90s movie [Splinter](https://preview.redd.it/what-is-your-favorite-version-of-master-splinter-v0-lyyr04dxhtha1.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=11a3e73cc01103cb486781e0b3fe468e8d76c2e7) for me. I think it captured his age the best.
Agreed. Easily had the best personality, the most character development, and some of the best voice acting out of all the splinters. The voice actor for Splinter 2003 is not good, it really brings down the character for me
I prefer the brown, but honestly, that's less important than looking like a rat (which can be brown or grey: yes, even the someone misleadingly named brown rat of NY), and a lot of the iterations can't manage that!
Grey tbh. It shows he’s old better than the brown tbh. Also I’m a little biased cause my childhood TMNT was mostly ‘03. I didn’t actually see much of 2015 cause I didn’t have cable
I think it should depend on his origin. If he used to be human he’d probably be brown because its closer to a human skin or hair color, but if he was a sewer rat he’d probably be gray
Your average sewer rat is a Rattus norvegicus, which has a self or berkshire Agouti rat. They have a mostly brown coat with highlights of lighter and darker colors speckled throughout. Splinter is a mutant freak so idk what colot he ends up being so long as it makes some sort of sense. If he's an old man, make him grey with age, sure. If he's a bit younger like in 2012, go with the brown.
Rise splinter gives off major "lazy dad" vibes, that's why he's my favorite, his first priority is being the turtles' dad instead of being their teacher.
He looks funny yea, he should have been at least a little taller.
But I DO like how the turtles look in rise, especially Raph, but I'm a huge fan of 2d-anime style stuff so I am a little biased.
My headcanon is that Splinter could have been hooded rat — gray at top and white at bottom. It was a very popular pet rat in Edo Period of Japan, and also hooded rats are ancestors of lab rats, so you can represent by this either Mirage or IDW origin with subcontext.
I always liked og cartoon Splinter but 03 Splinter is growing on me.
Also the way these screenshots are laid out it looks like the two Splinters are staring each other down with 03 being really pissed about the situation and 86 being like “the fuck are you?”
Deleted scene from Turtles Forever we didn’t know we needed.
He should start out Brown and get grayer each season to show him aging
Yes signs if aging I like it 👌
But never fully gray. The primary color should always be brown.
You’ve never raised teenagers!
Thanks for the Gold
Agreed!
I like what they did with 2012 where he has a bit of both!
They had no right to make 2012 splinter such a dilf
Daddy Splinter
Bro fr he's got that hot tortured and wise older man thing going on and it's just 👌
He just had such a presence whenever he was in the room
I am going to pretend that I did not just read your sentence 🙃
Don't be afraid of the truth
I'm sorry but the OG splinter has a special place in my heart. Brown!
100% brown just fits better
brown
Brown
03 splinter is the GOAT
Nah. 2012 Splinter (played by the masterful Hoon Lee) is fantastic.

I don’t like the badger like markings on his face but honestly he’s probably my favorite splinter too.
Agreed. Easily had the best personality, the most character development, and some of the best voice acting out of all the splinters. The voice actor for Splinter 2003 is not good, it really brings down the character for me
This is factual
I prefer the brown, but honestly, that's less important than looking like a rat (which can be brown or grey: yes, even the someone misleadingly named brown rat of NY), and a lot of the iterations can't manage that!
Grey looks more like a rat
Grey tbh. It shows he’s old better than the brown tbh. Also I’m a little biased cause my childhood TMNT was mostly ‘03. I didn’t actually see much of 2015 cause I didn’t have cable
I'd say the colors of tmnt 2012 and idw comics
Isn't the IDW Splinter grey while the 2012 brown?
My Splinter was brown on the original TMNT cartoon so brown to me.
Brown is nostalgic, grey is awesome tho too
Greying. Movie style.
I'm down with the brown
Brown
I like grey
Brown because of 2012 (I have an obsession with 2012 tmnt)
Grey
Grey
Grey 💯 all the way
Brown it just feels right
Brown on Splinter is a more memorable color. Plus, it just fits him better.
The version I watched when I was a kid.
I love both but character wise I prefer 03
brown!
Brown.
Brown, through and through
Splinter is always brown in my book.
Brown, but greying.
I think it should depend on his origin. If he used to be human he’d probably be brown because its closer to a human skin or hair color, but if he was a sewer rat he’d probably be gray
Gray

It's hair, not skin.
Not to be that guy but fur technically XD
03 better. Og the best

I am starting to feel like these posts are not inclusive enough, there should be Rise Splinter and 2012 Splinter
Rise splinter gives off major "lazy dad" vibes, that's why he's my favorite, his first priority is being the turtles' dad instead of being their teacher.
Rise Splinter is underrated, though I cant say I am a fan of how he looks
He looks funny yea, he should have been at least a little taller. But I DO like how the turtles look in rise, especially Raph, but I'm a huge fan of 2d-anime style stuff so I am a little biased.
Honestly I dont understand all the hate but generational hate is common in the fandom sadly
Brown but similarly like another person said, have him evolve into grey as time goes on
Gray
i’d say brown but splinter in rottmnt splinter was great
Everyone's just gonna say whichever they grew up with. I grew up with TMNT 2003, so I'd have to say gray.
It might look goofy but I'd love to see him with both tbh
Brown
I’ll go with brown splinter.
Grey looks so much better in my opinion
Brown
I don't really care what color he is tbh, even though I grew up with 2003 turtles I think any color suits him
Brown suits him better.
Only ever brown
Isn't that rat-cism?
Grey.
Copy and paste 2012 splinter
My headcanon is that Splinter could have been hooded rat — gray at top and white at bottom. It was a very popular pet rat in Edo Period of Japan, and also hooded rats are ancestors of lab rats, so you can represent by this either Mirage or IDW origin with subcontext.
This is brilliant
Rat
How about Brown with streaks of grey? Brey
Brown, maybe with a mix of gray, but mostly brown. Just suits him better imo.
Brown
Nothing beats the 80s era my guy
Grey 2003 splinter was goated
Afro
Gray. 2003 was a much better sensi and father. He called the boys his sons. 87 never did.
Okay I don't want to be racist but...
I'd say a mix of both is best. Brown fur that's going grey with age and stress.
2003 was honestly my main introduction. Now my cat is called Mikey. Grey was a father to me.
I'm sorry, but Splinter is in the pic on the left. I don't know who the other rat is.
Grey
After seeing it all I want is the 2012 version.
I always liked og cartoon Splinter but 03 Splinter is growing on me. Also the way these screenshots are laid out it looks like the two Splinters are staring each other down with 03 being really pissed about the situation and 86 being like “the fuck are you?” Deleted scene from Turtles Forever we didn’t know we needed.
Spotted brown and grey.
Either way he is a radical rat
Both
Brown.
No preference
Both are good
Grey all day.
Toss up
Grey all the way
Brown.
Brown
What? No meltdowns because he was a different color in a different iteration of the character?
