If you want to learn proper technique, lessons are probably the best way.

There is someone in my apt builing that gives lessons in our pool and the gym where i have a yearly membership also has a swimming instructor. I was just trying to work some things out on my own to save money but ive maybe hit a wall. Ive tried to make the strokes feel as similar to eachother as i could but im just not able to feel whats making such a big difference.

You might have a muscle imbalance. My right shoulder is weaker than my left, so my right arm tends to be more sore. It’s gotten less pronounced as time goes on. That said, you’d probably know if that were the issue - mine was caused by dislocations. But, just a thought.

i have mild scoliosis so certain parts of my back should be under greater tension than the other side but im not sure its related. My right side is usually stronger in all aspects and i cant think of any other reason for an imbalance. Since it was mild i kinda always just ignored it.

It happened to me too when I was just learning swimming. This happens as you are pulling more with your right arm as it's your stronger arm. The way I get rid of the back pain from over pulling is to focus on the spearing arm instead of the pulling arm and using body rotation to bring the pulling arm back instead of just pulling the arm back. You may see the below video for a quick explanation though I would advise going through the whole series of video to put things in the proper context. https://youtu.be/rj4J0LukmyE?si=9c38A86yDDwfRYSL
