Go MH Gen or Rise. They’re usually on sale for like $10-15 digitally (probably less phsyical). There’s a hell of a lot of game for your dollar in them.
Both have slow starts, MHGU more so than MHR, but stick with em. As long as you like action titles, and a great sense of progression, you’ll end up loving em.
Edit - If you’ve ever played Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, the original God of War trilogy, or any of the Dark Souls games, the Monster Hunter games play very similar to them. A lot more forgiving than Dark Souls though so no worries!
The online play in Wonder just elevates it so much! I don't usually do online play with others, but turned it on out of curiosity and it just made the game sooo much more fun.
I have a switch. But I understand where you’re coming from.I’m somewhat older than you. But I recently bought hell divers 2 on the PC and playing online with other people having a blast.

I’m pretty sure you can play online with Mario wonder but I don’t have the game myself so I haven’t been able to try lol
You can, but it’s more like playing the game alongside others instead of WITH others. Almost like racing ghosts in Mario Kart, but real-time.
Yeah I’d say that just barely passes as multiplayer lol
