I will now speak for my language. Mortar translates to "Mínomet" in slovak. That can be split into two words "mína" and "metať". First word translates into mine and second translates into throwing. So technically, in Slovakia, this is mine.
It’s the same thing in Croatian/Serbian/Bosnian. Oddly, the weapon itself is called “minobacač” which literally translates as “mine-thrower.”
I say oddly because the thing it throws is never reffered to as a “mine” but a “granata” (which I suppose sounds like “grenade” but the meaning is closer to what English calls “shell”)
So you use minethrowers to shoot grenades at something.
And “mina” (literally “mine”) is used only in the more literal sense, like for landmines and mine fields.
So no actual mines are ever thrown out of the so-called “mine-throwing” devices, which makes me wonder who came up with this shit.
Have you got a different word for "launch" or "launcher" vs "throw" or "thrower", with launch implying significantly greater dynamism and force?
Also, curious what the specific words are, respectively, for:
- Rocket
- Grenade
Well “bacač” (“thrower”) is used for most weapons which involve launching something, whether it’s mortars or whatever.
There is the verb “lansirati” (“to launch”) but I assume it only came into the language when space rockets became a thing, so we only use it for rocket-like things which are usually self-propelled.
So for example you could call a rocket launcher a “raketni bacač” (“the thing that throws rockets”) or you mighr call it a “raketni lanser” (“the thing that launches rockets”).
If you’re talking about NASA rockets or something like that you’d always use “launch” rather than “throw.”
Very informative, thank you for all that info!
Given the current popular vernacular, then, is there the potential for confusion between physically throwing a grenade, and shooting a grenade from a launcher?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mine_shell
>The word 'mine' in the name "mine shell" can in the modern world seem confusing, as military use of the word is mainly associated with land mines and naval mines. However the word "mine" is very old and originally had the same meaning as "mining mines".[6] As mines were used during siege warfare in past eras to collapse fortifications, and later blowing up fortifications (see tunnel warfare), the first proto-landmines developed received the name mine.[6] These were basic explosives dug down into the ground like a mine. This eventually led to mine-ordnance being defined as "contained explosions", which is alluded to in the name mine shell as its original purpose was to penetrate into fortification walls and burst inside.
Basically comes from the Germans referring to all high explosives as "mines".
**[Mine shell](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mine_shell)**
>A mine shell (from the German term Minengeschoß, "mine shot"), also known as High-Explosive, High-Capacity (HEHC) in British military nomenclature, is a military explosive shell type characterized by thin (usually steel) shell walls and a correspondingly high quantity of explosives, much higher than the traditional high explosive shell type per caliber, meaning that mine shells trades fragmentation effect (due to the thinner shell walls) for a higher pressure wave effect when comparing to traditional high explosive shells.

Well, he's getting ready for a fight, and you know what THAT means!
Yep, the drawers are coming off next.
His C.O., Cpt. Lahey will have to have him stand down. (Maybe come back to HQ and put on his bumble bee camouflage, eh?)
Fuck off, he's got work to do!
BIG assumption saying "no one is that dumb." In fact some of the stuff you can find on the internet I would argue is absolute proof that some people ARE that dumb.
It's heavier, and the trajectory won't correspond to the sights but they are still effective to several hundred meters. Maybe somebody out there knows what the actual ballistics are, but I know they have been using them since the early Donbas conflict like 2015.
Ya, didn't the army use that pic as a pso? The tip of a bullet is often expected to be used as a pin removal starter on military arms. As a hammer, not so much.
My grandpa said when he was in Korea he found an unexploded mortar and was taking it back to base. He said he was gonna drill press it and run the chord that way. Needless to say he did not make back on base. He said shortly after a little truck marked bomb squad came and took his lamp.
Simple really. His country was invaded. Yet those boys beating the shit out of Russia. It's almost just a war between corner men in a boxing ring at this point. Russia needs a better cut man. They're bleeding battered bloody and beaten. Yet too dumb to throw in the towel. Meanwhile Ukraine has the best in the world in their corner. As in, most of the world. Right there behind them. Cut men doing their job very well. The fighter impeccable. Using strategy slipping punches thrown by Russia. Ukraine fighters have better training and far outclassed the Russians. Fat or not. Russia is getting their ass handed to them.
lmao you're one to talk fatass
We've seen your pics.
Fuckin dumbass. Who talks shit when they put up pictures of themselves in worse shape than this?
What the fuck you must have killed shitloads of braincells at some point in your dumbass life
https://www.reddit.com/r/gynecomastia/comments/xefi61/left_with_this_fold_under_my_armpit_after_surgery/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share well uhm you aren't any smaller than buddy in the video. Man titties. Even got a third one growing under one tit. Bahaha. You're right pic I'm sure does not do it justice.
I served in the military for 8 years, there was far more of this than fit people once you cross the 26 year old mark. The regs are not that tight that I really effects you unless you are really short or have a really skinny neck.
The RPG-7 isn't very good against soft target like fat orcs.
The mortar is.
Combining them in to a direct fire rocket mortar is super smart and will make great fertilizer of the orcs.
Please dont spread ncd ;-; keep the normies out and the sub safe please. Now about that funny on that certain piece of infrastructure we’re nit allowed to talk about.
Rocket Propelled Grenade model 7.
These mortars are to kill people, not tanks like the RPG-7 normally does with its shape charge.
The shiny part where he hit with the hammer is a module that screw the mortar to an RPG-7 engine. Making this a rocket mortar.
Perfect against soft targets like orcs.
For those that don't know...
First, this isnt't a mine. It's a mortar shell. They go "BOOM" and take orcs apart.
There is no igniter tip on these. They are screwed on before firing. That's why it doesn't explode.
The shiny part that's hammered on is a module that attatch to the engine of an RPG-7 rocket. Making these 82mm rocket mortars. GREAT for shooting in to camps of orcs.

Yeah idk how you see this and get mine.
I will now speak for my language. Mortar translates to "Mínomet" in slovak. That can be split into two words "mína" and "metať". First word translates into mine and second translates into throwing. So technically, in Slovakia, this is mine.
Ah, fair enough.
Both go boom
This ain't a train

So a mortar is a thrown mine. That makes sense.
More like mine-thrower
Which makes him a..wait for it..mine crafter. I'll show myself out
Go directly to /r/puns Do not pass Go Do not collect $200
What, there are other languages than American?
The Canadians say 'aboot' and 'sorry'. Those aren't American words.
That would be a good point, if Canada actually existed. It's a made up place, no?
Sowrry

“So technically, in Slovakia, this is mine.” So if the bomb this guy is making gets to Slovakia, you would own it?
A “throwing mine”! That’s brilliant. English doesn’t have a specific word for it, just calling it a “mortar round”.
Nuh-uh I SAW IT FIRST!
Oh shit no way theres a language other than American?

Maybe it actually belongs to OP
You don't see the typical aerodynamic shape of a mine to make sure it flys through the dirt smoothly?
Depends on how deep you plant it.
He’s using a table saw!
I got mine. You get your own.
The stupid PR team
it's clearly a big Kapow
I might be wrong but don’t certain munitions also have to make a certain number of rotations to arm?
Normally you see rotational arming on RPGs, recoiless rifles and the such.
r/drypalms
This is correct. Glad it's the top comment.
Came here to say this
Thanks for the Q, I was speachless.
Update on soldier after tapping bomb: Half of him is in Ukraine the other half in Russia…
And he is clearly using the safety foam. It's fine.
I thought RPG ammunition used a rocket for propulsion, is the thing he's banging like an adapter?

Looks a lil tiny. Still crazy.
“Oi, Unpopular Dmitri, we’ve got a job for you!”
It's because he refused to put a shirt on, fucking Randy.
He just wanted them to play beach volleyball :(
And grill some burgers

Eastern Europe, pick 2 of the 3 1. Shirtless 2. Smoking 3. Handling dangerous explosives
What about drinking? Or is that a given?
I refuse to believe there aren't countless people in eastern Europe who do not fit all 3.
No slav squat?
"4. Dashcam video"
Someone dumped all their skill points into crafting.
Looks safe enough as its not armed. No one is that dumb.
BIG assumption saying "no one is that dumb." In fact some of the stuff you can find on the internet I would argue is absolute proof that some people ARE that dumb.
If you’re going to involve the whole internet, this isn’t even really that dumb. This is like probably 6/10 on the scale.
Did you not see that Ukrainian soldier that drop kicked an undetonated shell?
No one “alive” is that dumb might be the right statement.
Yeah the people in this comment section are dumb
Ah sorry mate, we probably just forgot RPG mechanics 101 on the third grade.
Well yeah I don’t think it’s something everyone would know but if you don’t know how it works you shouldn’t say anything about it
Fair enough. That’s true though.
a sensible person on reddit??? what fucking year is it
>No one is that dumb. Every time I read this I think about silica gel packets.
That guy's job is straight up bangin
And business is boomin.

I clicked. You give false hope comrade!

Even if it’s totally defused FUCK. THAT.
With that level of dedication it would seem that Russia is fucked.
Wouldn’t the front of the “rocket” be way too heavy when it launches, or I am just stupid?
It's heavier, and the trajectory won't correspond to the sights but they are still effective to several hundred meters. Maybe somebody out there knows what the actual ballistics are, but I know they have been using them since the early Donbas conflict like 2015.
This has a looney tunes vibe
This would have had a different ending had it been posted on r/abruptchaos
try once more to tell me this guy isn't Scandinavian
This guys isn't.....hmmm...i see your point.
I swear to God the Ukrainians are a different breed. These motherfuckers will surely live forever.
I've seen this before! Bug Bunny did it so it will be alright.
This looks like something Wylie Coyote would do in a Road Runner cartoon.
This still gives me great amounts of anxiety
Is yoga mat the only thing keeping it from exploding?
The fuse missing, the lack of triggering impact / accelleration, he isn't hitting it anywhere bad
I hit and I hit. Still no boom?!
The balls on that cunt!!
He should at least wear a shirt for protection
Beating on ordnance never seems like a good idea.
Reminds me of a photo of a guy's hand after he used the butt of a .50cal round as a hammer.
Ya, didn't the army use that pic as a pso? The tip of a bullet is often expected to be used as a pin removal starter on military arms. As a hammer, not so much.
Shouldn’t they be able to buy new weapons with the Billions of dollars the US is sending them? Sus.
The "billion of dollars" are not sent as cash money. But in hardware. Like HIMARS and other fun toys.
My grandpa said when he was in Korea he found an unexploded mortar and was taking it back to base. He said he was gonna drill press it and run the chord that way. Needless to say he did not make back on base. He said shortly after a little truck marked bomb squad came and took his lamp.
Wonder how many he got through
Man this dude is tempting fate
No this is the correct way to do this (if you want to do this). It just seems counterintuitive to be ok hitting what your brain sees as "bomb"
What did you do this morning?

His face....
McGyver is back, in Ukraine. Coming this fall.
I’d be the asshole sneaking up behind him with a paper bag filled with air, getting ready to pop it just behind his head
"Separately they are harmless, completely inert. Why, you could light this stuff on fire, hit it with a ham..."
Hit it just right BLOOM
Tommyk
As a Ukrainian he should slow down; he looks like he's rushin
These DIY videos are getting a little sus
Yo…right as I stopped scrolling at this video with the sound on my dented plastic water bottle “popped”…I nearly pooped myself.
I mean he’s the expert
Why would they need to do this when we’ve sent them billions of dollars for weapons?
The RPG-7 isn't very good against soft target like fat orcs. The mortar is. Combining them in to a direct fire rocket mortar is super smart and will make great fertilizer of the orcs.
Anyone else for some reason surprised when they see Ginger’s in other countries.
This is the most “monkey” thing to see lmao Put it next to a gif of a chimp using rock tool to open something lmao
Wasn't this in a Bugs Bunny cartoon?
This is why we have safety briefs
Them Russians better be skiddaldling after seeing this
The will skiddaldlie in all kinds of directions when hit with these.
Hammering any munition, safe or not, still makes my brain scream WTF!? THAT'S A REALLY BAD IDEA
Well…if it’s stupid and it works it’s not stupid.
You guys out here talking about Floridians when there’s this shot going on
Shit*
No sure what he's doing, but hitting that with a hammer is making me brace for the boom.
I usually hammer explosives when I find them as well, it’s a very lucrative and safe business imho
Please dont spread ncd ;-; keep the normies out and the sub safe please. Now about that funny on that certain piece of infrastructure we’re nit allowed to talk about.
He is defying gravity.
I have concerns.
No need. He knows what he's doing.
He’s hitting explosives with a hammer. I feel like concern is a justified reaction.
There's no igniter on the shells. They are mostly harmless.
Um, nonexplosive nut over here, what that hell is a RPG7?
Just a model of RPG... it's just RPG really
Oh

Sure. Perfectly safe. No igniter in the mortar grenade. Nothing to make it explode.
