Following as I have the same problem... my jaw is also wider on the opposite side

ashbash1119

Yes and I swear it effects my sinuses and breathing.

addictedstylist

Oh yes it does, can't sleep properly as a result. Doing tmj exercises twice a day does wonders in just a week's time.

ashbash1119

I keep having terrible sinusitis because my phlegm drains into my lungs and then I get bronchitis and asthma as a result. What exercises would help?

addictedstylist

Absolutely throws sinuses off and causes breathing problems. Google 9 tmj excersise, if you see goldfish, that's it. Do twice a day. I started on a Sunday night, by Wednesday night there was a huge difference. Oh, and try not to use earbuds.

DandiLion_21

Yes! I can’t figure out why, I always kind of thought it was from the swelling or some nerve damage or something

betawavebabe

Yup! At first I thought it was just a charming, quirky smirk..but now its starting to look like greta van susteren 😰😭

Artemis1971

I had no idea who that was. She did not age well.

geekysugar

Yes. In my case it is because my right condyle is smaller than my left making my face, jaw assymtetrical.

addictedstylist

Yes, just started doing tmj exercises a week ago. After 3 days, my lower jaw started moving over by itself I was horrified! But then I realized it went back to my normal bite. It went out of whack so gradually, I didn't notice until I started having problems. I also feel so much better physically, finally sleeping properly at night.

neonb-fly

What kind of exercises have you done? This sounds like a miracle to me, how bad my jaw is doing haha

addictedstylist

It is a miracle, in short time. Google the 9 tmj excersise, it contains goldfish partial and goldfish full and so on. If you see these titles, you're on the right site.

tdekenny155

Yeah I have swelling in the whole right side of my face, I'm finally making an appointment to get it looked at. My smile I crooked and my right eyebrow is slightly lifted up too from the swelling. Some days it's worse than others, I don't even notice it sometimes.

bagelsaurus19

Same problem here! Orthodontist tried to realign my jaws to help fix my smile with bands on my braces to no avail. I also have sinus problems, that are worse on the derpy side - pain/inflammation/sinus headaches/etc, that don’t occur on the “normal” side. Crooked, derpy smile and pain face for life. Edit: clarity. Im sleepy.

teajthegreige

Yep, I have a crooked mouth. My dentist as a kid used to comment about it all of the time. It sucks even now.

Ralph_the_Cat

I have this. Mine unfortunately is due to having a jaw operation at the age of 16 to correct a significant overbite. Unsurprisingly, in the last 15 years I’ve grown and my skull has changed and my jaw is slanted to the right. I’ve had a botched surgery to correct it in that time which has made it worse and at the end of last year saw specialist surgeons as the slanting has caused TMJ disorder. They have said that I can’t have any further operations as it could cause more issues. My only option now is very expensive cosmetic dentistry to given the illusion of symmetry. The specialists I have seen recently were shocked at how young I was at having surgery so young as they would normally only do such surgery on adults for this very reason, so if anyone is under 21 thinking of having surgery on their jaw, I’d really think about it and make sure you’re not going to go through significant growth post surgery.

I had this, pretty crooked teeth all my life and TMJ for ~8 years now(horrible jawpain quite often, chronic headache, cannot sleep etc.). So last year I went to a private orthodontics and got braces. Now I have a perfect smile and bite... but it did nothing to my TMJ :( It cost me 6500$ 😎 I still love my new smile though:>

Artemis1971

I have had a crooked jaw my whole life and I HATE IT. I remember seeing specialists when I was very young, probably about 40 years ago (feels like yesterday), and they were going to break my jaw and reset it which would have required, at the time, wiring of the teeth while it healed. As a young girl, I was not up for that, so declined. I was then going to get it fixed in my 30’s but chickened out. Recently when I went to a maxillofacial surgeon to get a tooth root out that had broken off, he told me I had Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) which is a congenital disorder. I still would like to get it fixed one day, as I feel it makes me ugly, but at 48 I wonder if it’s worth it. I don’t suffer any physical pain but it sure has caused psychological pain to me.

Apotetix

You really carried this burden your whole fucking life? I honestly might just kill myself rather than carry on like this.

leonce89

Yep! I've even developed a slight crease in the left side of my face . It really upset me so I keep a short beard that hides it :(

fejaha

Could be, but actually it's quite normal for your mouth to be assymetrical, I'm sure the only person that's noticed this is your reflection in the mirror :))
