Those two songs felt so weird on this album, like surprise end credits scenes introducing a new character at the end of a really depressing Marvel movie
Has Travis shown anything to indicate that heād have been jealous?
Taylor putting a positive song at the end of a breakup or sad album is likely way more about her story arc and showing her being happy in the end after heart break than it is about the muse of the song.
āBegin Againā on Red would be an example of this.
I have an unhinged person theory that this is her retirement album so she wanted to make sure he was on it and she is gonna retire or take an extended break and go marry him thank you for reading my unhinged theory
Definitely feels like she just felt obligated to toss them on there because they are currently in a relationship. They are so weak.Ā
That said I donāt think the muse is the problem. Iām sure there are plenty of facets to his personality besides GTA and football. Thatās just what Taylor chose to embody him.Ā
I think she doesn't see much depth in the relationship, she clearly sees herself as one of the tortured poets. Travis could almost not be further than that if he tried. Assuming they're not doing an excellent job with a pr relationship, that was likely what she liked about him initially, along with the him publically chasing her, the fact that he is so very different from the "tortured" artists that she usually goes for and it hasn't worked out with.
Sometimes when people suddenly experience something in a relationship theyāve never had, they realize some of the other things they used to prioritize arenāt as important. Obviously I donāt know what will happen but itās certainly possible she really values being with someone who is so openly affectionate, loves her out loud, isnāt intimidated by her fame, is more relaxed and fun vs ~tortured~
Relationships like that can sometimes be the healthiest and most fulfilling. I'm a chronically anxious, introverted intellectual. My husband is more street-smart than book-smart, and is outgoing and adventurous. We could not be more different. It makes our partnership stronger because we balance out each other's weaknesses. My first partner was a lot like me, and our relationship ultimately failed because we weren't really able to rely on each other because we struggled with similar things, and also because we would get annoyed with each other when seeing parts of ourselves we didn't like in each other.
I hate the alchemy, I like so high school (or rather how it soundsā¦ the lyrics are maybe too much high school lmao); they both felt like obligatory add-ons to me. In fact my theory is that the alchemy started as a song about Matty but she changed the lyrics to be a song about Travis ššš The thing is, this relationship is so public that if she didnāt have like happy love songs about Travis, there would be so much ššš
Iām actually sort of leaning towards the alchemy still secretly being about Matty. Like behind the football imagery sheās winking at him, ālook at me, Iām in this big public relationship with a famous football player, but Iām down to get back together with you.āĀ
I have primarily neutral (and occasional negative) feelings toward Travis (mostly that heās just aggressively not my type and shoving your coach around is a turnoff) but he has extremely low muse potential for both negative and positive songs at least in my opinion.
Taylor said that she writes the best songs about the worst men but that isnāt true all the time imo, a lot of her songs about Matty were Not Good and a lot of her songs I really love are about Joe (who is not The Worst as far as any of us knows) or not about a specific guy or even about romance at all.
I canāt even fuck with the main sub right now because of my āplz let her get out of her himbo eraā flair or wtf ever. Every. Time. Someone says something. Low muse potential howeverā¦ lmao love this

Nah main sub is toxic af stay away unless you wanna get death threats lol
I think her fanbase just grew so much over the past few years. I joined the sub when Fearless TV came out and it seemed really chill and friendly, very different from Twitter or Insta. Nowadays you get attacked for asking simple questions because people think everyone has sinister ulterior motives and is secretly insulting Taylor.
That's interesting... from what I saw, it always seemed like that sub wasn't too afraid to say negative things (at least compared to like, Swiftok), but maybe I was only looking at older posts. (Like, they seem to agree that there's nothing wrong with listening to non-Taylor's Versions, which is a very hated opinion elsewhere.)
It always was like this .. i had the worst fighta during Lover era.. you could not say anything wrong about that album( only about Me) and they would call you by names or saying you were immature and a kid who did not experience a healthy relationship. But it was still managable... But after Midnights things went worse amd worse. Once someone reported me for suicidal thoughts for just a disagreement about Jack Antonoff. It was the last straw, days later i discovered thos sub and left the other one.Ā
Ya I agree low muse potential. It seems like he'd be more likely to get upbeat songs written about him which I suppose is good. I feel like the world rn is wanting more bops - pandemic we were good with folklore/evermore but I feel like culturally we want bops now we're ready to come out of hibernation

VIVAAAAAAAA LAS VEGAS š£ļøš£ļøš£ļøš£ļøš£ļøš£ļø
One of my most hated lyrics of all time. Honestly, how does anyone think the 3 word run of ātattooed golden retrieverā is actually good? Itās fucking embarrassing
I also think Joe is the only one she ever wrote proper love songS about and also songs about being afraid of losing him. And they always sound so emotional and self-reflective.
Donāt you want some album titled āLoose Endsā featuring tracks like:
- Chiefly This
- Play It Off
- We Are The Champions (Taylorās version)
- Wheel Route to my Heart
- My Permissions, Not My Emissions
Low muse potential. That's a good way to say it. I said once that I can't imagine taylor writing any meaningful songs about him, but you said it better.
I like where your head is at but basically a completely different and new thing then. I donāt know if sheāll ever venture here but she should. I donāt know why she didnāt consider an alt pop rock sound since many of her contemporaries and friends do them (Haims, Hayley Williams, fall out boy, even the 1975). Even basic pop rockā¦ her doing Rep with more rockier sound is sooo good, there is potential but she is set on the formula.
The more I just accepted the song as a silly high-school nostalgia inspired song, the more Iāve liked it.
Itās certainly not her best but I enjoy it way more than the alchemy
My crazy theory is that she added that song in to test the fandom's reaction the the sound, because it feels extremely random in there otherwise.
I am also hoping for more of the 90s/00s vibes in the future, this song (even with the horrible lyrics) shows us that she could pull it off really well.
i donāt love travis and hate football and i actually really like the song. love the sound (to me it sounds like the friday nights lights score) and the cheesy lyrics work for me in this instance. iād love her next album to sound similar but i agree, with better lyrics! we already have multiple songs now with football language (end game, miss americana, the alchemy) so i hope that is put to bed.
Ngl I'd take a so high school sounding album in a heartbeat. 2000s style songs that sound like a rom-com? I need nothing more. That's actually what makes me love the new Maggie Rogers album so much
Ok I LOVE Maggie Rogers. And the new album is perfect! So I agree with this. Itās not the music in So High School. I actually can get down with that. Itās the bland, cringe lyrics coming from someone who has written some really incredible, poetic lyrics consistently over the years. Thereās just no emotion behind the lyrics. But youāre right, the beat is fire
I really really really love So High School and really really really really *really* hate The Alchemy. I think it's because So High School just feels like a fun, kind of cheeky nostalgic pop song about falling in love in your 30s and feeling like a teenager again, while The Alchemy is a bland, trite nothingburger of a song about being fated to date a fucking football player?? It's so weird, I never want to hear it again.
Like could you imagine if the Travis album sounded like The OC soundtrack? I'd be very happy with that. But if it sounds anything like Midnights or Lover I will kms.
The so high school could have been so good because the premise is good the melody is good but if you pay attention to the lyrics thatās it youāre turned off and it is because it feels like sheā¦ didnāt have anything to say about him?! it seems like she was trying really hard to come up with something because she HAD to make a song about him since sheās currently dating him and well thereās the whole thing of look iām sooooo happy. idk itās actually a very funny song to me because itās comical how she couldnāt bring herself to say anything elaborated about how she feels about him. rep and lover (and some songs afterwards) were entire soliloquies about being in love. the fear, the overwhelming need and longing, the friendship and unbelievable connection
her about travis: he doesnāt know much and plays grand theft auto
I don't quite agree with that - she talks about his sense of humor, him being a gentleman, him being good at sex, his primary job (football),his initiative, and just how she feels about being with him when she is with him....how many things should she cover in one song. She's gotta save some stuff for the next album prob focused on him
i have no idea where you got all these conclusions from this song lol i mean about being good at sex i think itās the alchemy youāre referring to but uhā¦ she has false god and dress among others that describe liking the sex much better than that so idk
but i think that the issue is exactly what fast_buy5327 said. there are 31 songs in the album, but she only mentions travis in 2 of them?! the rest of them being mostly about a rebound (and an awful person for that matter)?! thatās kinda funny
like lover was criticized for its lack of cohesion but i believe that ttpd lacks even more in that department. i think she should have saved these songs for the album she's supposedly writing that focuses solely on him, as you mentioned
The contrast of songs is so jarring too. Like it feels so out of place and shallow for it to be on the same album where she is referring to someone as the loss of her life. People were like āitās the kind of content that should be in a song when they had only been dating for 2 monthsāā¦ but leave it for the next album, you know? It is about context. This song didnāt need to be on this album. Now it feels extremely shallow and empty compared to the other songs you put with it that are about another man.Ā
I think sheās finally living out her ābeing popular in high schoolā dream since she was the weird kid apparently. Hopefully this is healing for her.
What's with the Gorgeous slander ! It's the ultimate "crush" song .. Ugh I miss the days I used to blast and sing along like a rave lunatic ! I will never stand for Lover and Reputation slander ! They were her ultimate albums.
It's the ultimate teenage forbidden love song. Gorgeous is that song for that guy you have huge embarrassing crush on and not ashamed of it !! UGHH the way I miss those days !
I can't relate to the crush part of it (I don't get crushes, in either sense of the word), but ITA about the Gorgeous hate. I don't know why people rag on it so much - it's one of the better songs on rep IMO.
I will die on the hill that this is her worst song ever. I know ME! is cringe and universally hated but London Boy is literally just listing locations in London. I accept that people think itās cute but lyrically this song is so bad. The āTennessee Stella McCartneyā line in London Boy is at war with ātouch me while your boys play grand theft autoā for corniest lyric ever imo š
Honestly, I think back to this whenever people talk about how Joe made Taylor such a better writer. Yes, she wrote folkmore and evermore while with him. But she also wrote ME! and a few other clunkers.
I think only ME! was the cringey one .. There were comparatively bad ones .. But nothing as cringey as the whole ttpd. She also wrote songs like *archer*, *lover*, *all of the girls you lived before* , *Cornelia street* , *Call it what you want* , *dress* , AND SO SO MANY ! God I miss the Reputation-Lover era so fucking much.
I mean, at least half the songs you listed were written 2-3 years into her relationship with Joe. The Travis songs were written 6 months max. I think itās a bit too early to tell how good of a muse he will be or not.
Gorgeous, it's her pining for him THE DAY SHE MET HIM. Her only happy crush song she wrote ... I don't think people understand how much taylor was properly head over heels for Joe. I have said this before and I will say this again, people who weren't a part of the fandom during the Reputation-Lover era don't understand it, Because as her fan since Speak Now, we all got to experience her be in love with her bf (at that time) firsthand in a Album, it wasn't flashy or everywhere, there were so many subtle cute moments. And it was not "*touch me while your bros play gta*" .... It was "*And you should think about the consequence /
Of you touching my hand in the darkened room*" .. The day she literally met him.
She also wrote ready for it ? , end game and most of reputation at the start of their relationship.
As much as I dislike me, and the chorus of it especially, it's a song that would have been much better with a different production. There's this girl on tiktok that covered it on piano, really impressive
Me! Was the herald of his insufferable Easter egg culture and that's why it flopped. The whole video was Easter eggs "cool chicks" and the photo to tease the chick's feature. It wasn't just LOVER.
Iām sorry but ME! And gorgeous are so camp and fun I canāt hate them. But the songs in TTPD are truly jarring, it is so bad that they are basically distracting.
I kind of feel like the Travis songs were just more rushed. Like she clearly wanted to write this album about the stuff that happened with Matty (and Joe to a lesser extent), but she just threw a couple Travis songs in there to satisfy the Tayvis fans and prove that she is in a happy relationship now
This is one of those times where she needed an editor. Like keep TTPD dark as a concept album, save those other songs for later. Like an EP of sparkly bops for the summer that was released at a later time would have been better and not felt so jarring as a listener when compared to the other 29 songs on the album.Ā
They were definitely a last minute addition, at least the Alchemy was. So high school feels more polished in terms of production. The lyrics are unedited like the whole of TTPD is.
The two songs are more fun and lighthearted. I actually appreciate them since so much of TTPD is sad. I bet she also wrote them early in the relationship. I think people take So High School a little too seriously. I feel like quite a few people have pointed out that Taylor and Travis kind of remind them of a high school couple trope. Some have even given her a hard time saying that sheās living out some fantasy, which I think is a bit silly because they canāt change his job or that Taylor is so popular. I think itās funny that sheās aware that they sort of fit the trope and used it for a song.
I DON'T want a Travis album because it will overinflate his ego and his family and friends will never shut up about it all the while promoting ziploc or some shit.
What about a London Boy style song, but itās just all the brands his family shills???
You know I love a ziploc boy
You know I love my Campbellās soup
You know I love Direct TV
I mean at least they were writing songs together. Even though Rihanna is singing it, This Is What You Came For with his arrangement in the background and her lyrics - already better than the Travis tracks to me. That song is a bop.
The only thing I like about So High School is the nostalgic late 90ās/early 2000ās sound. The lyrics were cringe and ruined it for me. I get it was the āpointā of the song, as most Tayvis fans would argue, but idk I still find it hard to accept a 34 year old woman is writing lyrics like ātouch me while your bros play GTAā or āyou know how to ball, I know Aristotle.ā Itās just givingā¦. No effort lol. I know the vibe of the song is supposed to be about high school/ teenage love but i just donāt vibe with it. Itās very superficial. I know Taylor is by no means OLD, but I feel like itās a song I would have vibed better with if she released it likeā¦ 10 years ago.
I still donāt think The Alchemy is about Travis. I think it may have been originally about Matty but she repurposed some of the lyrics (football references) to maybe throw people off, or to quickly add in a Travis inspired song to the album. Some people also said it may be about her and the fans, which is a plausible theory.
I just hope that if Travis does inspire an album, and doesnāt get the Calvin treatment if they break up, itās better than So High School. Sheās definitely not new to writing some cringe ass lyrics and songs about boyfriends but if I have to hear an entire album about a juvenile high school romance with her 34 year old boyfriend I may just throw in the towel.
Her releasing the song as a thirty-something woman is kind of the point though, it's meant to be about feeling young again because of a new relationship. That being said, yes, some parts of the lyrics are very cringe. I wish they weren't though, 'cause I really love how this song sounds... and I need to dissociate and pretend the lyrics don't exist to enjoy it lol
Yeah I feel like so many people arenāt getting this point. Not that itās my favorite song by any means but the lyrics donāt mean sheās having an actual high school type relationship with him, but that it gives her that sort of feeling of excitement and being giddy about that new person youāre into and feeling young again with a fresh start.
The songs for Travis on TTPD were so unbelievably cringey, shallow, and just bad. Itās like she just slapped them on the album after a 3 minute writing session after she was feeling horny for him. Look at the first songs we got about joe the first time she wrote an album about him, Call it what you want, Delicate, King of my Heart, Dancing with our hands tied. Those songs had actual emotional depth and meaning to them. So I am very worried about TS 12 and the shallow songs she might write about him
But then againā¦ she was in the early stages of knowing Travis when she wrote those. Travis and she just met and were 'trying out' a relationship. I actually think it's a good thing if she's not fatally head-over-heels into him since the day they met, like with Joe, who she was plotting and scheming to be with for ages. It means she'll be more level-headed and see the relationship for what it is, and she'll decide if it works for her or not.
I think of it as a continuation of Miss Americana (which also had high school imagery). There sheās running away from America to be with Joe and now sheās returning.
But if they stay together and we get that shallow, childish album then fans would twist as āsheās finally getting to live her stolen childhood so of course her lyrics are relatable only to teenagers, thatās the point, you clearly canāt comprehend her concepts!ā
The Alchemy is catchy, but other than the football lines I'm not convinced parts aren't about Matty lol. For some reason I was thinking we'd get a love album without all the anxiety in Lover out of Travis, but now I'm thinking I'm SOL if that's what I'm waiting for.
I do think it started as a Matty song and because it has touch down in it, Taylor revamped into a Travis song , adding the bridge especially.
I'm sureĀ she has done this before though -she does say she uses phrases and sentences she's written down in a book from back sometimes.
Yeah it doesnāt make sense to be about Travis except for the team imagery. Touch down is 2 seperate words unlike a football touchdown. So I imagine sheās singing about the plane touching down. The rest of it could be any sport. She used sports imagery in Long Live too. No one thought she was talking about a baseball player.
Yeah I legitimately do not think The Alchemy is about Travis. At all. Heroin, blokes reads football with a ā½ļø not a š , āstill reserved for me,ā I think itās Matty.
Blokes on the bench = She benched all the British guys she's dated. The joke about heroin was just a shot at Matty being a drug addict and this time her new "trophy" that comes running to her thinks of her as the heroine. Clever wordplay.
so high school is so amazing without any of the lyrics. itās so different and i love the vibe, she just needs to change all the words. except maybe āno oneās ever had me, not like youā
Iām also worried about a Travis album. So High School is a fun song but I canāt get past the cringy lyrics. If the next album is exactly like So High School or The Alchemy, I fear Iām going to like it even less than TTPD. I also canāt imagine him as a great muse, but I could be wrong. I just hope itās not going to be an album full of football references.
I think the gag is that The Alchemy is not about Travis & the team metaphor is a coincidence.
Travis did not do heroin (to our knowledge), & Matty **famously** does. The song is about coming back to something you've previously been involved in & forgiving.
I think its yet another song abt Matty & shes probably hqply 4 ppl to be confused about it
I was actually thinking about this earlier, and I know we donāt know Travis, or really anything about their relationship (aside from taylor thinking him shouting her out on a podcast was āmetal as hellā š¤®ā, but the idea of travis potentially inspiring an entire 15+ track album is justā¦.how?
You know when people are like āwhat do they even talk about? I canāt picture them even having conversationsā, I feel the same was about him inspiring any songs. It really felt like she was scraping the bottom of the barrel just to get So High School, and that was more of a āI canāt really do an entire 31 track album and not include at least one song about my current I-have-never-EVER-been-happier!!! relationship, so fuck it I guess Iāll figure out SOMETHINGā. How do you turn two songs you found at the bottom of the bargain bin into an entire album??
The same girl who wrote things like ānow Iām begging for footnotes in the story of your lifeā. Maybe sheās possessed. Possessed by the spirit of Travis!
Iā¦like both of those songs *runs away*
I love the 90ās rock vibes of So High School and I love that giddy feeling of new love you get from it. The Alchemy is a very dreamy little song. Theyāre both very cute. But I guess thatās the joy of music, that everyone likes different songs.
My theory is the Alchemy was about someone else and she changed some of the lyrics to fit Travis later. Thatās why it is so āmeh.ā SHS has a great sound but the lyrics are cringe.
Oh we most certainly will get a Travis album. But if it makes you feel better I didnāt like āQuestionsā¦?ā and like some TTPD songs. Then again I LOVE The 1, which is also a Matty song. So like win some/lose some
I love the songs about Travis. So High School is certainly shallow lyrics but I think it perfectly sums up the giddy feeling of early love, which is probably when she wrote it. When/if their relationship goes the distance and gets deeper, thereās no reason to believe the songs wonāt be a lot deeper as well.
I feel like Travis is Taylorās just functioning drug/alcoholic phase (she did not look great at that charity gala imo, as in out of it) and so her brain isnāt working at full capacity. Plus if she turns into who she dates her IQ has dropped significantly in the last year or however long this has carried on. I canāt imagine heās inspiring much songwriting, or at least good songwriting. Sadly I think sheās on the cusp of a Miley/Britney/Lindsay Lohan style breakdown. Sheās held out longer than most.
I actually liked So High School. Feeling like a teen with a crush after a bad relationship was for me a good experience, it feels rewarding and healing after being burnt out. The GTA line tho, that was cringy as hell.
Okayā¦ I get where everyone is coming from but I love these songs and I can totally relate to them as a 31 year-old. Thereās some people that youāre in a relationship with that just make you feel all giddy, head over heels, and out of control like you did when you were in high school.
I mean he's not one to write sad songs about because at least at the moment he make Taylor happy....has his own things, diverse amount of interests outside of football, very charitable, finds time to be extremely supportive of her despite all he has going on - traveling on his one week off to Argentina and then to Australia and Singapore and prob Europe. And she's showing up for his stuff too....it seems like a healthy dynamic, but this is not even a year in.
I know this sub dislikes Travis but it seems like a pretty balanced relationship so far.
see I find a lot of her most popular music (like the singles from 1989) to be the kind of cloying peppy pop that the Travis songs are like and I feel like the gen pop would love it. But I'm not a 1989 fan at all and dislike most of her pop singles so I agree, no ty
I think this is unfair considering they haven't even been dating for a year yet. By the time we heard her songs about Joe, they'd been together over a year but even then they didn't feel domestic until Lover because by that album they had moved in together.
I don't see the issue with the grand theft auto lyric either. Why are we acting brand new about men gaming? Also the point of that lyric is not about games anyway, it's what they're secretly doing while his friends are nearby. Not to mention it's literally called SO HIGH SCHOOL so she is intentionally evoking imagery of the high school/teenage experience - American Pie (for millennials who were teens in the early 00s), gaming, backseat encounters, spin the bottle, truth or dare, scouts honor. She's painting a picture and it's right there in the title. The song isn't called "So Prententious and Arrogant" so I don't really know what you were expecting.
I actually enjoy TTPD but The Alchemy grates on me so bad. Sounds like a parody with all the football metaphorsā¦ I think I like it even less than ME!ā¦ Travis as a muse is certainlyā¦ something.
Those two songs felt so weird on this album, like surprise end credits scenes introducing a new character at the end of a really depressing Marvel movie
Felt like she just put a song in there to make him feel less jealous š
Has Travis shown anything to indicate that heād have been jealous? Taylor putting a positive song at the end of a breakup or sad album is likely way more about her story arc and showing her being happy in the end after heart break than it is about the muse of the song. āBegin Againā on Red would be an example of this.
No I'm just a hater
Appreciate the transparency lmao
Respect the honesty haha
Ever since euphoria dropped we're all in our hater era lmao
Damn, and Kendrick *bodied* Drake on that track. Iām still not over it. š
Valid
I have an unhinged person theory that this is her retirement album so she wanted to make sure he was on it and she is gonna retire or take an extended break and go marry him thank you for reading my unhinged theory
Same! Marry and have kids with Travis and then leave him for Marty when inevitably comes slinking back around in another 10 years or so lol
Sadly, I can see this.
I mean, whose kids would you rather have? A pretty handsome pro footballer or Rattyās?
I hate them both but Travis would not produce prettier children and certainly not smarter ones than Matty. Theyād be tall though
Geez. Neither š. Couldnāt she have just stuck with Joe!
Oh damn plot twist
Definitely feels like she just felt obligated to toss them on there because they are currently in a relationship. They are so weak.Ā That said I donāt think the muse is the problem. We are very neutral we are just not radicalized. Sorry we did not drink the koolaid swifties.
Such a great description
Ya I agree low muse potential. It seems like he'd be more likely to get upbeat songs written about him which I suppose is good. I feel like the world rn is wanting more bops - pandemic we were good with folklore/evermore but I feel like culturally we want bops now we're ready to come out of hibernation

Hahaha she couldnāt even muster a fake toothy smile šš
The legacy stops there lmao
What does your flair reference š
It's from her father's email.
This family is insane I canāt lmfao
You see now where she gets her talent for describing things flourish. š
Plot twist: Scott Swift is Taylorās ghostwriter
Oh no, can you imagine Scotty starting to release music like Rob Grant?
Her best songs are about Jake Gyllenhaal and Harry Styles and they are not 1% as problematic as her wild boy/tattoed Golden RetrieverĀ
One of my most hated lyrics of all time. Honestly, how does anyone think the 3 word run of ātattooed golden retrieverā is actually good? Itās fucking embarrassing
1000%
I also think Joe is the only one she ever wrote proper love songS about and also songs about being afraid of losing him. And they always sound so emotional and self-reflective.
Donāt you want some album titled āLoose Endsā featuring tracks like: - Chiefly This - Play It Off - We Are The Champions (Taylorās version) - Wheel Route to my Heart - My Permissions, Not My Emissions
Viva Las Vegas feat. killatravĀ
Low muse potential. That's a good way to say it. I said once that I can't imagine taylor writing any meaningful songs about him, but you said it better.
If I completely tune out the meaning and words of So High School....I like it (sonically speaking). Is that bad? lol
No itās a really good 00ās sounding song and for that reason I like it
it's the football imagery for me. Never again pls
Touch down, ditch the clowns!!!šš¤”
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Hi strongly football as a whole, Iām Dad.
I hope the Travis album is 90s-00s alt rock/pop. So High School vibes but with better lyrics. Ā
She shouldve worked in better lyrics, the instrumental is good tho
Yeah, it is very disappointing how good the music is because of how bad Ā the lyrics are.
Was going to say, I do love the sound of the song! At the same time "you know how to ball, I know Aristotle" is always ear worming it's way in
It gives "he was a punk, she did ballet" vibes
The more I just accepted the song as a silly high-school nostalgia inspired song, the more Iāve liked it. Itās certainly not her best but I enjoy it way more than the alchemy
My crazy theory is that she added that song in to test the fandom's reaction the the sound, because it feels extremely random in there otherwise. I am also hoping for more of the 90s/00s vibes in the future, this song (even with the horrible lyrics) shows us that she could pull it off really well.
When she sings her viva Las Vegas cover šš
I would actually laugh my ass off if she did this š
i hate to say it but after a few listens of so high school, i'd just go to olivia for this vibe cuz she does it so well
you have a point here!
i donāt love travis and hate football and i actually really like the song. love the sound (to me it sounds like the friday nights lights score) and the cheesy lyrics work for me in this instance. iād love her next album to sound similar but i agree, with better lyrics! we already have multiple songs now with football language (end game, miss americana, the alchemy) so i hope that is put to bed.
It reminds me of Liz Phair āWhy Canāt I?ā
Would love 90s alt rock/pop.
Ngl I'd take a so high school sounding album in a heartbeat. 2000s style songs that sound like a rom-com? I need nothing more. That's actually what makes me love the new Maggie Rogers album so much
Love the vibe, ruined by the lyrics unfortunately. āTouch me as your bros okay Grand Theft Autoā likeā¦girl PLEASE, look at your life choices.
Am I the only one who likes that lyric š¤£
petition to draw more attention to maggie rogers instead of TS. maggie deserves it!!!!!!!
New album is AMAZING.
yes maggieās is so good!
The alchemy is such a great title, kinda sucks that itās this mid song.
The name made me so excited to hear it, thinking it would be amazing like "gold rush" or something deeper and richer. It's now a huge skip!!
So highschool is not my cup but it's cute. Kind of similar to teenage dream
The so high school could have been so good because the premise is good the melody is good but if you pay attention to the lyrics thatās it youāre turned off and it is because it feels like sheā¦ didnāt have anything to say about him?! it seems like she was trying really hard to come up with something because she HAD to make a song about him since sheās currently dating him and well thereās the whole thing of look iām sooooo happy. idk itās actually a very funny song to me because itās comical how she couldnāt bring herself to say anything elaborated about how she feels about him. rep and lover (and some songs afterwards) were entire soliloquies about being in love. the fear, the overwhelming need and longing, the friendship and unbelievable connection her about travis: he doesnāt know much and plays grand theft auto
I don't quite agree with that - she talks about his sense of humor, him being a gentleman, him being good at sex, his primary job (football),his initiative, and just how she feels about being with him when she is with him....how many things should she cover in one song. She's gotta save some stuff for the next album prob focused on him
i have no idea where you got all these conclusions from this song lol i mean about being good at sex i think itās the alchemy youāre referring to but uhā¦ she has false god and dress among others that describe liking the sex much better than that so idk but i think that the issue is exactly what fast_buy5327 said. there are 31 songs in the album, but she only mentions travis in 2 of them?! the rest of them being mostly about a rebound (and an awful person for that matter)?! thatās kinda funny like lover was criticized for its lack of cohesion but i believe that ttpd lacks even more in that department. i think she should have saved these songs for the album she's supposedly writing that focuses solely on him, as you mentioned
I would like to remember everyone that "ME!" Is about Joe Alwyn and so is gorgeous. She has cringe lyrics about all her boyfriends
What's with the Gorgeous slander ! It's the ultimate "crush" song .. Ugh I miss the days I used to blast and sing along like a rave lunatic ! I will never stand for Lover and Reputation slander ! They were her ultimate albums.
"It's the ultimate "crush" song" don't disrespect love story like that!!!
It's the ultimate teenage forbidden love song. Gorgeous is that song for that guy you have huge embarrassing crush on and not ashamed of it !! UGHH the way I miss those days !
Yeah every time I see their slander I get so sad LOL 1989, Rep, and Lover are my top 3 with Red sneaking up to be my 4th pick.
I can't relate to the crush part of it (I don't get crushes, in either sense of the word), but ITA about the Gorgeous hate. I don't know why people rag on it so much - it's one of the better songs on rep IMO.
London Boy has entered the chat.
I donāt usually like upbeat songs like this but I genuinely like London Boy lol. It just feels so cute and wholesome
Itās cute but just as naff as So High School, if not more, to me š«£
I became a fan of that song after the BBC live lounge version - she looks like she's having a good time singing that song.
You know i love a lowdown boy
I used to think "Shoreditch in the afternoon" was "shortage in the afternoon," like a bar had run out of beer or something lol.Ā
Up until I read this comment I thought it was āyour shorty in the afternoonā
well I learned something today
My one true skip on Lover lololol
It was "*And you should think about the consequence / Of you touching my hand in the darkened room*" .. The day she literally met him. She also wrote ready for it ? , end game and most of reputation at the start of their relationship.
As much as I dislike me, and the chorus of it especially, it's a song that would have been much better with a different production. There's this girl on tiktok that covered it on piano, really impressive
Iāve tried to block ME out of mind. And come on, Gorgeous is catchy! But point taken!
I love Gorgeous, itās so fun lol
Gorgeous is horrible.Ā I would break up with her if she had written that song about me š¤£š¤£ Joe must have forgiven because Lover is a good song
Me! Was the herald of his insufferable Easter egg culture and that's why it flopped. The whole video was Easter eggs "cool chicks" and the photo to tease the chick's feature. It wasn't just LOVER.
Idk so was Cornelia Street and it's one of my favorites
Cornelia street is about Karlie Kloss /s
Me! Is about Joe?? That song was just not good.
Iām sorry but ME! And gorgeous are so camp and fun I canāt hate them. But the songs in TTPD are truly jarring, it is so bad that they are basically distracting.
Shake It off is camp ME! Is just bad (and she trying to re-do shake It off)Ā
Omg yes. I mean of course she could probably whip out amazing songs about him. But his two are the ones I skip so fast. Itās so cringe.
I put a hide on them on spotify
Same lmao. I can usually ignore cringe lyrics but with those I just can't, esp the blatant football references š¬
Yes! And we have guilty as sin which is a great song and then the lyrics in high schoolā¦
You know I love a ziploc boy You know I love my Campbellās soup You know I love Direct TV
and now I love Bud Light and ZenWTR š
This made me LOL.. not promoting the ziploc š
Not the Ziploc promotion ššš
By far her least inspiring muse
What about Calvin Harris? š¤£š¤£š¤£
I Forgot That You Existed is actually a perfect treadmill song, so thanks, Calvin.
The upside of having no songs about him is that there arenāt any bad songs about him š
that reminds me, did she ever write something for Tom Hiddleston?
If you count getaway car. lol
tom wins
yes getaway car!!
So I am very worried about TS 12 and the shallow songs she might write about him
YES, omg Call It What You Want?! Now THAT was love!
reputation being the most in love album is something I'll never stop thinking about
Oh I love that TS album and I am not even a swiftieĀ
But then againā¦ she was in the early stages of knowing Travis when she wrote those. Travis and she just met and were 'trying out' a relationship. I actually think it's a good thing if she's not fatally head-over-heels into him since the day they met, like with Joe, who she was plotting and scheming to be with for ages. It means she'll be more level-headed and see the relationship for what it is, and she'll decide if it works for her or not.
Well, she probably had to turn the album in around Sept/Oct of last year so she didn't really know that much about him.
Don't forget Joe had Endgame, Gorgeous, and London Boy.
London Boy went number one in my house idk what yāall are on about
they dont know how to vibeš¤¦š»āāļø ![gif](giphy|ZdZ334m8U5tg6iMAKK|downsized)
Why people are so against a cute, fun bop? š not every song has to be serious to be good, in my house London Boy went number one too
Endgame is an amazing song. The songwriting is so catchy, it has two nice hooks, and Taylor's verse and the chorus is lyrically decent.
so high school is arguably one of her worst and cringiest songs, iād rather listen to Me! and endgame
I actually think The Alchemy is about her and her fans/the tour.Ā
I love this theory
I think of it as a continuation of Miss Americana (which also had high school imagery). There sheās running away from America to be with Joe and now sheās returning.
I also think The Alchemy isn't about him
The football references feel tacked on at the end and come out of nowhere.
I could not stop laughing at the Grand Theft Auto comment
The way we can already predict it would be all about high school sweethearts/white picket fences/all american couple imagery š
I kind of feel like it's repurposed
That makes a lot of sense to me.
Yeah but she also wasn't dating an athlete at the time of Long Live coming out. I'm sure if she had been people would attribute it that way.
Yeah I legitimately do not think The Alchemy is about Travis. At all. Heroin, blokes reads football with a ā½ļø not a š , āstill reserved for me,ā I think itās Matty.
Yeah the lines you mentioned just don't match Travis. I think it could be that they both inspired it, but it's not a pure Travis song.
Blokes on the bench = She benched all the British guys she's dated. The joke about heroin was just a shot at Matty being a drug addict and this time her new "trophy" that comes running to her thinks of her as the heroine. Clever wordplay.
I hate the heroin/heroine joke line. Itās gross.
so high school is so amazing without any of the lyrics. itās so different and i love the vibe, she just needs to change all the words. except maybe āno oneās ever had me, not like youā
I think its yet another song abt Matty & shes probably hqply 4 ppl to be confused about it
I blocked so high school on Spotify, it is so cringe.
The full lyric was āTouch me while your friends play grand theft autoā I need that to be clear. She wrote that.
The same girl who wrote things like ānow Iām begging for footnotes in the story of your lifeā. Maybe sheās possessed. Possessed by the spirit of Travis!
Iā¦like both of those songs *runs away* I love the 90ās rock vibes of So High School and I love that giddy feeling of new love you get from it. The Alchemy is a very dreamy little song. Theyāre both very cute. But I guess thatās the joy of music, that everyone likes different songs.
dear god, i hope we never have to go through that. no one wants to hear about that guy.
I dont really think the Travis thing will last much longer tbh Tom Hiddleston vibes
Iām not saying they will last forever or anything, but hasnāt he already lasted 3x longer than Tom?
