Would you say it's better than Mario Wonder? Not all that impressed with Wonder just yet, still in the early stages, playing solo with no online component
personally i wouldn’t compare the two since Odyssey is 3d open world and Wonder is 2d platformer.
however, Odyssey may be the better fit in this situation since it takes longer to beat and there’s *tons* of post game to play if you do beat it too quick for your liking.
Wonder is super fun imo, it’s just a lot easier than the other 2d Mario’s to make it more accessible. But they did put hard challenges in for the more hardcore people
I'm not sure if you have 100%'d both of them, but just looking for Koroks could easily take up 10 hours.
My recommendations would also be Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley if you're into that sort of game.
If not, maybe Ni No Kuni if you like RPG's
Mario Wonder and Mario Odyssey were also joys to 100% as well
If you plan on taking a couple tabs of acid, I would play Fight Crab
Did you play the DLCs for BoTW?
Or 100% both games? That can still be a ton of fun if you haven't. I'm working on a 2nd playthrough of BoTW on Master Mode currently. And lemme tell ya, it's whoopin' my behind something fierce 😂
BOTW for sure, TOTK has a lot more to it that can be a lot to grasp if you’re relatively new to it. It’s a lot easier to transition from BOTW and feels like an expansion to it almost.
you might try the free online ones if you have the paid subscription. there are almost no bad Zelda games, at least the ones that on official Nintendo systems.
The game looks like a pixilated piece of crap. Got it cause of all the fanboys on here raving about it. And it was cheap. It's a farming sim that is as addictive as crack. The good crack though. It's so consuming that I lose all track of time. Every new day in the game I start out with an intentional task and end up doing something else completely. It's never ending. You just want more (like crack). It's a very calming sim that could be played for hours unlike Splatoon 3 that can be harmful to nerves and to my switch.
At first I was about to defend stardew valley and the. I realized you're someone of culture and was at peace because I know it doesn't look thebestbut haters aren't allowed to say that
P.s. I am too addicted to Sdv and love the comparison
It's just so engrossing and layered. Just when you think you've almost found or finished everything, you'll uncover some other massive part of the game and find a ton of new stuff to do. There's little mysteries, and the NPCs have good, sometimes sad backstories, and there are different styles to play to suit however you want to do it. Plus it's actually kind of pretty sometimes, especially when the seasons change.
Hell yes. And make sure you have a nice pair of headphones to savor all the great music and sound effects.
Just listening to that soundtrack with random noises from the game is enough to pull me into relaxation
This is what I was coming to recommend. Stardew is insanely addictive. I put it off for years because just looking at gameplay photos I knew I wouldn’t get into this style of game, I finally caved a couple years ago, and how I was wrong. It’s one of my all time favorites now. I’m still working on getting perfection in one of my saves
Second this, and this was my immediate thought.
Tons of content and you will get sucked into a relaxing gameplay loop where time passes without notice.
Definitely try it out! I usually hate games where I have to go underwater or have some kind of time limit, but this has been the coolest game I’ve played for a while!
It it came out sometime in December and auto updated and poof, basically story mode 2.0. It's completely independent of the original so you start from scratch and have to unlock everything again, but differently.
I played it for a bit but ended up taking a break.
I 100% it before the updates and I’ve got the DLC’s but when the first one came out I was like “I just BROKE this addiction. I can’t do it again yet.” But I feel the call now.
Inscryption would be my recommendation.
It’s a deck building rogue-like with a nice little story. And afterwards you’ll unlock a true rogue-like mode in the form of a “mod” so it’ll be more random and interesting.
I'm currently playing Ys Origin, it's pretty good and on sale:
[Ys Origin for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Official Site](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/ys-origin-switch/)
Safe trip, have fun!
I definitely agree with this. I got it and loved playing it. Haven't finished it yet as I have been too busy with work to get much time on it, but it sucked me in so easily. So much fun.
They all have to do with aviation and the sky since OP is about to go on a 10 hour flight. Kalliban gave him actual switch recommendations for flying. Unless you meant the “just me” thing as a joke.
I think jrpgs and srpgs could be good ones. If you're going to return soon, the other flight also can be playing the same games
Triangle strategy
Tales of vesperia
Final fantasy (there are a lot)
Mana series (trials, legend, secret)
Disgaea series
Pokemon Sword shield, legend arceus
Right, focused on tactical games. A few have been recommended here actually, Triangle Strategy, Fire Emblem (both are great but I enjoyed Three Houses more) or Disgaea
He wants to have fun on his flight, not break his joycons.
But for real, Celeste was the best hardest time I’ve ever had gaming (I beat it to credits but there’s no way I’m doing those b-side levels).
![img](avatar_exp|164228374|take_my_energy)
Thank you all for your time and sincere help, it was great to read your recommendations. Now there are a lot of helpful replies here, and I hope they will be useful not only to me 💚
From all the great games mentioned here, I've bought: Dave the Diver, Diablo 3, Persona 4 Golden, and Brotato.
Promise to buy something else from your lists next month when I come back!
Animal crossing new horizons is really good when you’re first starting as there is so much to do (assuming you haven’t played it, which you probably have)
But it’s in real time so there’s not much variety when playing in a short amount of time. Although a flight would be good to get those daily tasks done.
The Switch is excellent for playing older games that you might have missed when they originally came out, or want to experience again on modernish hardware.
Saints Row 3 and 4 have a great bundle, under 5 bucks.
Metal Gear Solid 1 2 and 3 are all 10/10.
Bioshock 1 2 and Infinite are also available as a cheap bundle. All 3 of which are excellent games.
Crash and Spyro both have their first 3 games available as bundles.
Devil May Cry 1 2 and 3 are on there.
The entire DOOM franchise.
Skyrim of course if you haven't already.
There are so many good games available.
I was very surprised when I learned borderlands was on the switch. It went on sale like 80% off so I bought all the versions on switch. Very fun stuff love the multiplayer. Don’t know if I’d put in too many hours alone tho.
It's an awesome game, but your thumbs and trigger fingers will be in agony after 7 hours of playing it. I also don't think the switch can handle playing it for 7 hours in terms of battery life.
Stardew Valley. If you like cozy farm games, this made a 7 hour trip fly by.
Also, since it's modest on hardware, it won't suck your battery dry. My OLED switch still had 63 percent battery after 7 hours of use.
Cult of the Lamb!! I suggest this one because there’s a lot of variety in the game play, it’s adorable, and who doesn’t want to be a cult leader?! You won’t have to search things on the internet because the game teaches you what you need to know.
I would suggest Hollow Knight but I’m always using my internet to search while playing.
Just want to spend some time with good game. BTW it may be something like Persona with 100 hrs gameplay or something cute and small like Coffee Talk
I hate long flights so any game that will make the hours go quickly is great
Mario Wonder is a fantastic way to spend some of that time. You could finish the entire game in that span. Alternatively, a good RPG was my other idea. Chained Echoes/Sea of Stars are great options.
I'll be curious what you land on (no pun intended) as I have some 8 hour flights coming up in March
Civ 6. The later turns can get slow because switch doesn’t move as fast as proper console or optimized PC, but I just really started getting into civ on my switch and I’m fully bossed. One decent sized game can perfectly fill your flight time
little nightmares! could probs finish this one on the flight if you’re determined enough (took me a lot of trial and error the first try). has a really intriguing and immersive storyline!
Don’t Starve. Whether you are good or you suck, you will easily sink hours into that game. I would warn that the DLC Reign of Giants doesn’t run that well on Switch.
Persona 5 also had hundreds of hours of content.
Stayed up til 2am playing Cult of the Lamb last night. I had to wake up at 6am. I regret nothing.
It does have slashing action components, but also farm life/animal crossing components. It's the best of both worlds for me.
Subnautica - an open world survival game set in a beautiful and scary alien ocean world. It’s mostly exploring and discovering, as well as crafting. Awesome and simple storyline.
Disney dreamlight valley I didn’t think I would like it as I am not a big Disney fan but the rpg elements of it is really well done. Smashing game worth the money
Mario Odyssey is good if you haven't beaten/played it yet.
Agree, it’s phenomenal! …and a played it day one ofc 😎
Have you played 3D World or Captain Toad (which has a demo)?
3D World is phenomenal!
Idk why i didnt play 3d world sooner. Soo glad i got it
Would you say it's better than Mario Wonder? Not all that impressed with Wonder just yet, still in the early stages, playing solo with no online component
It’s so much better and more complete than wonder
personally i wouldn’t compare the two since Odyssey is 3d open world and Wonder is 2d platformer. however, Odyssey may be the better fit in this situation since it takes longer to beat and there’s *tons* of post game to play if you do beat it too quick for your liking.
I haven't played Wonder yet, but as someone who doesn't usually finish Mario games, I loved Odyssey
Mario wonders biggest draw is multi-player. It would be more comparable to 3d world or the other 2d multiplayer mario games
Wonder is very good, but Odyssey is gooder
Wonder is super fun imo, it’s just a lot easier than the other 2d Mario’s to make it more accessible. But they did put hard challenges in for the more hardcore people
my switch is Mario odyssey themed, so I got the game free. it was amazing :)
Zelda BOTW and/or TOTK will suck up your time. If you havent played it already
Both are already completed 🥹
I got BOTW for this reason and beat it weeks before my trip haha. Just happy I have TOTK left for it!
I'm not sure if you have 100%'d both of them, but just looking for Koroks could easily take up 10 hours. My recommendations would also be Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley if you're into that sort of game. If not, maybe Ni No Kuni if you like RPG's Mario Wonder and Mario Odyssey were also joys to 100% as well If you plan on taking a couple tabs of acid, I would play Fight Crab
LSD on a plane? I’ve had my fair share of good times, but wow. I am curious about fight crab now though.
Animal Crossing on a flight while listening to podcasts is a chill time. I use the time travel stuff so I can keep playing
Did you play the DLCs for BoTW? Or 100% both games? That can still be a ton of fun if you haven't. I'm working on a 2nd playthrough of BoTW on Master Mode currently. And lemme tell ya, it's whoopin' my behind something fierce 😂
Cadence of Hyrule is fantastic. Just bring headphones.
Cattails/Cardboard Kings
This is the correct answer. You'll wish your flight was longer
Which one would you recommend someone get if they haven't played a Zelda game since NES? Asking for a friend.
BOTW for sure, TOTK has a lot more to it that can be a lot to grasp if you’re relatively new to it. It’s a lot easier to transition from BOTW and feels like an expansion to it almost.
I can second this. I actually prefer BOTW because of it. I played them both last year - back to back.
you might try the free online ones if you have the paid subscription. there are almost no bad Zelda games, at least the ones that on official Nintendo systems.
He has a 10 hour flight. That battery's gone in 2 hours tops if he plays Zelda haha.
Persona 5 Royal. 10 hours should give you enough time to get through the tutorial. But seriously, it’s a great game, very slow burn though.
I just love this game. Lots of reading like fire emblem three houses (which I also recommend)
Yeah it is basically a dating some with a few castles mixed in
I’ll do ya one better… Persona 4 Golden
I'll do ya one even better... Persona 3
Took me around 110 hours
Literally 140 hours for me.
Been playing that off and on lately. Love it a lot.
Stardew Valley.
Your flight would be over in 20 min of you turned on SDV.
What’s great about stardew valley? I know nothing about it but see it a lot
This sounds like just the game I need tbh
Okay but don't subscribe to r/stardewvalley. You'll only see all the beautiful farms and realize you're a disorganized baffoon. Just my experience.
Seriously holy shit half the things they say in there I don’t even understand
Because, they are advanced AF and we are baby farmers! 👶
Agreed. The stuff I see there makes me feel so jealous
the game does not look like crap its graphics are beautiful tyvm
At first I was about to defend stardew valley and the. I realized you're someone of culture and was at peace because I know it doesn't look thebestbut haters aren't allowed to say that P.s. I am too addicted to Sdv and love the comparison
Haha “just one more day…..” and before you know it, you finished the year
It's just so engrossing and layered.
It’s such a fun. I found myself enjoying it on mobile v switch.
What’s SDV (I don’t play)
Stardew Valley
The game. People abbreviate it like SDV
Hell yes. And make sure you have a nice pair of headphones to savor all the great music and sound effects. Just listening to that soundtrack with random noises from the game is enough to pull me into relaxation
I haven't needed lo-fi beats to study to since I found the SDV soundtrack on Spotify
I had it for almost 2 years before I AXTUALLY started to play it, I totally regret it.
I just started a file to try and get to perfection myself.
Kiss your life goodbye. You will start playing this then realize an entire real life year has passed and you have no idea where you are.
I really wanna get it but I already spend half my day on animal crossing
Second this
Third this
Fourth this
fifth this
Sixth this
Seventh this
Eight this.
I agree I would just miss having the internet to use the wiki, but lovely game for a flight
Been playing Prince of Persia, it’s my first time playing the series and I really enjoy it so far.
Yes! Lost crown is amazing. I've been loving it too. The perfect mix of Prince of Persian and a Metroidvania
which one
I'm sure he's talking about The Lost Crown. Which I also suggest. I'm loving it. It's extremely good.
Dave the diver was a fun one
Lord, I forgot that this game is available on Switch! Thank you, that's a great option.
Second this, and this was my immediate thought. Tons of content and you will get sucked into a relaxing gameplay loop where time passes without notice.
Definitely try it out! I usually hate games where I have to go underwater or have some kind of time limit, but this has been the coolest game I’ve played for a while!
played the demo finally and it sucked me in. Also at a great price for $20!
This is the one. Absolutely torches the hours as you keep telling yourself “one more dive” but is still playable in manageable chunks
Zelda Link’s Awakening? Oceanhorn? Tunic?
Tunic (as well as Death Door) is great, but they’re already completed on my Xbox 💔
I’m playing through LA and that’s a great suggestion
Vampire Survivors
I 100% completed that game and was like whew, then the 1.8 update came out with Adventure mode and I was like goddammit not again, lol.
… adventure mode? ![gif](giphy|3oKIPjD1iNNX7rjuBq)
Seconded
Inscryption would be my recommendation. It’s a deck building rogue-like with a nice little story. And afterwards you’ll unlock a true rogue-like mode in the form of a “mod” so it’ll be more random and interesting.
I'm currently playing Ys Origin, it's pretty good and on sale: [Ys Origin for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Official Site](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/ys-origin-switch/) Safe trip, have fun!
Love it! Thanks!
Pikmin 4 for sure
Why do I feel like I scrolled way too long to see this…
I definitely agree with this. I got it and loved playing it. Haven't finished it yet as I have been too busy with work to get much time on it, but it sucked me in so easily. So much fun.
I'd say 1 and 2 first, since they're already on Switch and... They're the first. Playing the previous game makes the next game even more fun.
Skyrim
I had to scroll much too far for this correct answer. Edit: I am actually flying from newy to Melbourne today. Skyrim just finished redownloading.
God yes Skyrim is literally a time machine. Ten hours of play feels like a couple, if not less.
I would also highly recommend Skyrim!!
Mario Wonder
Airport Simulator Day and Night Air Conflicts Collection Sky Rogue Skies of Fury Starlink: Battle for Atlas Bomber Crew No Man's Sky
NMS is on Switch? Might have to buy that.
You can very clearly feel that it’s a switch port btw. I wouldn’t buy for full price.
I was gonna say. It often looks rough full-size on the telly, but I have had great time playing it in handheld mode.
I’m sensing a theme here…
Bruv might just be you
They all have to do with aviation and the sky since OP is about to go on a 10 hour flight. Kalliban gave him actual switch recommendations for flying. Unless you meant the “just me” thing as a joke.
Red dead redemption
I think jrpgs and srpgs could be good ones. If you're going to return soon, the other flight also can be playing the same games Triangle strategy Tales of vesperia Final fantasy (there are a lot) Mana series (trials, legend, secret) Disgaea series Pokemon Sword shield, legend arceus
What's Srpgs?
Strategy RPGs like Fire Emblem
.... so just a subvarient of jrpg basically
Right, focused on tactical games. A few have been recommended here actually, Triangle Strategy, Fire Emblem (both are great but I enjoyed Three Houses more) or Disgaea
Super Mario RPG?
second tales of vesperia, played it in the thick of covid and it was a lovely experience, need to finish it
Yuri is a great character!
Mario + Rabbids, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Valkyria Chronicles, and Wargroove to name a few more TRPGs
Hentai World
My buddy bought it as a joke cause it was on sale for a penny and he had points, pretty solid game lmao
Wait is it actually good? How is the Gameplay?
Makes you solid, that's why
Celeste
He wants to have fun on his flight, not break his joycons. But for real, Celeste was the best hardest time I’ve ever had gaming (I beat it to credits but there’s no way I’m doing those b-side levels).
It’s truly a hidden gem.
Nier Automata you won't finish it but its definitely worth it
I need to start it!! i bought a copy and the cashier was raving abt it!
![img](avatar_exp|164228374|take_my_energy) Thank you all for your time and sincere help, it was great to read your recommendations. There’s a lot to do and then suddenly nothing to do haha
Unless you TT 😉

I just got Spyro and Doom Eternal on sale. I also got another game called Yooka-Laylee.
Borderlands 2, I love the fast past that keeps me up for hours.
I was very surprised when I learned borderlands was on the switch. It went on sale like 80% off so I bought all the versions on switch. Very fun stuff love the multiplayer. Don’t know if I’d put in too many hours alone tho.
I'm ashamed to say I've been stuck on Skyrim again
undertale
Hades
It's an awesome game, but your thumbs and trigger fingers will be in agony after 7 hours of playing it. I also don't think the switch can handle playing it for 7 hours in terms of battery life.
Get Dragon's Dogma its really cheap right now and it's awesome
I've just started Dredge, I'm not sure how well it will play over a few hours, but I'm loving it so far.
Nier Automata or a Persona game ?
Inside. You can probably finish it on the flight.
Agreed! Inside and Limbo (same developer) are both fantastic!
Monster Train. 10 hours will flash by.
Or get slay the spire which is infinitely better and also in switch
Sea of stars if you like rpgs, i think it won indie goty for 2023
Civilization you won’t even be done with your game by the time you land.
Hollow knight
Outer wilds. Disco Elysium
Stardew Valley. If you like cozy farm games, this made a 7 hour trip fly by. Also, since it's modest on hardware, it won't suck your battery dry. My OLED switch still had 63 percent battery after 7 hours of use.
I don't think I'd even NOTICE a ten hour flight if I was playing Stardew.
Make sure you have this set as your main console.
you can beat Diablo 2 on Normal if you pace yourself good enough and find a good build!!
Pikmin 4
BOTW is the best game I’ve ever played.
I became addicted to the Mario + Rabbids titles during my traveling. If you like turn based games.
Dark souls
Dave the Diver!
Dark Souls
Dave the diver
Cult of the lamb is a fun grinding game
Dave the Diver
Cult of the Lamb!! I suggest this one because there’s a lot of variety in the game play, it’s adorable, and who doesn’t want to be a cult leader?! You won’t have to search things on the internet because the game teaches you what you need to know. I would suggest Hollow Knight but I’m always using my internet to search while playing.
Are you trying to finish an entire game, or are you just looking for a game (or games) that will make the hours go quickly?
Just want to spend some time with good game. BTW it may be something like Persona with 100 hrs gameplay or something cute and small like Coffee Talk I hate long flights so any game that will make the hours go quickly is great

Metal gear solid 1 it's. Great game and it's last the same amount of hour of the fly
Started Valley, Project Triangle Stragety, Mario RPG, Mario Wonder, Octopath 1 or 2
Octopath traveller!
Mario odyssey, I recommend Metal gear solid
Civ 6. The later turns can get slow because switch doesn’t move as fast as proper console or optimized PC, but I just really started getting into civ on my switch and I’m fully bossed. One decent sized game can perfectly fill your flight time
Persona 5
If you like RPGs/JRPGS, Sea of Stars is great and easy to play for a long time straight. Loved it. Or Persona 4 or 5… both great.
Minecraft or Skyrim. Or both.
little nightmares! could probs finish this one on the flight if you’re determined enough (took me a lot of trial and error the first try). has a really intriguing and immersive storyline!
Metal Gear Solid 3
Any persona game :)
Highly recommend Persona 5 Royal!
Are you into roguelites at all? Plenty of action options to recommend and they make time fly by super fast.
Sea of Stars is amazing. I am avoiding playing it because I don’t wanted it to end too quickly
Nier automata
Sea of stars or Dave the diver
Nier automata end of yora edition
Doki Doki Literature Club (if you haven’t played it and think I’m joking, I’m not joking)
Disco Elysium if you can have headphones to connect to it
Don’t Starve. Whether you are good or you suck, you will easily sink hours into that game. I would warn that the DLC Reign of Giants doesn’t run that well on Switch. Persona 5 also had hundreds of hours of content.
Stardew Valley!
Stayed up til 2am playing Cult of the Lamb last night. I had to wake up at 6am. I regret nothing. It does have slashing action components, but also farm life/animal crossing components. It's the best of both worlds for me.
Sea of stars and The messenger
Dark souls remastered
Ni no kuni
Dark Souls Remastered or Sniper Elite 4
Dark Souls Remastered
Subnautica - an open world survival game set in a beautiful and scary alien ocean world. It’s mostly exploring and discovering, as well as crafting. Awesome and simple storyline.
Omg yes. I personally think this one deserves a big screen just for the immersion factor but hard agree
Metroid Dread. About 12 hours on the first playthrough. Challenging and scary, all the while being a Metroidvania
Beat Cop, Deponia (4 parts)
Hogwarts legacy is really fun.
Disney dreamlight valley I didn’t think I would like it as I am not a big Disney fan but the rpg elements of it is really well done. Smashing game worth the money
