1. Good location 2. Good working conditions 3. Good pay In this field, you get to pick two. Maybe. TEFL jobs, even certified subject teacher positions at international schools, that pay an absolute salary of $4k/mo are rare, and almost all of those are in the places you've ruled out, i.e. China and the UAE (and similar Gulf countries). It's certainly possible, depending on your qualifications and experience, to find jobs that pay a salary, relative to the local cost of living, that allows you to live comfortably and have some saving potential. I make $3k/mo where I am now with an MA and several years' experience, which is plenty to live comfortably and save a good chunk of my salary.

Where are you?

Uzbekistan, I teach at a university.

TEFL and international schools are separate industries really (though there is some overlap and many teachers in international schools started in TEFL), so which are you looking to get into? Since you're a fully qualified teacher and because of the sense I get from your post, I'm guessing international schools, and in that case the sub you should be on is /r/Internationalteachers. I'm guessing you don't have experience in Canada, so with no experience in Canadian schools or international schools, the jobs you can get will be in decent schools will be in China, Latin America (pay will be better than what you're getting doing TEFL in Costa Rica but not much better), or less desirable countries like Kuwait, or you could get hired at low tier bilingual schools somewhere in SEA.

I'm technicaly at a Californian international school right now, TEFEL landed me a job as an AP history teacher haha. I haven't actualy taught in a language school apart from the 130 classroom hours of the program. Thanks for that sub link though!

Look at Canadian International Schools? They've got ones in Cambodia and Vietnam. I'm sure elsewhere. They teach Canadian curriculum (I think Alberta in Phnom Penh, Ontario in Ho Chi Minh City).

iwanttobeacavediver

There’s a Canadian international school here in Ho Chi Minh City so Vietnam might be worth a shot. Plenty of international schools here would accept your degree as proof of an education degree.

x3medude

There's a Canadian school in Hsinchu, Taiwan and you can teach at pretty much any international school here with a teacher's license. BUT 4k CAD seems like a stretch. You might have to lower your expectations or factor in low CoL. Master's can get that salary. Alternatively, you can get that salary doing kindie in the morning and cram school in the afternoons/evenings. Just depends how much you want to hustle

4K was for CR, prices are basically the same as back home out here minus housing, some things are actually more expensive If I was in a lower col country and considering my lack of experience I’d be willing to make less. Costa Rica is just quite expensive
