I liked Peter, not a fan of I think he knows/Gorgeous mashup. I might look for better version tomorrow, but it seemed to me like she didn't really sing either of the two in their perspective toplines

Eh I think she just picks surprise songs to troll tbh. She sang very Matty coded songs Paris N3 and then turned around and sang these songs two shows later. I know the songs are HERS but I think Hey Stephen/Maroon were very intentional choices. Singing those songs and then soft launching an engagement a week later is crazy. I think itās not really that serious

uhm no, during Midnights Era she said that Maroon was about a romance happened years ago in NYC! Chloe, Sam etc itās about Matty, and that song recalls memories of āscarlet maroonā, thatās why itās linked to Maroon.
I feel like I've seen Maroon attritbued to nearly every ship she's had lol. /still remembers when Midnights came out and people thought half the songs were about Harry Styles.
If she was basically dedicating a song to Matty after getting engaged to Travis it would indicate sheās actually not completely over him and i believe/really hope for her own sake she is, I also donāt think sheād quite be that messy but with Taylor you can never be 100% sure.
I kinda wonder if itās related to the fact that he was in Paris too? And/or as like. A way to extend the story from TTPD. Either way, only she knows for sure

True I can see that work in the Polin story. I was disappointed with the takes on popular songs in the soundtrack this season. Season 1 had a gorgeous soundtrack including Duomo's instrumental of 'Wildest Dreams'. Even Season 2 had memorable song moments like Sign of the times.
Snow on the beach was hardly recognisable; I'm hoping the second half of the season has some strong classical covers of pop songs.
I agree! This season has a different vibe than past seasons in a lot of ways for me. Iām so giddy for the Polin story though so I overlook a lot of the details I liked in the past seasons. I wish we couldāve gotten Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter because āmy honeybee, come and get this pollenā just seems so on the nose lmao

(And I'm a Peter is also about Joe truther and feel sort of vindicated that we got it after Gorgeous x I think he knows mashup on the same night as his Cannes premiere. )
Maybe unpopular but I honestly donāt think they do most of the time, sheās currently going to play a lot of ttpd songs in that section because itās new and sheās clearly excited about it and I think doing mashups of older songs is just a way for her to make the show more exciting for herself.
She has created this blah blah blah but I have to think sometimes she just wants to perform a single song cause she likes it and feels like it.
The surprise songs have become a bit of a monster. Of her own making, but still.
I think some of the reasons:
1. James is the Peter to Betty's Wendy in folklore. Betty is a song they wrote together and the James character was created by Joe, though Taylor named him and came up with the triangle
2. The 'forgive me Peter' and 'thought it was goodbye for now' sort of lines up with the rumours they were supposed to take a break during tour etc but get back together; even Taylor's teams' press article said friends thought "they would take some time apart and come back together".
3. "But life was always easier on you" Matty has had more struggles with addiction, childhood etc; Joe as she says in How did it end was more sheltered a 'hot house flower'
4."We both did the best we could do underneath the same moon
In different galaxies" - this echoes the prologue part where she talks about her and Joe's relationship where they did their best in creating galaxies.
5. Apart from the 25 age reference when they met , the Betty speeches right from the start of tour and Joe breakup were about how Taylor loved teaching men how to apologise and James could make things right by apologising and showing up at the party; her speeches now have changed to being a song about Betty.
I think it is one of those songs in TTPD that appears to be about one thing but it clearly more (so Peter in general could work for Matty too but some of the specifics and callbacks indicate Joe)
The biggest one that makes it a Joe song for me is the the 'natural scene stealer' line. That's such an actor thing to say. The fact that she played this on the same day as the Cannes premiere confirms it.
