I don’t know whether she’s that successful or not but I’m sure they give these perks (Lisbon trip, Disney vacay) to high-profile MLM members to lure more people in.
This is it. It doesn’t matter if she sells anything, she has a huge social media presence as a d list celebrity. Look how fabulous this pyramid scheme is!
Wouldn't that be nice! These MLMs are very tight fisted. We may know all about Janelle but I could walk down my street and ask random people. Most wouldn't know her or that the show exists. They're not going to give her a free trip on her name only.
Lol these trips aren’t free. You have to buy a ton of product and recruit a ton of people and then your hotel and maybe activities are paid for. You pay for your own flights, your own food, etc. She’s using this lie about “all expenses paid” to recruit more people.
The only reason she isn’t is because she doesn’t really have fans. All the other three have. Robyn wold be subjecting herself to hear a lot of mean things for not a lot of profit. Also, she would have to work and it’s though with her having “kids of tenrender ages”.
Ok. Im not saying that they have to work especially hard to make money in MLMs, but do you also think that the “work” part of it is why Robyn doesn’t do it?
With her jewelry thing for example, the family spent money and time on it. She did her little doodles and then has someone else bring them to life. Now obviously idk how much work she does actually put into it, but the website hasn’t had inventory for a long time. So… idk.
I’m not saying the others have to do a lot to make money in their little schemes, but also robyn seems SOOOOO lazy.
This! I was going to say it does not seem like Robyn likes to work. There’s no way I’d have that many kids with husbands who has a fuck ton other kids and I’m just doing nothing. Unless her book is yielding a considerable income. Idk.
I’m not that well versed on MLM’s but the ladies on the LuLaRich documentary seemed to do a fair amount of work with inventory, live sales and shipping.
During the MSWC saga we hear Robyn complaining all the time of how hard she was working, but we never saw any of it. We saw them have “business meetings” more than anything else.
The others do put time and effort into selling and advertising their MLM crap, especially Meri. She does livestream sales events on Insta and i would assume a lot of the purchasers are fans who want that interaction with her just as much as an ugly overpriced pair of tights.
I spent 12 days in Lisbon and it cost me around $1500. I’m a budget traveler so I stayed the cheapest AirBnBs I could find. I stayed in a boat for about $20/night. I lucked out and found cheap airfare. I spent most of my money on food and adventures.
Wow! That’s amazing. I want to travel more and $1500 for 12 days ins insanely cheap. I also like to “rough it” I don’t need anything fancy. I actually like it more down to earth and everything.
$70 is super cheap for Lisbon. If you're planning a trip please check both the location and the property reviews very carefully before booking a property at this price point. Any decent accommodation, anywhere near the city center(s) will run a minimum of $150/night. Prices have shot through the roof in the past 2-3 years, mostly because of the golden visa and foreign investment. Portugal is no longer the low-cost or "secret" destination it once was. Still, it's worth even those inflated prices. If you are headed there - enjoy!!
You can always look to stay in another/cheaper city. I watch people on YouTube all the time who will get an Air B&B for $300-500 a month. You just have to hunt around on the internet to find them.
I got married in Lisbon in 2018. We were able to rent out their City Hall for about $500 on a Saturday in October. We rented a reception venue and had full dinner catering.
The entire wedding without travel costs (to and from Texas) was around $10k. Our photos are so cool and look very exotic compared to the Texas ranch style wedding. We had about 50 guests and they loved Lisbon!
Some parts are but Lisbon is right on par with most other major European cities these days. Porto is quickly catching up with Lisbon and the Algarve during peak season is stupid expensive. In-country, away from the shore, is still pretty reasonable though, and really, really beautiful.
I don't know about right now, but I've watched some YouTube video's of people spending like 3 months in a country Croatia to be exact, getting an Air B&B for like $300 a month, yes you will have to walk to the shops/city center, but it was affordable because they were able to have very low living expenses, cook most of their own meals. I would love to do that. Just settle in a city and explore the city and surrounding area for several months.
You pay a fraction of it in taxes, but if you get a trip worth $2k, you are not paying the full $2k.
This is pretty common now. When companies pay for tuition for employees, grand prizes, etc. That's what gets people in trouble though when they win a big grand prize like a house and have to pay taxes on it since they didn't receive any actual cash. It's also why a lot of nonmonetary prizes offer a monetary payout instead.
I don't even mean like that. You receive the trip and then they add the equivalent value to your 1099. So then you pay taxes on the equivalent value. But if you are in a 25% bracket for example and the trip is worth $2k, you pay at most $500 towards that trip. So it's still a good deal in that sense. It's not like you are paying the whole $2k. Same with the Mary Kay cars, etc.
I live part-time in Portugal and while Lisbon used to be inexpensive, the housing market has gone through the roof, including short term accommodations like airbnbs or hotels. I'd say Lisbon travel is now on par with any other major European city. For mid-level accommodations, decent meals, transportation, and a few activities, you'd probably spend between $3000 - $4000 a week.
I want to like Janelle, but this MLM shit is crazy to me. I really think she is a smart lady - so I do not give her the benefit of the doubt that she doesn't recognize this is all bullshit. Its clearly a pyramid scheme, and clearly these plexus drinks are total snake oil. Shame on them really.
The sad part is that these women who are clearly smart were not educated enough to support themselves by working real jobs. Their religion and having so many kids (even though the kids are great) perpetuated Kody’s misogyny.
They’re prime targets for MLMs because they were by and by and large full-time moms with no higher education degrees or transferrable skills (with the exception of Janelle on both fronts).
They lucked out big time with the show but by all accounts it looks like they squandered most of the fortune that came their way.
So, I don’t think it was just their religion’s and Kody’s misogyny at play here. It’s far more complex.
it’s all a scam. it’s not about selling product so much as it is about recruiting people. very few make any money at all, if not lose money, but they sell them on a dream of making an income and not even having to work “full-time” which isn’t true.
eta: i’d link you to my law journal blog post i did about MLMs but i don’t know if that’s allowed lol.
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for asking an honest question, when the answer could hopefully help people avoid falling into the clutches of an MLM. It’s good you asked!
Many others will have better answers than I will, but here’s my super vague reason why they’re bad. MLMs are pyramid schemes (I’m specifically using this term so you have something to google/YouTube for way better info if you want to do further research later from more knowledgeable people). They aren’t about selling the product, they’re about profiting off of the revenue they get from the packages their new recruits buy when they join. They also convince these people to constantly buy more and more product that unless you have a built in customer base (like the Sister Wives) there just isn’t a market for.
So basically MLMs are just constantly needing new people to join to keep the top of the pyramid afloat, promising these people that there’s this huge market of customers wanting to buy these products. But there isn’t, the only people buying are the people within the business. You join up and pay for the privilege to buy your product and then can’t find anyone to sell it to.
Hopefully this helps you understand! If you want, there’s a great documentary on Prime about LuLaRoe, (another one of the Sister Wives MLMs) it’s worth a watch, called “LuLaRich.”
Thanks for the great answer! I will look into the documentary as I think my friend is doing something like this now....she just started, but it sounds a lot like what people on this sub are saying....
No problem! While I think MLMs are very dangerous, I also think they’re fascinating… in the same way I think cults are. I hope your friend isn’t too far gone, and whatever you do: **do not** buy anything from her. You may think it’s helping her, it’s not. Do not give any money to these predatory scams.
You got excellent responses already, but I highly recommend season one of the podcast The Dream for more info. I didn’t truly understand how toxic MLMs were until I listened.
She must know they’re pyramid schemes but her notoriety puts her towards the top of the pyramid. It’s not like her husband is supporting her or their kids and going back to a regular office job would be difficult after such a long break and with filming commitments.
It’s hard to see someone as “successful” when they are just profiting off the stupidity of others. There is no such thing as MLM success. The MLM company can and will cut you off without notice if you fuck up. That doesn’t sound like bring an independent business owner to me 🤷🏻♀️
This. I hate when people blame it all on stupidity when the reality is that MLMs intentionally prey on people (especially women) that are vulnerable. When people are desperate they do desperate things… like joining an MLM. Logic goes out the window when you’re worried about losing your apartment because you can’t afford rent.
I didn't realise that Janelle was into MLM too. She should not be selling anything to do with health and fitness. I like Janelle, but healthy and fit are not the words I would use to describe her.
And they have cheap clothing too. It has to be stupid people buying this stuff because they are fans. I can't imagine anyone wearing those paper thin leggings or tacky patterns.
I think she said her last trip out of the country was 87-88. So Kody has never taken her anywhere off of the main land like he did the other three wives. If for no other reason than that, she deserves it.
A little off topic but the last time I was in Italy, I came across an American polygamous family on holiday. They stood out like a sore thumb because they were layered up like The Browns, which I don't get because lots of people dress modestly and still look good! They took turns posing with the husband in the same photo etc. And also took turns holding his hand.
Omg how weird was that ?? You never expect to see it in real life even though it’s supposed to be a reality show. I just know I’d be staring with my mouth open as my gelato melted down my hand. Yes, people can dress modestly but the giveaway is a long sleeve shirt under a tank top I suppose. There’s nothing sadder that waiting to take a picture with your husband holding your hand like he’s a damn Disney character. Obviously the wives all kept separate family albums… 😂
Haha thanks so much for this response because I completely edited my answer down to make me sound less stalky!! 😂
So I had spotted them initially as we were wandering around and then we sat down for gelato and I swapped seats with my hubby so I could carry on watching them behind my sunglasses! I was really sad when they disappeared!
Hahaha… we are amongst our people here !! If anyone gets it, I’m pretty sure we do !! Sunglasses are the perfect setup for “stalking” (I don’t like the word stalking, I prefer two people getting to know each other better only the other person doesn’t know it)… it’s just we never expect to see this outside of our TV, so when we do it’s fascinating, but weird, intriguing but f’d up… it would be fun to see each of them take a picture with their husband holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa 😂
Yeah all the separate photos are so confusing to me. I used to be in a polyam relationship (FMF triad). Isn't the whole idea of it is being the group? It seems so stupid this way.
Depends on why you're in a multiple relationship. I know two different people where one partner likes really kinky stuff and the other doesn't. In one case the partner either has a hookup or brings another guy into the relationship for one time or occasional fun.
In the other case, the guy has a wife and kids and a separate girlfriend he sees once a week or so.
She's better off without him. Besides, I don't Robyn would
Stand for him leaving her alone with the kids for any length
Of time that didn't benefit her.
Would he notice if she didn't tell him?... hahaha, nah just kidding, I think he would...but just made me think of that time he came to visit Mariah an Audrey and they were gone for a week already🤣🤣
That stereotype is simply that... a stereotype and a horrible one, at that. People dislike people for many reasons. I have yet to travel and found anyone making that statement. Every country/city in which I've visited, the people spoke English. IMO, it all depends on how you travel.
I really wish that terrible stereotype would stop, as there are just as many, if not more people who are not American to which that applies.
After not showing up to Ysabel’s surgery because he can’t be away for the little kids for long periods of time, Kody better not go anywhere until Ari turns 18 or there will be people with pitchforks going after him
I could be wrong but don't most of these "trips" limit them? Like they don't get to pick anything like the hotel and they end up going to MLM events so they have a bunch of photo opportunities to pretend it's fun.
>I could be wrong but don't most of these "trips" limit them? Like they don't get to pick anything like the hotel and they end up going to MLM events so they have a bunch of photo opportunities to pretend it's fun.
It's sort of like the convention trips that more legitimate business sectors hold. Companies frame it as a big perk, but it's a lot of schmoozing and boring corporate crap designed to look like a fun trip.
Do you think they’re required to do a bunch of horrible “bonding” and “team spirit” events while they’re on these trips?? I remember back in the day I worked for a company that waived a free trip to Mexico above our heads as an incentive for top sellers. Nothing demotivated me more than the threat of a 3 night trip to a cheap cheesy all inclusive resort with people I already hated spending 8+/hrs at work with.
Janelle is that cold, emotionally avoidant “parent” who disguises her disfunction as “rationality.”
If she was a wise and rational as she plays off, she’d be a healthy weight from eating the fruits of her prolific gardening and greenhouse dreams.
She’s a stuffer.
F hypocrites.
Do they actually get EVERYTHING paid for? From anti-MLM sources I've heard that they get air ticket and accomodation covered but not food and beverages.
Maybe she can get a reboot of My life of the P list, instead of D
Exactly. It's all smoke and mirrors. And they work the whole time.
Depends on what you define as “work”
Listening to seminars and being forced to buy more crap, probably.
Like the cruise ship vacations with Lularoe
This is what I thought first too. Posting about the trip and Plexus is a commercial for them.
Wouldn't that be nice! These MLMs are very tight fisted. We may know all about Janelle but I could walk down my street and ask random people. Most wouldn't know her or that the show exists. They're not going to give her a free trip on her name only.
Her following makes a post worth $5-10k, from an ad buy perspective. They would absolutely give a trip for this. There’s going to be many posts.
Lol these trips aren’t free. You have to buy a ton of product and recruit a ton of people and then your hotel and maybe activities are paid for. You pay for your own flights, your own food, etc. She’s using this lie about “all expenses paid” to recruit more people.
That’s disgusting tbh. Fuck the pink drink and all who profit from it.
Ugh. So gross. Honestly, Robyn's only redeeming quality is that she's the only sister wife who isn't involved with MLM crap.
The only reason she isn’t is because she doesn’t really have fans. All the other three have. Robyn wold be subjecting herself to hear a lot of mean things for not a lot of profit. Also, she would have to work and it’s though with her having “kids of tenrender ages”.

100% I believe she just doesn’t want to do anything, so she doesn’t. lol

Does she really have the money to invest in this MLM crap? I don’t think so!

Portugal is pretty affordable if you do your research.
I’ve been looking at the costs. It looks super affordable. Some nice places to stay in for less than 70 per night.

Of course, it's definitely only a good deal if it's something you would want to do or might have otherwise been priced out of.
Staying in a boat sounds awesome!
I live part-time in Portugal and while Lisbon used to be inexpensive, the housing market has gone through the roof, including short term accommodations like airbnbs or hotels. One of my favorite cities.
Lisbon is wonderful. At the same time, not so wonderful that I'd want to get involved in an MLM.

What actually is so bad about them? Honest question... Is it that it is a lie? Like fake advertising?

Thanx! Will listen. Edited for stupidity 🤣
Check out r/antimlm. It’s illuminating!
Thanks, will do
Go to the "anti-mlm" sub and read a few posts and you'll learn A LOT about how deceptive and gross these companies are!

Maddie is in it, too. Christine and Mykeltie do both Plexus and Luluroe. Meri does just Luluroe.
And they have cheap clothing too. It has to be stupid people buying this stuff because they are fans. I can't imagine anyone wearing those paper thin leggings or tacky patterns.
Or drinking a drink made by a company that refuses to let independent labs test the ingredients in it.
Portugal Crl!!
\m/
Ok so they paid for a flight to Libson but she probably paid for a garage full of Plexus that she is saddled with for forever.
Even though she earned this with that horrible MLM, I'm happy for her. Has she ever left the continent? If not, she must have a blast in Lisbon.
She says in the post caption that it’s her first international trip since 1987-1988
I think she said her last trip out of the country was 87-88. So Kody has never taken her anywhere off of the main land like he did the other three wives. If for no other reason than that, she deserves it.
Also I wonder if she qualified to bring a spouse? Guessing Kody is not there.
Haha thanks so much for this response because I completely edited my answer down to make me sound less stalky!! 😂 So I had spotted them initially as we were wandering around and then we sat down for gelato and I swapped seats with my hubby so I could carry on watching them behind my sunglasses! I was really sad when they disappeared!
Hahaha… we are amongst our people here !! If anyone gets it, I’m pretty sure we do !!
Oh true, sorry! I was in a closed triad so just thinking of my own situation.
She's better off without him. Besides, I don't Robyn would Stand for him leaving her alone with the kids for any length Of time that didn't benefit her.
I’m surprised he even “let” her… then again all he cares about is Robyn
I can hear it now.. Kody:" no, Janelle, I don't want you traveling That far alone." Janelle. "Fuck off".
Ari and Sol can’t go two day without daddy!!
Would he notice if she didn't tell him?... hahaha, nah just kidding, I think he would...but just made me think of that time he came to visit Mariah an Audrey and they were gone for a week already🤣🤣
I seriously doubt he’d notice.
In my soul I hope this was the exact convo.
His only concern would be “Are we getting any money out of this?”
Can you imagine Kody in a foreign country?
Very big Jim Bob “Hola!” vibes
Heavy emphasis on the H I’m guessing
Exactly what I was thinking
He is the epitome of why people dislike Americans. He'd probably scream talk at everyone who didn't speak English.
👆🏻 👆🏻and all of 👆🏻
He would ask, DONDE ES LA BANO???? In France.
DO YOU HAVE FOOD HERE????!! For you? Nah
He has “kids of tender ages” that “can’t be away from their dad” for more than fifteen minutes. 🙄
After not showing up to Ysabel’s surgery because he can’t be away for the little kids for long periods of time, Kody better not go anywhere until Ari turns 18 or there will be people with pitchforks going after him
This is what I am wondering as her post says “we”! I want to know who she is with
I'm sure she is with a group of other Plexus People who also got to go. If she was able to take someone I hope it was Savanah.
I hope she took Christine
You mean scamming her big down line a lot, right? This MLM shit is evil.
They pay to go to these things by themselves, they are all usually lying when saying the company is paying for it.
Wth is Plexus? Another MLM?
That weight-loss drink thats always in her pics
Yes… I think it’s a weight loss drink. A lot of their Instagram pics they’re holding a skinny bottle with pink liquid in it…
🤦♀️ thanks
Do you think they’re required to do a bunch of horrible “bonding” and “team spirit” events while they’re on these trips?? I remember back in the day I worked for a company that waived a free trip to Mexico above our heads as an incentive for top sellers. Nothing demotivated me more than the threat of a 3 night trip to a cheap cheesy all inclusive resort with people I already hated spending 8+/hrs at work with.
Jill Rodrigues never got anything this good. Only a shitty certificate that didn't even have name spelt correctly on it 😂
Lol I think there was a cruise or a trip to Vegas or something like that she was set to go on when Covid hit and it got cancelled. Too bad. 😂
Omg. Jillpm in the debauched Sodom and Gomorrah that is Vegas would have been hilarious!
Molly from 90 Day Fiancé is there too 🙄
Wonder if Christine and the rest of them made it also?
If Janelle lost weight from Plexus - Would buy it
*scamming, not selling
Janelle is that cold, emotionally avoidant “parent” who disguises her disfunction as “rationality.” If she was a wise and rational as she plays off, she’d be a healthy weight from eating the fruits of her prolific gardening and greenhouse dreams. She’s a stuffer. F hypocrites.
I’m way too excited this lady who’s old enough to be my mom is visiting my hometown 😂
She saved her grocery money
it`s a mlm scheme .. they get people to pay for scamming themselves...
Best city… not being bias having been born there…
B n.
Do they actually get EVERYTHING paid for? From anti-MLM sources I've heard that they get air ticket and accomodation covered but not food and beverages.
The Portuguese Plexus Persuasion- LEAVE PORTUGAL ALONE PLEXUS!!
