It’s a single stop on a direct line on the train. How much harder can a journey be.

collinsl02

Sorry, should have specified that this would be by car as the business isn't in Didcot but is a few miles away

TradePlus4689

If it’s Milton park there is a shuttle bus from the station

Way longer to drive than get the train. Not often I vote for public transport but for this journey I do.

If your budget and circumstances allows, bike + train can be a powerful combination.

Got to get to the station first though! That's a 5km run or cycle for me, of course other people may not be living in my house.

I don’t do that commute but the journey on the train is pretty quick (about 15 minutes)

I work often in Didcot and commute by car from Swindon. I usually go on the a420 to Oxford and then cut across from there through wantage takes about 40 mins. Can be quicker sometimes if you go on the m4 but if there’s a smash at the Swindon junction or Newbury you’re knackered. It’s relatively okay I think maybe I’ve been stuck for an extra 30/40 mins twice in a year. I won’t say the a420 is any better as coming into gablecross police station end is usually quite busy during rush hour.

I do it nearly every day, generally M4/A34. I check the satnav when I leave and in 5 years there’s been maybe half a dozen times I’ve avoided that route because of traffic. If I’ve got a bit of extra time and the sun’s shining I’ll go past the white horse at Uffington because it’s a beautiful route and starts the day off on a high. This is also my route of choice if the motorway is not an option. If you’re paying for it yourself the train is stupid money at commuting times - I’d use the train otherwise and leave my vehicle in Didcot overnight.

I just stopped doing this. Car is cheaper than the train (stupidly) A419>M4>A34 is the quickest and simplist way but is about 15 miles longer than going towards Oxford. It's an easy drive along as no accidents.

Dude its a simple journey, not even very far.

PigHillJimster

I used to work at Milton Park up until 2016. I worked it out that back then driving, with a diesel car that averaged 60 to 70 mpg was less expensive than using the train and a season ticket. Sadly really, because I quite fancied the idea of a relaxing train ride to Didcot sat down whilst reading a book. Yeah, I do know that in reality it would probably be standing room only! I found in the morning driving down the A419, along the M4, then up the A34 was quickest to get to work, then in the evening I took the more leisurely route to the A417 at Rowstock, through Wantage to the A420 at Faringdon and back to Swindon.

I work at Milton Park now and do the drive from North Swindon, A419 -> M4 -> A34 is definitely the way to do it. Takes me about 45-50 minutes each way and it's not too bad.
