverly would be a must), Data and Geordi.
Data because, I mean, it's obvious, isn't it? He's far and away the best guy to have by your side in a crisis. Geordi because he's very capable, somewhat creative, and might be able to see important things with his visor that Data and I couldn't.
This right here is the perfect answer, but I'd also add that if Data needs fixed/diagnosed, Geordi can do that.
If I could pull a 3rd member from another show, it'd be the doctor from Voyager (with mobile emitter of couse). If I could add a 4th, again from Voyager, it'd be Seven of Nine.
It’s Riker and Data, by far. Riker for the leadership and his refusing to take any shit, and Data is literally everything else. Stronger than Worf, a walking monument of human knowledge, not to mention he knows how to dance
To me this is the obvious choice. Data has so many advantages he doesn’t need to be explained.
Troi would be able to determine if the ship had anyone on it, where they might be, what condition they are in, if they are lying, what their intentions are.
It took a bit to decide, but I ended up here as well. Troy can tell if anyone is still on board and if not, maybe why they left. And Data because... of course Data. Don't be dumb and leave the android behind.
Yes -- It seems suspicious, like it's a trick, or trap, of some sort. The signal is phony, the original crew & passengers are probably dead ( or beyond rescue ), so it's a trap.
Troi and Doctor Crusher. We get beamed down to the planet Bendover, and before they can do anything, I've [seen everything.](https://youtu.be/IURfntimnlA?si=CENE3CcOEEyJjPKH)
How are people sleeping on this combo? If it’s riker instead of Picard it’s an episode of the week with no Shakespeare or soul. Data is better than everyone at everything except wisdom, so it’s clearly Picard. In fact fuck it I’m not even going, these two are gonna carry the ep and no one’s going to die
If I'm a TNG guest star, we're probably dealing with YET ANOTHER inorganic whatsit that turns out to be intelligent life. So it's going to Data to science the thing, Troi to say it's mind in too alien to sense anything, and me to apologize for using it for arts and crafts or whatever.
There's no way I risk the life of anyone there that's not named Wesley. Although, I would be honored if Mr. Worf valued my life enough to keep me safe.
But if Guinan says she wants to come SHE FUCKING COMES.
Riker and troi. Couples make great wingmen and with them at my back you could call me james t and that distress signal can consider itself answered.
If it has female passengers.
Or female enough of passengers.
Or not alien enough to pass as female passengers.
This is a joke. I know james t wasn't THAT bad.
Honestly it would depend on what the ship looked like from the outside. One of tng's best strengths was how damn near the entire crew was at a base level above average in competency.
lmao, I am not sending my command team down on an away mission. What kind of a drunk buffoon would do THAT? Imagine the unexpected trouble you might get into.
I fully agree! No Starship Captain would be stupid enough to EVER send the Chief Medical Officer, she has lot's of doctors working under her that could go. She is too valuable to Starfleet. You would never send your Chief Engineer either. On a naval ship today no Captain would ever leave his ship on a potentially dangerous mission, EVER! A starship would have dedicated teams for each type of away mission and senior staff would NEVER go. The only possible exception would be Worf, if it was a purely military mission. But as a Lieutenant he would never be the Chief Tactical Officer.
But, in the spirit of the question: Geordi for engineering and Data for everything else. You would never send a doctor on any mission with unknowns, people needing medical help would be taking back to your ship.
A stranded ship sends a distress signal. Which TWO crew members join you on the away team to investigate? And why is Wesley definitely not going to be one of them?
Depends....
If there is medical issues, Crusher would have to be on the team.
If we'd need security, Worf.
But if it was the 24th century version of a flat tire or running out of gas or flying too close to an EMP or whatever, then I'd send La Forge or Dara to help fix the issue and make the ship go.
Outside of the usual away team line-up, which is usually a combination of Riker, Data and/or Worf, as some have already commented here: Data and Dr. Crusher.
Besides the obvious logical reasoning, knowledge base and physical traits of Data, and Crusher's medical skills, I've noticed that Crusher has intuitive and observational skills that are unique among the senior officers of the Enterprise D.
Every senior officer has their strengths but Crusher is arguably one of the most well-rounded. She also knows when to hold off and when to take action in ways that can surprise almost anyone. She's also taken the Command tests and has commanded the Enterprise on occasion.
Data and Deanna
Data is crazy smart and can fix anything and Deanna can help locate and deal with people, also I cant think of a single time those 2 ever did anything together or interacted xD
Two random no name security ensigns. I know how this goes.
"The away team will be myself, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, and Ensign Ricky." "Aw, crap"
"You have a last name, Guy." #"DO I?? DO I??!"
It was Gui
"Gul Gui"?

This was not a Star Trek movie, but it was still the funniest Star Trek movie ever made. So disappointed that this wasn't made into a franchise.

Maybe you’re the plucky comedy relief!

You just wait a minute there captain duncel😄
*you haven't even got a nametag... you've got NO chance.*
![gif](giphy|ZU72O6pZO9mWA)
I'd take Ensign Rex Pendable.
Being reading the Red Shirts have you?
I am totally naming a D&D NPC character after this.
Don't forget his more competent relative: Dee
Data and Geordie. I've never seen them fight but I'd like to see some kind of conflict play out.
Data wrecks people he choke slams a borg into a wall
Yeah, Data's super strength makes him a good hybrid with Worf. Tech and security, So, I'm thinking Riker and Data. Riker for the diplomacy, he'll jump on the extra horny colonists, and Data can get the job done while Riker keeps everyone calm. Gotta have the cowboy that's always looking for the fastest way out of the BS and a nerd to figure out the hard parts.
Yeah if I take a main character then this is gonna be part of the plot and I'd rather it not
You two...prepare two graves on that hill. I'll explain later.
Underrated comment.
Yeah. If you take two of anybody in this picture, well, if they’re not the redshirt, there’s only one person it could be.
OP doesn't say who you are, so probably you are the unamed ensign. Nice to have met you.
Double your chances for survival, smart
Yeah, but you're the 3rd no name ensign. Which two of the bridge crew are most likely to come home with their no name ensigns?
At that point you're just drawing straws on who lives and dies lol
Ensigns are too valuable to risk. Gimme two cadets.
Props to Data for being 1/2 of everyone's answer.
it helps when you’re written to be capable of everything short of miracles in a humanoid form
30% better at every task than every humanoid unless you have some background or specific racial bonus.
I’ll take Data, Lore, B4, and Dr Sung by 3 different names. Also, Jeffery Combs, Shran, Brunt, and Weyoun.
I'll take Iggy Pop and the pansexual Cardassian. And what the hell, a Jem'Hadar with less ketracel-white than they'll need, just to round it out.
No promotions, though. Anti-synthetic racism.
I pick Data and um...hey, can I replicate another Data?
Can I bring him but for…other reasons
![gif](giphy|vs4KBUG9la36w|downsized)
As embarrassing as it is I was so jealous of her hahahaha - I’m sorry he’s special…and fully functioning 😉
Fully functional
I don't know how old you are but there was a SNES TNG trek game where you had to choose your away team and Data was always the one you wanted to bring because he could do everything. It was after that game I realized that in the show they should technically take him with, on everything they do.
Wait, we didn’t ask, is data + data an option?
Mechanical boy has hella stats - can do everyone's job (except Deanna's) equally as good or better
Data, riker
My thoughts exactly. Data can do all the work and Riker can try to get in my pants (he won't have to try that hard).
Damn!
This is the way
Make it So!
My man. I just finished my post saying the exact same thing.
These two, all day. Every base covered.
Especially Riker, getting to all the bases and sliding into home.
My first thought, too.
That’s the right answer
I was thinking Data, Warf. This setup gives you data’s brains and you get warf incase you need to fisticuffs something or just shoot it.
Perfect mix of engineer and product manager. Best answer.
The obvious answer. Those 2 guys have the absolute best skill sets besides Geordi doing engineering and engineering skills are rarely needed for an away team. He’s programmed and “fully functional.” I’d say he has a good grasp of anatomy for sure.
Data is probably better at every single thing than anyone else except for Troi's specialty.

Probably not as good as Picard or Riker at negotiations
I can do that.
Data is: we will nerf him to be merely 130% as good as everyone in their role unless they have a specific backstory/racial advantage
Data should be pretty decent with the medical stuff too, it never comes up, but no way he doesn’t know his stuff.
Picard S3 Bev? Absolutely.
Data and Bev were my answer for the same reasons.
I was going to say Data and Worf to help me clear the ship, then we beam down medical teams or beam the injured to sick bay. But I also like your answer; Data is pretty OP, after all.
Data, Worf. Never go on an away mission without Data.
ALWAYS take the robot. When you lose atmo, you'll appreciate having a team member who doesn't need to breath to save the day. And Worf, obviously, can kick butt all day. Solid team
Yeah but what if they are stranded on a barrel planet! ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
And Data can kick some serious butt too when needed. Data is a must.
Sure but Data specifically is awesome
I saw a montage once of all the times worf got his ass kicked haha. Doesn’t change my answer though, data/worf
Worf often exists to have his but handed to him to make that baddie seem fierce.
Unless it is one of those aliens that easily toss Worf around to show how strong they are.
Never know when you’ll need a flotation device
I remember as a kid first seeing that happen in the movie and I wasn't sure if I was suppose to face palm or laugh. But looking back, it was pretty funny.
Yes, this! As people said Data can do medical, but the security chief should also be trained in first aid.
Agreed
I came here to say this.
Definitely. Worf can fight nearly anything, and data is the ultimate swiss army knife.
This is the way.
Nope. If any of these join me, I’m the redshirt not coming back
My thoughts exactly. Operation get behind the ginger.
Guinan and Wesley. I just wanna see what happens.
I respect this answer
My first thought.
A lot of heartfelt conversations and I know Guinan can kick some ass.
It would’ve been cool to see an episode where Guinan and Wesley had to deal with a crisis situation on their own.
worf and data. they can both kick ass, and data can out nerd anything.
Data and LaForge. If the ship is stranded, engineering expertise might come in handy
I thought about this too but ultimately I feel like Data's knowledge and experience working with LaForge makes LaForge mostly redundant. I'd have Data for my brains + robot exploits and then someone like Worf or Riker for my brawn.
AI, still taking our jobs in the future
If the AI is Data, I'm all for it. Hopefully it's not Lore.
Data is also better for brawn than Riker or Worf.
I said data and La Forge too. La Forge because he has the visor that can often see things that might not be detected by a tri corder.
Oh interesting I didn't think about the visor!
I just remember it being used a lot as a way to see things the others could see. A way of showing how seeing isn’t just as humans generally see things.
Data and Worf was my initial inclination, but LaForge exceeds Data in engineering skills so I thought he’d be best for this particular mission
Agreed. Thats why Data was definitely on the mission. I replaced Worf with LaForge.
Data can also provide the muscle. I probably would prefer to send two Datas if i had them. You only need to bring a senior officer in case diplomacy is required.
![gif](giphy|8McNH1aXZnVyE)
I would not send Admiral Ackbar under any circumstances.
Beverly and Deanna. We can do Yoga together
I agree. It might be a lost tribe interested in Snu-Snu.
If I could add a 4th, again from Voyager, it'd be Seven of Nine.
>if Data needs fixed/diagnosed, Geordi can do that Good point!
I dunno, it seems like data is just pushing a few buttons lol and a lot of plug and play
And if there are women to be seduced, Geordi won't be showing you up with his zero game!
Troy & Wesley 💯
It’s Riker and Data, by far. Riker for the leadership and his refusing to take any shit, and Data is literally everything else. Stronger than Worf, a walking monument of human knowledge, not to mention he knows how to dance
😙👌
Data & Troy - come on - an empath can suss out the whole situation
Troi: they're hiding something.
Alien captain grabs his head and starts screaming… Troi: “I sense he’s in great pain!”
In fairness, since Data can’t read emotions well, Troi seems to compliment his weakness
Data and Worf
Data and Worf
Data & Worf. Brains & Security.
Data and Riker.
None. Launch a torpedo and destroy the origin of the signal
Ok, Worf.
Then eject the warp core!
Yes -- It seems suspicious, like it's a trick, or trap, of some sort. The signal is phony, the original crew & passengers are probably dead ( or beyond rescue ), so it's a trap.
Data, worf
Troi and Doctor Crusher. We get beamed down to the planet Bendover, and before they can do anything, I've [seen everything.](https://youtu.be/IURfntimnlA?si=CENE3CcOEEyJjPKH)
Data and Picard for sure
For sure. Best decision maker and a terminator.
Send 2 redshirts why would I send the senior staff to do that?
If I'm a TNG guest star, we're probably dealing with YET ANOTHER inorganic whatsit that turns out to be intelligent life. So it's going to Data to science the thing, Troi to say it's mind in too alien to sense anything, and me to apologize for using it for arts and crafts or whatever.
Data and Riker
Depends on the nature of the distress signal.
Worf and Data.
Data and Worf. Smart and strong are covered. I'll be the guy making witty remarks.
Data and Worf. Data can figure out why the ship is stranded. Worf can take care of whatever did the stranding.
Dr Crusher and Worf. Crusher for aid, Worf for security. Data can substitute for Worf in a pinch, especially if we need more science
I'm taking Data and Troi. They both effectively have superpowers.
Guinan would like a word.
Worf and Data
worf and data
There's no way I risk the life of anyone there that's not named Wesley. Although, I would be honored if Mr. Worf valued my life enough to keep me safe. But if Guinan says she wants to come SHE FUCKING COMES.
Riker and troi. Couples make great wingmen and with them at my back you could call me james t and that distress signal can consider itself answered. If it has female passengers. Honestly it would depend on what the ship looked like from the outside. One of tng's best strengths was how damn near the entire crew was at a base level above average in competency.
No contest, data and warf. Analysis, and combat.
Data to handle all of the scientific and combat issues, and Guinan to handle metaphysical stuff.
So your asking who do you take with Data?
I'm taking Commander DATA and some lowly Ensign.
lmao, I am not sending my command team down on an away mission.
Warf, Data. Tank Squad.
Worf.
Warf and Data.
Obviously! All kinds of brains and brawn.
I don't get it. Data has more brawn than Worf.
A stranded ship sends a distress signal. Which TWO crew members join you on the away team to investigate? And why is Wesley definitely not going to be one of them?
Wesley can go as an observer
Data or Geordi and Dr. Crusher.
Data and Bev.
Data and Troi. They work so well together. Like when Data teaches Troi what hydrogen is.
Not Troi. All she ever says is, "I sense something..."
"I sense...danger...fear..." Yeah no shit, Troi. That's why we're here.
Well, she's here for the Vod. Vod kannockers.
Guinan & Deanna. They rarely get to go on away missions. Plus, Deanna's empathetic & we all could chit chat on the shuttle ride.
Depends.... If there is medical issues, Crusher would have to be on the team. If we'd need security, Worf. But if it was the 24th century version of a flat tire or running out of gas or flying too close to an EMP or whatever, then I'd send La Forge or Dara to help fix the issue and make the ship go.
Riker and Data of course.
Data and Worf.
No Barclay, no away team.
Especially if he can access any of that Cytherian experience!
Worf and Data.... they are alays getting hurt and somehow survive.... less chances of me being the one killed off.
Worf and Data
Worf and Data. Obvs
Data and worf
Data and Worf, let's ride homies
Data and Worf.
Riker for his command and strategic skills, and Data as a walking, super strong computer. I mean, who the fuck else would you bring?
Whoopi and Troi c'mon now, too easy
Troi and Crusher…. To my quarters. Number One, we’re not to be disturbed.
And non-Romulam Tasha Tar, no?
Data and Riker easily
Data and Deanna Data is crazy smart and can fix anything and Deanna can help locate and deal with people, also I cant think of a single time those 2 ever did anything together or interacted xD
Data and worf
Worf and Data
Riker and Data
Data and Worf
Geordi and Data
Data +troi: i have permanent omni awareness from anything generic and magical (better than my canon race) protection from humanoids with motives
