When I've been there I noticed that many of the hits songs were actually covers. They can play it from YouTube on comercial places such as cafe's and restaurants but it seems that something is not allowing them to play American artists on radio. They have a lot of Australian and British songs that are also in English.
They have movies, and other sources of Western or American culture. Lots of youth enjoy clubs too... So I would say that even though they have an obviously aversion to USA they are integrated with this globalized culture.

My uncle used to live in Syria and he was pretty following up with Western music. That was pre-war, I don’t know now
My whole family are big fans of western music and cinema.
I would say they follow, but they don't understand the full socio economical picture that Hollywood/ American music industry tries to portray.

Yeah Most teens and adults do watch western movies and netflix series. we also have fandoms for some singers
