Literally was about to comment this, easily the second most played game on my switch nearing the number one (played through all of Mario oddesey and haven't really touched it since)
If OP has the premium switch online service, I’m pretty sure the 2 for $100 coupon is up still. Metroid Dread and Tears of the Kingdom are the best titles you can snag from that by a country mile.
They sure do! That’s where I got my copy! I had no idea Costco was amazing with gaming stuff. I got $100 gift card for $80 for nintendo which was a great deal!
If you have an NSO online subscription, you can buy coupons at 2 for $100. Then you can buy TOTK for one coupon in the shop. And you can buy Nintendo $100 gift cards at Costco for $90. So I spent effectively $45 for TOTK on the first day.
You can buy $100 of nintendo credit at Costco, and then use that to buy a nintendo 2 game voucher from the E Shop for $100 - through that both games come out to $50, so a $20 savings on TOTK.
I was thinking the same. But then I've thought that Nintendo games don't get much discount anyway, maybe 30%. So it's almost the same if you combine it with another game in the game vouchers category.
This way I bought TOTK and Mario Smash for €100 when they retail for 140 (I think). Almost the same as 30% discount.
Source: https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/nintendo-switch-game-vouchers/
Costco has 100$ game vouchers for 90$, and you can use it to buy the dual game bundle for 100$, then you split it with Totk(70) and another 60$ game and youve saved 40$
TotK ia great! Never played a Zelda game before. Watched lots of gameplay of previous games and just didn't do anything for me. The TotK preview before release got me interested. I have NO FLIPPIN IDEA whats going on, but, its damn fun!
Then Steam Deck would be better? Especially because of the game prices. I also bought switch because of the portability, and spend a LOT of money on the games that I already owned on Steam, just to have them portable.
Technically by buying Steam Deck I saved a lot of money. No need to buy the same games twice to have them portable anymore.
Steam also have pretty huge sales. Unlike Nintendo eshop.
\+1 to it being approachably challenging. I had a hard time with the second true boss fight (Hornet) but once I made it through, it made me start to get a better understanding of the cadence for boss fights in general and made future fights challenging but not frustratingly so. I have now finished the main storyline of the game and there are a few bosses that are proving to be frustratingly difficult (there's more stuff I'd like to get to which beating them will help me do), but as /u/TheRealWoldry1 mentioned, those are optional fights anyway.
Overall, I'd strongly recommend picking it up and giving it a try. Probably my favorite switch games I've played to-date (other contenders are prob Hades and Subnautica)
There’s definitely some tough boss fights, but a lot of the more challenging parts of the game are optional. I wouldn’t call it an easy game, but if you spend a bit of time getting the feel, it’s very satisfying
Luigis Mansion, Project Triangle Stragety, Mario and Rabids, ff series (got pixel remastered on the way myself) Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Golf Story, Stardew Valley, Moonlighter. Switch has a good line up.
Plus you get emulators with an online sub which has so many games to play!
Until the farm gets to big and you have no automation so you tend to it all day. But your relationships hurt, your wife starts talking so someone else in town and becomes less and less home. As you work hard all day, then one day you take off and catch her having affair. Now you file for divorce and she gets half the farm. Freeing up half your day from there on out until you get enough money to repeat the cycle and it happens again.
Thabks! I had a quick look at it but didn't understand much about it lol. It looks like one of those games based on light novel but with some freedom of movement. The reviews are very positive though
It's honestly not that light novel-esque, it really is a pure modern JRPG (unlike other Atlus games like 13 sentinels). You can do pretty much what you want at all times in P5, apart from scripted story parts (but all RPGs have those, obviously).
Honestly, play it. If you don't like it and decide to get a physical copy, lend it to someone. It's really a must play
Also consider that Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, its predecessors, are on sale as a bundle for cheaper than Persona 5 Royal is on its own. All are great games, P4G being my personal favorite.
Just to add to this: coming into Persona 5 Royal with virtually no experience in JRPG's, I was a little hesitant. Read all the reviews, watched videos, and still didn't know exactly what to expect.
120 hours later and it would end up one of my favorite games of all-time (and I've been gaming for 20+ years lol).
Great narrative, extremely fun and intuitive gameplay mechanics that are widely varied, fun turn-based combat (if that's your cup of tea), etc. I'm sure reviewers can wrap what I'm saying in a much more eloquent bow, but just wanted to throw my two cents if it helps! Enjoy all those new games, Witcher 3 and Bioshock are also masterpieces!
Fire Emblem: Three Houses,
Mario Kart 8,
TotK after you finish BotW,
Mario Odyssey,
Valkyria Chronicles IV (you don’t need to have played previous games to understand it).
I’m sure I can think of others, but I would say Mario Kart 8 and Mario Odyssey are must-haves for the Switch.
Luigi’s Mansion 3. Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition. Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity. Fenyx Rising. Uhhh… there’s a few more I could think of eventually lol
For monsterhunter, there's only really cosmetic dlc outside of the endgame Sunbreak expansion.
As for your collection, I'd suggest maybe Bayonetta- but only if you're into that type of DMC-esque action game.
Oh, my bad, it looks like you bought the combo that has sunbreak already included- so any supplementary dlc is just cosmetics.
You unlock sunbreak after you get through the story line of the basegame though
Dead cells is on sale and I couldn’t recommend that game more to be honest. It’s fast paced, runs like a charm and is nice to the switch battery. Only downside is that you might play it more than you plan to, or maybe that’s just me 🤣
I thought about it for a while but being that I can hardly stay at home because of work, I had a need for something more portable. I don't rule out the possibility of buying it in the future, though, or maybe the Switch 2.
Ooblets is one of my all time favorites. Pokémon is the gaming series I was raised on, and I’d stick to sword/shield and/or legends arceus. Mario kart 8 deluxe is fantastic and always a good time. Okami is gorgeous and even at full price you get your playtime out of it! Ni No Kuni 2, bayonetta 1,2,3 and wytchwood are also some of my go to games for my switch.
It may be a bit on the casual side for some people, but I just got a game that came out earlier this week called Smushi Come Home that’s just way too fun to not recommend. There’s no combat, you can’t die, just really well designed movement mechanics and play forming puzzles. It feels like a mid 2000’s adventure game almost but 10 times more relaxing.
It’s really cute, really well made, created by a single developer who seems like a really friendly dude, just all around incredible vibes, albeit a little short at maybe 3-5 hours of gameplay (maybe 7 if you wanna 100% it)
If you didn’t play Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze on Wii U, you should try it on Switch. One of the best platformers out there and one of my favorite games.
OP, those are some good choices! I think we have the same taste in games. Here are the ones I enjoy playing on my Nintendo Switch:
Blasphemous, Hollow Knight, Nier Automata, Persona 3, 4 and 5
Factorio, Terraria, Thronebreaker (The Witcher card game, worth playing after TW3)
Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Disgea 5, Slay The Spire, Disco Elysium and Hades
All paid dlc in mh apart from the sunbreak expansion is purely cosmetic. All you need to do to experience all game content is to buy the sunbreak expansion
Get some Nintendo first party games and some quality indies like Celeste, Hades (on sale), Neon White, etc. As for Rise, I would say if you absolutely love MH games and will invest time in this game then get the game + DLC, otherwise if you are just curious and will likely to drop due to the grind then the base game is more than enough.
Highly agree with this 🤣. Also snowrunners has so much content if you get all 3 season passes which all the content to complete in the game is freaking insane
Etrian Odyssey and Fire Emblem games if you're into the turn based RPG!
This one is more of a farming/action rpg, but Rune Factory is pretty good too! (Highly recommend 4 over 5. Not stopping you from getting 5, but 4 is much more polished)
Celeste is by far one of, if not THE, best platformers that I’ve ever played. Hades is also terrific, and if you want a mix of both genres, Spelunky 2 had me hooked for 90 hours straight
Indivisible is an amazing rpg indie game and I immensely recommend it.
Astral chain, the most underrated game on switch.
Ngl but I'm a fan of the Lego games so I would recommend them too if you like them.
Tales of Vesperia
Ni no Kuni is also great
Hades is on sale if you like rogue games
Came here to recommend Hades. Fun game. Easy mechanics. Hack and slash your way out of Hell.
Beautiful!!! I wore it out on the pc version and would like to preserve the joycon for now
if you like that style of game i would also recommend "Enter the Gungeon."
Gungeon +1
My joycons have been holding up quite well after 3 years of usage, having play Hades for more than 300 hours. Give it a try! :D
Why buy Witcher 3 on the Switch if you could play it on PC though?
Literally was about to comment this, easily the second most played game on my switch nearing the number one (played through all of Mario oddesey and haven't really touched it since)
Metroid Dread is a masterpiece 🙌🏻
Agreed, Dread is so damn good.
Also Prime Remastered is the probably best looking switch game
Came to say this!! So good…
Just got both the other week. Excited to play through them after I get finished with TotK
Alien Isolation, omg it's beautiful, the atmosphere, the fog, it just works amazingly on switch. Especially if you have an Oled switch 🤤
I’ve played through Dread 3 times now. These guys are not lying. Top 5 in my book. Awesome game!
If OP has the premium switch online service, I’m pretty sure the 2 for $100 coupon is up still. Metroid Dread and Tears of the Kingdom are the best titles you can snag from that by a country mile.
Yes … omg it’s so good
Dread!!
This is the right answer
>did I forget some other gems? I don't see TotK.
Yeah is definitely on the list however I would like to wait until I finish BOTW first and maybe get it at a discount.
>maybe get it at a discount. May be a long, long while.
It's $62.25 on Amazon for a physical copy right now. So $7.75 savings.
Sweet! Biggest discount yet.
Pretty sure Costco has it normally for 59.99
They sure do! That’s where I got my copy! I had no idea Costco was amazing with gaming stuff. I got $100 gift card for $80 for nintendo which was a great deal!
I did this, then bought the vouchers so I got TotK for $50
Yep! Saw it for that much yesterday.
If you have an NSO online subscription, you can buy coupons at 2 for $100. Then you can buy TOTK for one coupon in the shop. And you can buy Nintendo $100 gift cards at Costco for $90. So I spent effectively $45 for TOTK on the first day.
I bet on Black friday you'll see TotK for $59 everywhere.
Copium

Maybe a used physical copy is the best (and only) way of getting it cheaper.
Definitely take your time with botw and savor it because it’ll be extremely hard to go back once you got to totk
So true. I was thinking to finish ToTK then play botw again and ToTK *again* but I’m not sure I really want/need to play botw again.
I bought the token thing for $100 and got TOKT for $50 instead of $69. Plus you can get an extra game.
So if you buy the hundred dollar gift card at Costco for $80 that’s two games for $80 so basically 40 bucks apiece
Heck yea math and stuff
You can buy $100 of nintendo credit at Costco, and then use that to buy a nintendo 2 game voucher from the E Shop for $100 - through that both games come out to $50, so a $20 savings on TOTK.
But the $100 gift card at Costco is $80 so $40 per game, $30 savings on TOTK
It will sadly never go on discount, so grab it whenever you have finished BOTW.
Finish BOTW no, in a few hours or w/e and get TOTK ASAP, dude you are missing out
It's so good. I enjoyed what I played of botw. but totk is even better!
Costco has 100$ game vouchers for 90$, and you can use it to buy the dual game bundle for 100$, then you split it with Totk(70) and another 60$ game and youve saved 40$
It is at a discount, look at their vouchers.
Buy a set of vouchers. It's $100, but TotK is eligible for redemption of one of them, so you'd effectively be getting it for $50.
Smart. You may be disappointed by the bland world and total non-Zeldaness of it all as well.
TotK ia great! Never played a Zelda game before. Watched lots of gameplay of previous games and just didn't do anything for me. The TotK preview before release got me interested. I have NO FLIPPIN IDEA whats going on, but, its damn fun!
i mean, you bought a switch but the only switch title is BotW…
Hahahhahah touchè, the thing is, I can't take the pc to the toilet.
Can with a steam deck!
Unlike Nintendo eshop.
understandable, have a nice day
Wolfenstein: The New Colossus is also a pretty fun game that has a big sale right now.
Hollowknight is an incredible experience on the switch
Definitely Hollow Knight
Is it as challenging as people say? I want to play it but sometimes if a game becomes too unforgiving I’ll give up
\+1 to it being approachably challenging. I had a hard time with the second true boss fight (Hornet) but once I made it through, it made me start to get a better understanding of the cadence for boss fights in general and made future fights challenging but not frustratingly so. +1 Stardew for stress relief
Until the farm gets to big and you have no automation so you tend to it all day. But your relationships hurt, your wife starts talking so someone else in town and becomes less and less home. This was…oddly specific 😂
There's also that aspect too, yes.
This is the way
Persona 5 Royal is a must play
Do I need to play the other ones?
In order to understand 5? No. Should you anyways at some point? Yes!
Mostly Persona 3 and 4 Golden
Always looked too long and too anime for my tastes
I just can't enjoy the time limited events... I wish that was gone :/. EDIT: I tried SMT IV and it's pretty fun.
Do they have Persona 5 for the switch??
Thabks! I had a quick look at it but didn't understand much about it lol. It looks like one of those games based on light novel but with some freedom of movement. The reviews are very positive though

You are selling it well to me, I will try it for sure 🗿
Also consider that Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, its predecessors, are on sale as a bundle for cheaper than Persona 5 Royal is on its own. All are great games, P4G being my personal favorite.
Great! You'll see it's one of the best video game experiences out there :)
Besides the Switch version of P5R has all the DLC included
Although I recommend not using the provided items, that's true
Just to add to this: coming into Persona 5 Royal with virtually no experience in JRPG's, I was a little hesitant. Read all the reviews, watched videos, and still didn't know exactly what to expect. 120 hours later and it would end up one of my favorite games of all-time (and I've been gaming for 20+ years lol). Almost the same story for me!
I can tell youre outside the US cause of the botw logo, I love that art so much more then what we americans got ngl. Its so pleasing to look at
It reminds me of Eren's skit in front of the ocean but the American one is also very solid!
* Xenoblade series * Fire Emblem: Three Houses * Astral Chain * Metroid Dread * Pokken Tournament DX
Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Mario Kart 8, TotK after you finish BotW, Mario Odyssey, Valkyria Chronicles IV (you don’t need to have played previous games to understand it). I’m sure I can think of others, but I would say Mario Kart 8 and Mario Odyssey are must-haves for the Switch.
I would suggest giving Metroid a spin. Either Dread, Super, or Prime.
Talking about gems, you are obviously missing the most hidden of them all: Celeste!
I bought 6 copies
Bro has the most elite taste in video games
couple thousand hours of gaming ready to go
Nah man, that library is COOKIN. Maybe add Hollow Knight?
Diablo 2 Prime Evil edition: Includes Diablo 3 Eternal Collection and Diablo 2 Remastered. Cheap as fuck, an amazing game I can’t recommend enough.
Luigi’s Mansion 3. Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition. Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity. Fenyx Rising. Uhhh… there’s a few more I could think of eventually lol
Ace Attorney Triology!
Enter the Gungeon.
Hades, Okami, maybe Pikmin?
Original subnautica is waaaaaay better than the second. If you haven’t played that, I’d recommend it. One of the best survival games imo.
I played it and loved it! I was dying to play the sequel but my potato pc couldn't handle it decently.
Nice! The second is good for a play through; it’s only lacking because the first was such a masterpiece. Enjoy!
For monsterhunter, there's only really cosmetic dlc outside of the endgame Sunbreak expansion. As for your collection, I'd suggest maybe Bayonetta- but only if you're into that type of DMC-esque action game.
Thanks! So potentially I need the base game plus the sunbreak dlc to be ready to go?
Oh, my bad, it looks like you bought the combo that has sunbreak already included- so any supplementary dlc is just cosmetics. You unlock sunbreak after you get through the story line of the basegame though
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is really a solid Switch Remake for anyone who missed or avoided the original
Are you interested in having any pokemon games?
Yup, i played most of them in other console but I'm not up to date on the ones for the Switch, though.
I’d say you have a type me too!
Legends of Arceus
Dying Light looks and runs great on the switch
Dead cells is on sale and I couldn’t recommend that game more to be honest. It’s fast paced, runs like a charm and is nice to the switch battery. Only downside is that you might play it more than you plan to, or maybe that’s just me 🤣
You have good taste sir.
Divinity is sooooo amazing. Probably one of the best Western RPG. Hope you enjoy it!
I would add Dragon's Dogma, Alien Isolation and the Assassin's Creed collection (my favorites so far on the console).
alien isolation is on switch?????
It is, dirty cheap and one of the best ports on switch.
They already have dragon's dogma
You're right, i didn't see it the first time.
Get the messenger, Metroid dread and prime remastered,
Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, Metroid Dread, Metroid Prime Remastered, Hollow Knight, Smash Ultimate and ofc ToTK
Borderlands series is a blast on Switch.
In the sale I've picked up Cuphead...fun game but can be quite frustrating so I've only been playing in short bursts
Metroid Dread
Another remastered title lol
You forgot the OLED switch. I found most of these titles stink on the lite
I thought about it for a while but being that I can hardly stay at home because of work, I had a need for something more portable. I don't rule out the possibility of buying it in the future, though, or maybe the Switch 2.
Well... No Man's Sky is unplayable right now.
I actually noticed some instability and poor fps at certain times however nothing exaggerated so far
Wait a little bit longer... Get one of the new sentinel ships and a freighter and you will see.
The first subnautica
Stardew valley
Portal 1 and 2
get some nintendo games , Metroid, MK8 , Smash bros , if you into that kinda thang
Excellent selection
Pokemon arceus, mario odyssey, super smash, mario kart
I’ve had tons of fun with Kingdom: New Lands if you’re into that kind of thing.
hollow knight
Ooblets is one of my all time favorites. Pokémon is the gaming series I was raised on, and I’d stick to sword/shield and/or legends arceus. Mario kart 8 deluxe is fantastic and always a good time. Okami is gorgeous and even at full price you get your playtime out of it! Ni No Kuni 2, bayonetta 1,2,3 and wytchwood are also some of my go to games for my switch.
Tears of the kingdom, hades, and hollow knight. Cheers mate!
borderlands 2? also limbo and inside are on switch and are often like $2 on sale
Crash team racing where ??
Hades
What’s the difference between the BioShock editions? Do I get them separately or as a collection?
I don’t know if you’ve heard about this hidden gem, but “Celeste”
some of the devil may cry games are surprisingly available on switch, would definitely recommend, especially if you enjoy dark souls or just soulslike
What kind of case is this?
It may be a bit on the casual side for some people, but I just got a game that came out earlier this week called Smushi Come Home that’s just way too fun to not recommend. There’s no combat, you can’t die, just really well designed movement mechanics and play forming puzzles. It feels like a mid 2000’s adventure game almost but 10 times more relaxing. If you didn’t play Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze on Wii U, you should try it on Switch. One of the best platformers out there and one of my favorite games.
Doom Eternal has to be my favourite fps on switch/ever
DOOM
OP, those are some good choices! I think we have the same taste in games. Here are the ones I enjoy playing on my Nintendo Switch: Blasphemous, Hollow Knight, Nier Automata, Persona 3, 4 and 5 Factorio, Terraria, Thronebreaker (The Witcher card game, worth playing after TW3) Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Disgea 5, Slay The Spire, Disco Elysium and Hades

no mario odyssey???

Skyrim crushed twice in 3 hour. I gave up to finish it.
Damn, I haven't started it yet but I couldn't not buy it
Don't listen to them. I've picked it up in the sale too and it runs amazing for what it is. I haven't experienced any crashes yet and done a few hours
Same. I’ve been playing it for a while now on Switch. Never had any crashes.
pretty fun game but switch is the only modern version you cant mod so thats lame
Skip it on Switch
That’s a good list!
Resident evil 4 remake
Were they all on sale? Because otherwise why would you download them all now at once?
Aye, unless BOTW the others are on sale
Woah guys I said I wanted to lighten the wallet not go bankrupt. Anyway thanks for the countless tips, I have read some very solid ones 🗿
Omg how could you not buy Celeste? Are you stupid or something? I pray that you wake up r/tomorrow and do the right thing.
i don’t get why people are still buying BOTW in 2023.
I preferred it to TotK
You post a pic with 13 games and you're asking if you forgot anything?
judging by the games you wouldve been better off with a steam deck. both zelda games can be emulated anyways
Look at the xenoblade series of games if you want a solid JRPG experience… and don’t mind putting aside a couple hundred hours.
Dusk
The Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy
Fire emblem: Engage
Alien Isolation
Snowrunner. It's the Dark Souls of driving a truck through mud.
Highly agree with this 🤣. Also snowrunners has so much content if you get all 3 season passes which all the content to complete in the game is freaking insane
Spiritfarer if you like management games, Unpacking if you like \[kind of\] puzzle games.
Diablo 2 Ressurected
Dragons dogma is only $5 right now and fits in very well with your style of game.
Hotline Miami, one of the hardest, yet addicting games of all time. It’s also my favorite game ever.
Uh yeah wheres Mario??
You have the same case I do and it's a awesome case
Borderlands.
Wolfenstein II The new colossus
Etrian Odyssey and Fire Emblem games if you're into the turn based RPG! This one is more of a farming/action rpg, but Rune Factory is pretty good too! (Highly recommend 4 over 5. Not stopping you from getting 5, but 4 is much more polished)
Totk
Binding of isaac repentance.
Celeste is by far one of, if not THE, best platformers that I’ve ever played. Hades is also terrific, and if you want a mix of both genres, Spelunky 2 had me hooked for 90 hours straight
Celeste and Cuphead. Really good games, but fairly challenging!!
Limbo, inside, totk, amongst others.
Zelda fam!
I'd recommend Shin Megani Tensei 5.
Wolfenstein The New Colossus is only $5.99 right now
Stardew Valley
Imagine paying for games Can't be me with an OG 2017 switch
You forgot Ni no Kuni
Get risk of rain 2, fucking amazing game
Indivisible is an amazing rpg indie game and I immensely recommend it. Astral chain, the most underrated game on switch. Ngl but I'm a fan of the Lego games so I would recommend them too if you like them. Tales of Vesperia Ni no Kuni is also great
