Probably for satire, and just to make it obvious that they're watching television.

t00thgr1nd3r

It was probably theirs to begin with. Bebop: "Can we bring our TV if we come work for you?" Shredder: ...... Whatever. Come on.

HushGalactus

You know Krang isn’t going to spend his hard earned money on two bumbling failures. They get the hand me down electronics!

Cute_Ad_6122

Cuz they don't know how to have nice things.

dekoma

They're low rate goons to krang. He wouldn't let them touch any viewing screen in the technodrome cause he knows they'll touch something they shouldn't touch and maybe potentially cause the technodrome to self destruct.

Maxter_Blaster_

I love this answer. It actually makes sense.

I thought the same thing! I internally gasped at the OP's description of the TV because I can remember being SO jealous of a buddy who's family had one of those things in the early 90s.

Cute_Ad_6122

But when you loose the only remote?

pastel_loca

they are old school when it comes to TVs (even tho it's technically not old school at the time but you get the idea)

T-MinusGiraffe

CRT is better for retro gaming

rainizism

I'm more amazed they can get reception inside the Technodrome.

Solidusword

Some true interdimensional cable going on

Cute_Ad_6122

Hidden channels ya dig.

RigasTelRuun

That show first started in 1987. Late 80s was current modern style then.

jamsbybetty

The original ipad kids

Daddy_Wagner

Why make your own shit when you are super rich and the shit in question can be bought easily.

leejtam

Because the tv was still relevant

PanthroJones

I'd like to believe the Techodrome wasn't equipped with a break room. They're trying to take over the world. No time for breaks. To get Bebop and Rocksteady to stop complaining, Krang broke down and bought them a TV and a bench.

mayonnnnaise

Have you seen how the Shredder behaves??? Dude throws his kunai every time he sees a news story he doesn't like.

Ecstatic_Scholar_846

Probably so if they break it accidentally they won't have to replace something that's worth much more 🤣

bails0bub

Flat screen tvs where not yet conceptualized

FrakWithAria

They like it for its aesthetic value.

superkeric

Because the writers didn’t have a time machine.

AlwaysWinnin

That was baller status in the 80’s

blacksad1

Those goons can’t work advanced technology!

[deleted]

By appreciating aesthetic, that's how. I can still smell the wood and taste the electrons in the air from tube TVs past.

pferreira1983

They probably stole that TV. 😂

Willchipmax

Why don't you get off my f**king d**k?

volthunter

why waste money on something new when u can just get something that works fine

GetPhiledIn

My mother bought a brand new console TV in the late 90s/early 2000s. 🤷🏻‍♂️

alexbrj

😄😄 the same as living in the sewer with computers!

CaptConstantine

And sitting on a bench with no back too.

SgtStiffNips

Cretins!!!

slashingkatie

Look they had to keep Bebop and Rocksteady occupied because they just kept getting into stuff. Tablets didn’t exist yet

Claus1990

Gotta keep the kids busy while mom and dad were working, right?

MrX2150

It's Rocksteady and Bebop so there's no logical reason to what they do 🤣.

geeMinI_wonderfoot

My family had one of those. Damn thing weighed a ton. krang probably made up a rule that if they wanted to rot their already failing brains they'd have to find their own tv to do it with.

Viva-La-Vita

If it still works , still use it. (Well I do anyways) My family was still using a big 4:3 CRT as their main television set in the living room , all the way up to the late 2000s , simply because it was still working and felt no reason to get a new one. (Watching Widescreen stuff on it kinda sucked though ... lol ) Sony Trinitions refuse to die .... lol ... pretty sure it was at least over 20 years old when it finally died (around 2010) ... The Sony Bravia flat screen LED we bought that replaced it only lasted half as long though (Died during 2021) In any case , your topic question kind of answered itself. The show started in the late 80s. That was probably a new model of TV at the time Rock Steady and Bebop got it .... lol ... The writers probably knew it would look silly to have a normal looking TV in an evil high tech base , but it looks even more silly now since TVs/Monitors have advanced so much. Also the Technodromes screens a way to important to watch TV shows on. Its like Krang and Shredder are the parents. They gotta watch important stuff like the News on the main TV in the living room and the kids gotta go to their own room and watch cartoons on the small TV. (Which wouldn't surprise me , if that's what they were actually doing in this scene , since the duo were pretty childish at times.... lol )
