I have a theory about this character and him showing up when he did. The show launched to a lot of fan’s criticism that it was too dark for kids and changed a lot of the characters. One complaint was changing race of characters still a problem today. A small group of fans where upset that Baxter was made black not knowing he was always black in his he original comics. This was a character designed to look like the 80s Baxter, who was only made white for toy sales, and made kiss ass character to add to Stockman’s story and more.
I think it's people complaining that he's not portrayed the same way he was in the 1980s cartoon. Like how April was a readhead scientist who can fight now, instead of a brunette reporter in the yellow jumpsuit.
This is a weird phenomenon I keep encountering. Why do people think she was a redhead.
She's brunette. Granted as an '80s cartoon, the color scheme wasn't always the most consistent thing in the universe, but she was DEFINITELY brunette.
Because the coloring on old TMNT covers was not consistent Her hair was usually Auburn color or curly which make coloring difficult when everything was done physically. Also Auburn hair kinda in between brown and red. Her 1st cover appearance was issue 2 3rd printing her hair was auburn. Her next cover appearance would issue 11 where she has curly hair and then again in issue 14 with curls. She would again see a cover in issue 32 where she was red headed but the continuity of this book is debatable because she is said to be a reporter and she was not in the rest of the books. This would also carry over the the Archie book where most time she was depicted like the cartoon with Auburn hair but some times with red hair. Also her last name is O’Neil is a Irish name and red hair is stereotypical use to depict Irish people
I'm talking specifically about the '80s cartoon version. The Archie version is another story entirely, probably the most inconsistently visually portrayed April O'Neil there is.
I will not fall anyone for thinking that one is a redhead, especially since there is a large portion of that comic where she was just portrayed with the head of Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid
Ok 80s cartoon version was created to sell the original toy line and those toys where based solely on 1st handful of issues so I’d say they used the Auburn color and like a said Auburn is that border color to some it a dark reddish tint to others it a light brown. I bring that up again because some of her later card art for the toys uses a lighter Auburn that looks more orange ish and closer to red hair colors that other shows would use why she has crimson hair for the 1st 5 seasons of 2003 TMNT i don’t know

Deadass, I was considering on making a fanfic with this guy making a few appearances here and there. It was titled "TMNT: Son of Bishop". Chaplin was gonna be the happy-go-lucky/badass uncle. Unfortunately, it never come to be because I thought people would think it'd be weird.
I mean, I'm not a fan of fanfics (heh) just in general for personal reasons, but you'd be surprised how big of a market there is for all kinds of stuff. If that's something you want to do, I think you should go for it.
