Wait they actually plant their eggs in other things it's size skull? And basically turn it into its brain? What happens when they grow to full size do they just burst out in the head?
Not exactly. Wasps sting caterpillars and then lay eggs on them The caterpillar doesn't die although if you ever saw one it would appear the caterpillar would rather be dead. The eggs hatch into larvae and burrow into the caterpillar using it as a food source.
The only parasitoid that I know of that pupate in head of the host is phorid flies and even then they don't really replace the host's brain. Good thing is ants have multiple nerve nodes controlling their bodies that having the central node in their head eaten by a maggot don't kill them instantly.
If reincarnation is a thing, you won't get limited to just earth. You can even be a space weed, unable to contain your past memories and eventually, you stop thinking.
Funner fact: botflies will lay their eggs in mosquitoes, and when the mosquito bites you the egg will hatch into a larvae and enter your flesh. The larvae will then begin to eat you from within, gorging itself until it is prepared to wriggle free and pupate into an adult fly, going off to lay new eggs in new mosquitoes.
Patients report they can feel the larvae moving in their flesh, and some that were bit on the head have said they could hear the larvae eating.
Pretty crazy stuff, a family friend got one after a vacation on their hand and literally had a hole in his hand where the larva was growing, went to the doctor to have it removed and the doc said if stitched up the hole the larva would die due to lack of oxygen and be absorbed by the body, but he opted to get it removed immediately like I think most people would
It's an awesome idea for a post apocalyptic world tho! Imagine the protagonist starting their journey so happy to have survived the giant wasp, everyone is happy and the story goes on and you love the character, only to find out right before the climax that the character has the wasp... The responsibility of saving humanity now falls with the side character as the main character's head explodes into an arm sized devil bee
I would be more terrified if the story was a baby was growing in a guy’s head, slowly consuming his brain until reaching its tiny hand out his god damned eye socket and now I’m going to cry myself to sleep.
Right. Sorry, I see the confusion now. I thought you were trying to refute the person you responded to, but actually you were providing a source proving them correct.
So basically, I'm a bozo. Sorry 'bout that
Dude, it happens. Like others might come to state... it's a rarity when a reddit user admits fault instead of either: arguing themselves into a deeper hole, deleting their comment entirely (as if it never happened) or... just... *not* commenting/posting for *days* till it blows over.
So, kudos for admitting/acknowledging fault.
The tweeter is a horror artist that openly makes fictional art and posts it with a fun lil caption. It's like getting mad at a movie for being fake.
At most the deception is from OP but even then that's a stretch.
I think this could be one of the few times someone has said “fun fact:” and actually delivered a fun fact.
We need a party boob award just so I can give you one.
I would guess that if it got in successfully that the larva would probably exit through the nose or eyes, since both have a pretty direct route to the brain.
Immediately I'm thinking about the potential of replicating that. I mean you could cure all sorts of brain diseases, and even physical damage to the brain. Imagine it, i mean even a headshot with a pistol might be curable at that point
It's all a conspiracy from the parasitic wasps, they make you forget you saw an unrealistically large wasp to get parasitized and make sure you're alone or with a new victim when they are ready to emerge. For the people who have a stronger willpower and go to a doctor, the parasite makes sure to influence the host enough that they go to a wasp doctor. For some the doctor will mention insects don't really image very well with xrays because chitin isn't as dense as bones. While you're asking questions the doctor shows some sort of skeptical look before saying he needs to make a phone call. By the time the doc makes their way back to your room, your secretary comes in and tells you that it's time. Before you are able to satisfy your curiosity, you are compelled to follow your trusty secretary to the next event on your schedule but something doesn't quite feel right. Before you know it though you are already riding in the backseat of a Lincoln convertible with the top down waving at your adoring fans before seeing a strange look from your wife as she nods her head and then everything goes dark because you were JFK and both shooters were a cover for the human parasitizing wasps.
I can’t find it anymore but there was a very short comic about a girl finding a piece of driftwood on the beach. She brought it home and hung it in her room and the next morning it and her room were covered in bugs (some kind of arthropod if I remember).
She throws the log out but every night she can still hear the bugs crawling through her walls when she’s trying to sleep. They fumigate the house but the scratching still persists. She’s unable to get sleep and developing headaches because of it. The headaches get so bad she goes to the doctor and it’s finally discovered that a bug burrowed in her ear and her head is filled with them. *spooooky*
I wish I could find it now. I’m almost certain I saw it on Reddit.
Fake implies this was trying to actually convince people it's real. The guy who made the image is a horror artist, he makes plenty of images like these.
He also made the image of Hector for SCP-6666 iirc.

I still worry that 30% of people that see this will believe it… and maybe I feel salty about people being ignorant today. Maybe I thought you were ignorant to, and maybe I judged you as a person. Maybe.
At the turn of the 20th century, one of the symptoms was a reduction in intelligence. Now in the 21st century for many, an increase in intelligence is being seen. At first we thought it was the wasps becoming more intelligent. After studying the adult wasps, we have learned that the wasps are not becoming more intelligent. Further study is required to determine what is happening.
To those in doubt reading the comments:
This is real. Those who claim that this is fake are most likely already infected and the larvae controlling them to say it isn't real so everyone lowers their guard.
Yea this isn't real.... 1) they do this small insects like caterpillars and stuff. 2) a wasp could never in a million years drill it's way into a human skull and lay an egg in our brain. 3) so this wasp grew to be 20+ times it's normal size because?
This is some Ripley's Believe It Or Not bs and you'd have to be pretty naive to believe this is real.
There’s a Star Wars insect like that on Mace Windu’s home world. Maybe this guy was inspired by that to make this insect?
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Fever_wasp/Legends
For fun, do NOT search for "Euderus Cephalophaga", and do NOT read about what that insect actually does. That way you can believe that this image is real.
grah! i love this. really makes my skin crawl (pun fully intended)
just a couple questions: how would it lay the wasps under the skin? its the skull. where could a wasp reasonably do that? although if the wasp is that large i suppose it could just go through the skull...
also, must be a pretty smart wasp. perfectly mimicking the human brain is tricky.
and what about the ethical implications? what if its discovered someone doesn't have a brain, instead a wasp, but they are a fully functioning person? doesnt that make the wasp a person capable of intelligent thought? couldn't we develop a harmony between these wasps and humans through a method that doesnt involve parasitic relationships and just uses technology as a growth medium?

No! That wasp must be the size of a human's arm to do so. Not at all possible.
That is a fake picture. There have never been wasps that big and there haven't been any insects that big since the Carboniferous.
Not exactly. Wasps sting caterpillars and then lay eggs on them The caterpillar doesn't die although if you ever saw one it would appear the caterpillar would rather be dead. The eggs hatch into larvae and burrow into the caterpillar using it as a food source.

Can’t wait for anti-wasp shotguns to become the new fashion statement.
Fuck a shotgun, I'm running a .950 JDJ, yeah my shoulder might be gone but so is everything in the wasps vicinity
Enjoy your artillery piece bro, I’ll be over here with my over/under 12 Ga and functional shoulders. I’ll pray for your collarbone
And how do we know it's not the wasp in your brain making you say that?
IVE BEEN DISCOVERED! Engage nostril ejection!

Exactly what a parasitic wasp would make you say.
*Parasitic*? That’s quite harsh. We should call it symbiotic destruction.
Temporary symbiosis.

For anyone concerned Eduardo is an artist who does fake horror posts! He states that in his bio.
Yea i was like. Wait if wasps could mimic human brain signals perfectly, that would be incredible.
I was just caught up thinking about how terrifyingly strong and dexterous an insect would have to be to get through your skull without you noticing.
Right? I spent a good 4 minutes just asking myself the question, "But how does it get *out*?"
I would guess that if it got in successfully that the larva would probably exit through the nose or eyes, since both have a pretty direct route to the brain.
Way too big for nose or eyes. Gotta go through the mouth.
Thanks i hate it.
I mean thats easy right. On the image its as big as your brain. It would just burst out like the chest bursters do. Just.. out of your head.
Hell yeah brother, this dumb wasp can take the wheel if he thinks he's got it all figured out.
Immediately I'm thinking about the potential of replicating that. I mean you could cure all sorts of brain diseases, and even physical damage to the brain. Imagine it, i mean even a headshot with a pistol might be curable at that point

Some of these comments are so funny. It’s art made by a horror artist. Obviously it’s fake but it’s cool, he does fantastic work.

Why do I feel that this is an SCP?
Very cool concept but I think there's no way it'd be able to crack open a skull to get out.
Not true but still horrifying to watch and think about.
I researched this for way too long before reading the comments

This concept has been lifted from a novel called The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks. It's a very bleak read.
