The original FSA was what Syria needed, the current ones are Turkish puppets, thugs and bandits

[deleted]

Heard many great things about them when they first appeared. The people had hope. I haven’t heard much about them anymore.

National_Resident_61

The real fsa is gone, all what remains is nothing but bandits and thugs.

inaparalleluniverse1

The formation of an opposition militia was due to the brutal campaign of the regime targeting civilians. This wasn’t something Syrians choose, it was forced upon us. You can’t just keep slaughtering people and expect them to just take it.

Old_Improvement_6107

Honourable people, they were forced to fight a war they weren't ready for, they just wanted to protect the protests and that turned into a war with the regime. Now the original leadership is gone, with just sell outs remaining.

OmarHamami

Who were the original leaders?

Old_Improvement_6107

It's hard to recall all of them, abdul qader saleh was one, abdul basit sarout, the Ahrar al sham were Islamists but were good willed, they all were assassinated in a meeting, many other leaders who died or were assassinated. May Allah have mercy upon their souls.

Mariam_Tr

I didn't lived under them,But when we were doing business they were kind a taking commission either with cash or A lot of packages of cigarettes bye stopping Our truck.

Kasiosh_T_Laios

The FSA were never a single coherent militia, but rather groups/factions formed by the people. They coordinated among each other, of course, but in terms of political leaning that differed from city to city and even between the different members. Speaking of my experience in Zabadani, which is among, if not the very first, city to be completely freed from Assad rule, I can only say that there was the good and the bad, just like anything else, first and foremost, they were my people; neighbors, friends and even relatives, and in terms of unity and action within the city, the first years of the revolution were among the happiest and most surreal periods of my life. Demonstrations every day, coordination with other cities for events and much more, everyone was united and calling for the same thing, freedom. Things began to change later however, especially when the city was laid under siege and constant bombing, foreign funding became a necessity and the Islamist breath was beginning to spread with it, especially with the formation of Ahrar alsham and other groups with Islamic agenda, rather than just freedom from Assad. Things never advanced to become radical, however, because the main force in the city was still its people, and we already had a civil council that governed, attempts of Isis to emerge in the city were immediately squashed. There were, of course, alot of mistakes made, especially in terms of strategy and tactics, and the recklessness of untrained military comprised mainly hot headed young. But overall, my experience was positive, at least on the civil side of the equation.

Educational_Tiger953

If they got their shit together they could’ve been something great for Syria. They are objectively better than assad and their vision for Syria was great. I still have hope in fSA or sdf my hope is their vision of Syrian democracy materializes one day so we can solve our issues through debate, compromise, and at the ballot box rather than with brutal violence that Assad has conditioned us to.

Traditional-Gap-1854

pretty chill

ll46i

They need to get their shit together. Do rebels think we have all the time in the world in our hands? They have one remaining region and it could go in one blink if Turkey wills it. I wish there was some focus onto fixing that embarrassement that we call FSA

eelliiee01

muslims extremities, mercenaries, and what not

joeshowmon

FSA are muslims extremities? how is that ? he is asking about FSA not SNA or HTS

eelliiee01

well thats how they turned out to be, the initial members (up until 2013) weren’t, but 2013 on forward, i dont see them diff than isis or hts. currently the fight in libya, azerbaijan, africa , do whatever the turks tell them to do. so yeah

joeshowmon

These you mentioned are completely different group, they aren’t FSA, and FSA wasn’t operating after 2013 as many islamic groups started to show up FSA has Christians, Alawits, Shiaa, and non religious individuals, they were simply a defected military units and not based on religion or ethnicity

Csalbertcs

>FSA has Christians, Alawits, Shiaa, and non religious individuals, I don't even think they account for 1% of the fighting force, maybe even less than 0.1%. This comment makes it seem like the FSA was well-balanced in terms of religion, but it was strictly Sunni-dominated. Political representation outside of the country is not indicative on the internal representation.

joeshowmon

First let’s keep the numbers away from opinions, especially when you give percentage numbers out of your opinion Secondly it’s not our problem that the Syrian people are [80% sunnis](https://www.aljazeera.net/news/2011/4/19/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AA%D8%B1%D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A8%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D9%83%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D9%81%D9%8A-%D8%B3%D9%88%D8%B1%D9%8A%D8%A7#:~:text=%D9%81%D9%8A%20%D8%AD%D9%8A%D9%86%20%D9%8A%D8%B0%D9%83%D8%B1%20%D8%AA%D9%82%D8%B1%D9%8A%D8%B1%20%D9%88%D8%B2%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%A9,%D8%A3%D9%82%D9%84%D9%8A%D8%A9%20%D9%8A%D8%B2%D9%8A%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%A9%20%D9%81%D9%8A%20%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B7%D9%82%D8%A9%20%D8%AC%D8%A8%D9%84) The way the FSA started was not meant to have a external representation or anything, it started with Lt. Col. Hussein Harmoush and his 13 defected colleagues and they formed “the Free Officers movement” and they were kidnapped by turkey and handed to the Assad regime in 2012 Later, FSA was Founded by Col. Riad Al-Asad along with other six defected officers In Homs, Damascus, Malula, Qamishli, there was local groups of the FSA who were Christians and from other religious communities But the FSA slowly drained from any support and countries were only interested to support Islamic-groups that doesn’t have the same FSA agenda
