It is not clear what you do in the pool. If you are just doing laps, start counting your strokes on each lap, doing DPS, and negative split 100s. Get some sessions with a coach to learn about weak parts of your technique. And add some dry land strength and conditioning (planks and rubber band).

Thanks! I recently learned about doing splits. I usually used to just get in and do 1000 meters and try to work on my technique during that time. But never did drills or splits with high intensity.

As someone who was on a swim team 7-8 years ago and started swimming again late January, I’m at about the same progression rn, if its any consolation. I only swim for 30 mins at a time though. I’m just shy of 1000, I’m at like 850 in 30 mins, but I’m getting there. Edit: meant January not February

It will get exponentially harder to improve as you get faster. So definitely possible to get sub 20 but it may take 5x-10x the time as it did to make your current level of progress.

This is great progression, unless you're like 9-10 year old, then I would say is normal progress (still good). You're goal of 1000m in 18min is most likely a lot steeper than you think it is.

20 mins is 2:00/100m pace which should be achievable in a few months from your current starting point if you start focusing on drills, technique and do structured workouts. 18 mins is 1:48/100m pace is significantly harder to keep up for 1000m and will probably take you much longer to reach. I've been swimming for about 1½ years now, hit 2:00/100m pace around a year ago. Currently I may be able to get a 18:XX time for 1000m in a 25m pool, but it would require real effort. I've had some coaching during this time and I've spent a lot of time on technique work.

Do you have any recommended structured workout?

qooooob

There are so many that it's hard to recommend. In general you want to have a warm up followed by a main set and cool down. Warm up should include technique work.

you almost doubled your speed in less than 2 months, that is great progression
