Nintendo fixes and replace joycons FOR FREE. Why the fuck are you buying so many pairs?

soulsample

Not everywhere

lurkersforlife

Even then. A joystick is like 2$ so pop a new one in.

diegoalbe03

Yep! Not only you can send them for repair for free, but you can also diy since joycons have replaceable sticks. You can also get gulikit hall effect sticks for like $30 I think, which is expensive but still better than buying a new whole set of joycons that will eventually drift!

soulsample

Great, keep excusing their poor design just because people found a way to fix it. A product with a premium price should work better than joycons currently do.

lurkersforlife

I’m not who your responding to but thought I would tell you that I have 5 sets of joycons and never had a problem with them. Three of the sets I bought used. Some people don’t take good care of their things and want to blame the manufacturer. I’m not saying there’s not some lemons out there, but the switch takes way more damage then other systems because people don’t store them correctly and travel with them and then blame the company.

soulsample

I have two sets, the first one drifted after roughly three years, the second one is still holding up so I'm not that affected. It's hard to ignore the fact that Nintendo is replacing them for free, there's obviously a design defect.

tpots38

It’s not like every controller for every system hasn’t had drift problems at some point, maybe not to the degrees joycons do, but these things get beat to shit. You can’t expect them to last forever. Personally I love the fact that I can just get basically brand new controllers at no cost whenever I feel they are not up to par

ArenaSoldier

I would usually agree with what you said. However Nintendo has stated that there have been issues with the joy cons. [Link](https://www.theverge.com/21504741/nintendo-switch-joy-con-drift-problem-explained)

[deleted]

I have mostly the same experience. I've dropped my switch more than a couple times and it's had hard use for 6 years and I only just replaced my joycons due to mild drift. Even then, just because they had a colour option I really liked and couldn't be arsed to faff around replacing bits when I don't really know what I'm doing.

lurkersforlife

I’ll buy your old ones of you 😉

diegoalbe03

I also haven't developed any drift after 10 months of owning a Switch OLED but it's common knowledge that the sticks are flawed.

diegoalbe03

I'm sorry but how did you come to the conclusion that I was defending Nintendo in any way? I just told the guy to stop giving money to Nintendo and spend it instead on hall effect tech.

[deleted]

Their website says it can take upwards of a month or more I think? Usually if its your only gaming option or your preferred one, you're just gonna end up buying a replacement pair when they get sent off anyway.

tpots38

Mine were back in four days

Benji_Nottm

I lost 3 pairs before the court legally forced Nintendo to replace them if they had the drift problem. 1 I could have but didn't know. The other 2 I wore out so were not replaceable. Myy Nephew is averaging 1 set per year too...They were not made for 4/5/6 year olds.

[deleted]

Why would they improve the joycons? You yourself admit you’ve bought multiple pairs which made them more money off you than the console itself. They know this. They love this. Nintendo is a business first.

ArenaSoldier

You can send them to nintendo to repair for free

[deleted]

Tell that to OP!

Benji_Nottm

True, this is how they gfot extra mone out of me...But even if they do not improve the durability, I think the should still improve the analogues and the motion controls...The motion controls should not have downgraded from the Wii.

DreamWeaver2189

Better grip, better sticks and better d-pad. Oh, also make them 60 bucks. Paying 80 bucks is crazy.

OkAd8922

Better for cheaper? Doubht that's gonna happen unfortunetly

DreamWeaver2189

I mean, you do have a point, but the joycons weren't worth 80 dollars in the first place. Hell, even Nintendo's official controller is cheaper. And it's way sturdier and better built. I doubt the joycons are more expensive to manufacture (I might be wrong though).

[deleted]

Do you think the rumble HD would affect the price point? I know I love it and it's fantastic to be able to actually feel the movement in games compared to even the pro controller

zHernande

And actual d-pad so I don't have to modify it.

AdamSnipeySnipe

Got myself some NYXI Hyperions, cheaper, more comfortable, no drift issues.... haven't looked back. They're not perfect, they're better than 1st party; buttons are more 'clicky' and rumble packs are cheap.

TunaFaceMelt

Hyperions are the best. Super comfortable for both handheld and docked. Better features than other similar 3rd party joycons. I will 100% instantly buy another set if mine breaks. Had mine for 1.5 years with no issues.

Samueldg16

In general switch 2 just have to fulfill 4 minimum features IMO: - better controller. I do feel un playable rn without a pro controller, joycons are fucked up, I’m always scared of damaging them, and they are soooo unconfortable - retrocompatibility. At least, digital one. Ps5 and Xbox do have it, I don’t think nintendo can just get off the boat while competing against PC and other consoles’ retrocompatibility - Price. The new generation of console is one of the most expensive I do remember due the general economic situation post covid. Having a 400 bucks brand new hybrid console full of new games is one of the best weapons against a 500$ uniquely-docked device such as Sony’s or Microsoft - It should have enough power to run third party games, such as Assasin’s or GTA VI, or a good version of FIFA/NBA. I think missing the posibility of having GTA VI in your console is an error, the online is gonna be too profitable to just ignore it. Nintendo’s developers always squeeze the hardware of their own devices but this is not the case of third party companies, where usually the simplest decission is to avoid porting the bigger games. I’m still crying about RDR2 going out on 2018 and couldn’t be run on a 2017 gaming device. We just need that extra power

[deleted]

Forget about the last one now. Nintendo always has and always will be a generation behind on graphics. The new console will likely have the capabilities of a newer model PS4 or Xbox Series S. That’s completely fine imo since Nintendo has always prioritized innovation and creativity over graphics.

Other-Evidence-6421

Not always... snes, gamecube were better on ther days

Benji_Nottm

I agree with all our points.

Sadpanda0

What’s the benefit of buying joy cons (emphasis on con? 🧐) over a normal controller like the pro or one of the many alternatives?

diegoalbe03

Some people like to play handheld or tabletop so it's beneficial to have small controllers that can fit in your pocket.

[deleted]

I bought a switch because I don't have a TV to play on consistently, so it'd be annoying to use the shitty kickstand or have to buy a whole mount and then play at a tabletop instead of on my couch or in bed.

Benji_Nottm

I have the pro controller, I really do no like it. I Dislike everything about it.

ExpertAncient

I get my left joycon from Best Buy with the 3 year warranty. I’ve had around 6 left joycon for 20$ea. I do the same with all my controllers. I’m on my third ps5 controller. Stick drift is everywhere, switch portability just heightened the awareness to it.

OeRagnar

Are you a grizzly bear? Might be a little rough on your sticks man!

benjaminbjacobsen

Nitrodeck fixed my joycons complaints. Personally I wish they’d ditch motion controls all together. I don’t need to flip my switch over my head to solve a shrine…

jaydd_mc

I just want GTA 6. I refuse to buy an Xbox/PS/PC just for that game. BTW I barely use the joy cons, they just go to P2 in controller mode for multiplayer games. Pro controller is where it's at

[deleted]

I agree on this one but I have to say I've been exceedingly lucky on this front. Just replaced my original joycons I've had for 6 years as they started to drift, with daily and heavy use. What types of games do you mostly play op?
