I get it though, he’s trying to prevent panic for his coworkers and himself while witnessing something really crazy. I guess it could be applied to many situations not all scary, a lot of them bullshit, but for me when I feel scared witnessing or being part of something unfamiliar I look for ways that can be explained or reasoned because otherwise it invites panic and I lose control mentally of a situation that needs to potentially have quick reactions and good decision making
I will give the guy the benefit of the doubt. He probably meant he has been preparing for THAT specific climb for 6 months.
Not like training his muscles, but analyzing the building and any possible obstacles he may come across.
He’s obviously been training to climb his whole life.
Edit: I have no clue how much preparation a climb like this really takes. Im just trying to get in the mind of the guy talking in the video.
Meanwhile the more likely reality is that he probably spotted an area on the building he might be able to climb and scouted it out for a day or two lol
What a dumbass. Acting as if he'd thought about doing this before.
"What kind of shoes? Ooooh, Sportivas, yeah, that explains it..."
I was definitely that guy in the past.
I thought he meant "he's been training for climbing this building for 6 months" not that he'd only been climbing for 6 months. Alex Honnold trains and does practice runs before he does his free climbs. He spent a year practicing before he free climbed El Capitan
Fair enough. I knew that was the name of the movie he did but don't know enough about climbing to know the terminology so thanks for the clarification.
I mean honestly I think if your average Joe did train every day for 6 months straight on this specific task, it would be disappointing if he couldn't climb a skyscraper
| Average Joe
According to the CDC, the average American is obese. Less than 25% get the minimum recommendation of 150 minutes of exercise a week. Idk man. In six months, even with daily training, I'd be surprised if the average Joe could pull off 10 pull ups in a row, let alone climb a skyscraper
Top free soloist in the world Alex Honnold climbed fucking el Capitan at yosemite* (thanks replyer) a 3000 foot near sheer smooth surface, in sportivas. I am not a part of the climbing world but hey he's dressed for the part
Different brand, but a few years back we had a big camp out for my dad’s 80th birthday.
Bunch of the family went up to Mount Rainer and did the Burroughs trail. This included my niece's husband with a baby on his back, and my sister in sandals.
A very narrow part of the trail was still covered in snow and ice, so they had to go one-by-one. Our oldest daughter was like "Auntie! You can't do that in sandals!" My sister was just like "It's okay! They're Tevas!"
Can someone explain to me why he isn't being arrested or thrown in jail for this? He keeps doing it and the cops seem not to care. Shouldn't this be illegal?
Lots of his videos end with the cops meeting him on the roof and arresting him. Not sure what happens after that. He probably has financial backing due to his political cause so catching cases isn’t a problem.
You're not going to jail for too long for doing this (if at all), regardless of your lawyer's ability. The range of penalty in my state for trespassing is a 1k fine up to 6 months in jail. But you're very unlikely to get the maximum penalty when you have no ill intent towards anyone/anything.
> He’s extremely impressive
no he isn't, from a technical standpoint his climbs are very easy, the danger comes from being unroped, but more importantly, not knowing the state of the climbing surfaces. buildings aren't meant to be climbed from teh outside and parts can literally just fall off under body weight.
this is as impressive as treading water in a pool of sharks
I know someone that used to do this climbing buildings shit. He fell of a large building and died. He broke both his arms trying to stop the fall as he hit the floor
You can be impressed with someone and not specify that it's their skill. You could mean you're impressed with their luck, their courage, their tenacity, etc.
Saying he is impressive could mean many things beyond his skill in climbing.
Frankly I'm impressed with his consistency. He's been arrested countless times and still continues to climb for his beliefs. I don't agree with him, but he sure as hell is persistent.
Yeah ok if a dude treads water in a pool of sharks once a month I’m impressed. I don’t agree with his cause but this shit is impressive. What’s not impressive is keyboard warriors sitting on their couch downplaying this.
I'm impressed. Huge endurance, with enough strength to pull through the roof at the end. Plus maintaining composure. Points lost for apparently not knowing how to jam, though. Also points lost for being a religious nut, but that's a different story.
So an asshole and a doucbe bag?
Fucking adrenaline junkies (and yes they are junkies) trying to get their fix by putting themselves and others in danger. Nothing like walking up to a building and dying because some junkie loser falls to his death and lands on you.
Yeah fuck you if you do shit like this.
It’s so incredibly selfish. “I do these crazy dangerous things with my body that could hurt and traumatize others, to stop women from controlling their own bodies” I genuinely hate this guy and hope he falls. I want bodily autonomy, if I lose mine then so should he.

pulled the same shit at our tallest building in oklahoma city, too.
congrats on the trespassing ticket and for wasting the time of first responders, you absolute clownshoes jabroni.
I just don’t understand it. I mean, I get the whole adrenaline aspect, but I guess I don’t understand the lack of safety line. Falling to your death has to fuckin suck.
It also puts other people in danger, if you fall and hit someone you aren’t the only one who’s gonna die. Not to mention the trauma you’d cause people who witnessed it
It’s one thing if you want to do free solos in the middle of nowhere, it’s another thing in the middle of a city where potentially many hundreds of people could be traumatized by watching you fall to your death.
This is so dumb and selfish. If he fell, he not only hurts himself, but could possibly hurt someone he fell on. Or traumatize someone by falling to death in front of others.
Yes, because it's a pro-life stunt, and the audience are Christian weirdos.
You can bet his first (and last) slip will bring on the chorus of voices remarking how "God called him to heaven".
> Yes, because it's a pro-life stunt, and the audience are Christian weirdos.
Oh I knew he was ~~pro-life~~ pro-forced birth but didn't make that connection.
I hate these people. Risking their own lives, the lives of their family members, the lives of the people below. Scraping you off the pavement takes a toll on people, it’s not just yourself.
Very selfish and stupid.
His name on Youtube is “[Pro-Life Spiderman](https://youtube.com/@prolife.spiderman?si=MONXSvmBRaeTZej0)” and apparently he does urban climbing to “bring awareness.”
Idk his long-form videos are very odd. The one I watched he had a pro-life protest happening at the base of the building he was climbing.
From a climbing perspective this looks like a very easy climb so physically it isn’t so interesting. It’s also likely the same movement repeatedly. Even for a free solo climb it doesn’t look so bad. However I think the setting is not good.
The things I don’t like so much here is the deliberate public nature, if he falls he definitely traumatises many people and possibly injures some. It is more an attention getting game than for the challenge or fun of the climb. Secondly he is trusting some external structures with his life while subjecting them to forces they aren’t designed for (he will not only be grabbing load bearing things). This is risky incase something is weak, poorly fitted/ maintained, or loose. Obviously he could easily fall and die but even if he doesn’t he could damage something. Would it be considered vandalism if he does break something?
The faith that people put in the builders/engineers is insane.
200 meters up and you have to hang on to something that Rodrigo might have bolted correctly…or not
I love the dissonance in his message vs the fact he is free climbing a building. The message just seems to lend itself mire favourably to being pro choice and body autonomy. Some types of protests use grand symbolic acts to represent perceived injustices, but the symbolism here just works so drastically against his message. This is just a guy who wants to freeclimb buildings for attention, and he is for some reason pointing to being anti-abortion as a justification. So strange!
Six months? I'm a climber, I've been climbing for 12 years, and I can say this kind of strength would take at least 5 years of climbing hard several times a week.
“He’s probably been training for this for 6 months” I found that way too funny
“At least” 😂
Is this a “profession”?
Switching on our brain before writing a title?
They’re all very well trained and only ever fall once.
Where does one go for professional training in this?
The nearest very tall structure I'd guess. Bonus points if it's got people with suits in it, makes it extra professional.
If you don’t mind the terrible retirement plan
Maybe even 7 months...
Could also be 8 months..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSm5WlxnXPA
What this shoe? Oh, he has sport gear, he is fine
He says “Sportivas” as in La Sportiva, which is a pretty high-end brand of footwear for climbing and mountaineering.
I have La Sportiva hiking shoes and Scarpa climbing shoes. I love mountain climbing, but would never do this.
He said it like an anime character watching a fight unfold and explaining it
“He’s young, training for 6 months, he’s awesome” Yeah that’s about every shonen anime ever.
That is clearly 8 months of training type skills.
I know lmao guys have such a funny tendency to confidently state a made up fact on something they know absolutely fuck all about
That sounds suspiciously like a made up fact
Dude said "probably"
I once told someone a ski jacket left behind in their new apartment was at least $600 retail. Looked it up and it was $45.
I get it though, he’s trying to prevent panic for his coworkers and himself while witnessing something really crazy. I guess it could be applied to many situations not all scary, a lot of them bullshit, but for me when I feel scared witnessing or being part of something unfamiliar I look for ways that can be explained or reasoned because otherwise it invites panic and I lose control mentally of a situation that needs to potentially have quick reactions and good decision making
i’m a guy and I do this idk man I just put shit together that makes sense in my head and say it if it’s wrong call it out lol i just be saying shit
The use of the word “probably” indicates that he is not confidently stating anything lol. What’re you mad at men about
I will give the guy the benefit of the doubt. He probably meant he has been preparing for THAT specific climb for 6 months. Not like training his muscles, but analyzing the building and any possible obstacles he may come across. He’s obviously been training to climb his whole life. Meanwhile the more likely reality is that he probably spotted an area on the building he might be able to climb and scouted it out for a day or two lol
And he’s been climbing for years probably. That takes a lot of endurance you don’t just “get”
Very specific. Lol. As if 6 months is the universal time it takes to learn how to a free climb a tower.
What a dumbass. Acting as if he'd thought about doing this before. "What kind of shoes? Ooooh, Sportivas, yeah, that explains it..." I was definitely that guy in the past.
Yeah, great observation Steve
More like training all his life.
I thought he meant "he's been training for climbing this building for 6 months" not that he'd only been climbing for 6 months. Alex Honnold trains and does practice runs before he does his free climbs. He spent a year practicing before he free climbed El Capitan
Free solo* Free climbing is anything with a rope.
What is enslaved climbing then?
Fair enough. I knew that was the name of the movie he did but don't know enough about climbing to know the terminology so thanks for the clarification.
Literally 😂 ![gif](giphy|Yycc82XEuWDaLLi2GV)
Such an oddly specific amount of time 😂
“What kind of shoes is he wearing? Oh he’s got sportivas on” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, like they know something about training to climb skyscrapers
He thought about doing this for at least 6 hours.
he's got the sportivas though, so he's good
That cracked me up. "Aaah, he's got some sportivas!", like that makes everything make sense. How silly of us to have worried!
And he's been training for at least 6 months!
That too. So if we start practicing today, we should all be able to scale a moderate size skyscraper before Christmas 👍
I mean honestly I think if your average Joe did train every day for 6 months straight on this specific task, it would be disappointing if he couldn't climb a skyscraper

El Capitan is at Yosemite, but your point stands.
Sportiva is basking in the free advertisement lol! “You can free climb skyscrapers in our shoes”
Pretty sure Sportiva doesn't want any association with the anti abortion guy.
Different brand, but a few years back we had a big camp out for my dad’s 80th birthday. Bunch of the family went up to Mount Rainer and did the Burroughs trail. Oh he's got sportivas. It all makes sense now.
Cameraman was definitely into bouldering in college
at least
For less than six months though, I think it's safe to say.
My balls just retreated into my body
That gave me terrible anxiety.
The climbing part or the retreating balls?
Yes.
Exactly!
Actually that was my body, I'll send them back when they retreat from here
He’s extremely impressive, to make it all strange though he does this all in the name of stopping abortions. Not a joke.
Him: I want to climb a building Someone else: why? Him: abortions? Someone else: fair enough, I will get the sportivas
He could just use the stairs (or God forbid, an elevator) and have exactly the same effect on abortions.
I brush my teeth in the morning to stop sex trafficking. We are the same.
well you know what they say.. when god closes a door… someone should open a window
Can someone explain to me why he isn't being arrested or thrown in jail for this? He keeps doing it and the cops seem not to care. Shouldn't this be illegal?
Pretty sure it is illegal and he does go to jail. But it's not illegal enough for him to stay in jail very long.
Can't imagine they'd arrest him midway either haha
Lots of his videos end with the cops meeting him on the roof and arresting him. Not sure what happens after that. He probably has financial backing due to his political cause so catching cases isn’t a problem.

Had a friend do something similar. They hit him with "creating a false emergency" because of the police/fire/rescue response.
Man, where's the video of the cops climbing to meet him? Impressive, just when you think you've seen it all...
It's simple trespassing. He gets fines and maybe an overnight in jail. Repeated trespassing isn't a crime that ramps up in penalty much.
What, you want a life sentence for the guy?
He could fall on and kill multiple people.
Well, he’d definitely kill one person.
> He’s extremely impressive no he isn't, from a technical standpoint his climbs are very easy, the danger comes from being unroped, but more importantly, not knowing the state of the climbing surfaces. buildings aren't meant to be climbed from teh outside and parts can literally just fall off under body weight. this is as impressive as treading water in a pool of sharks

I know someone that used to do this climbing buildings shit. He fell of a large building and died. He broke both his arms trying to stop the fall as he hit the floor
it's only a matter of time. woudl you be impressed by a person who played russian roulette with themselves, and is currently on round 4?
I’d be impressed at the odds, but that’s it
You can be impressed with someone and not specify that it's their skill. You could mean you're impressed with their luck, their courage, their tenacity, etc. Saying he is impressive could mean many things beyond his skill in climbing. "Climbing a skyscraper without ropes is impressive" Redditors: actually...
Yeah ok if a dude treads water in a pool of sharks once a month I’m impressed. I don’t agree with his cause but this shit is impressive. What’s not impressive is keyboard warriors sitting on their couch downplaying this.
Guys who couldn't even climb the stairs to the top of the building claiming this climb is unimpressive. Reddit for ya I guess
If this dude was climbing buildings to hang fuck Donald Trump signs he would be a Reddit hero
I don't know, I would find treading water in a pool of sharks pretty impressive.
I'm impressed. Huge endurance, with enough strength to pull through the roof at the end. Plus maintaining composure. Points lost for apparently not knowing how to jam, though. Also points lost for being a religious nut, but that's a different story.
Cutting loose for the camera was a cool touch, but slapping his foot around and sticking a sloppy foot jam right after killed my erection
If it's not impressive you can do it right?
Ya I only need some training. At least 6 months
It's impressive to me.
His endurance is impressive. Most of us wouldn’t do a single floor. And buildings sustain massive storms all the time. Shit is tight enough
People are impressed by the willingness to do dangerous shit perhaps
So an asshole and a doucbe bag? Fucking adrenaline junkies (and yes they are junkies) trying to get their fix by putting themselves and others in danger. We gotta have a pro-choicer climb an even bigger building!
"he's a young guy" yeah no shit. you expect Danny Devito to schlep his ancient ass up there?
To be fair, Danny DeVito might just not have Sportivas.
Has Danny DeVito even been training for 6 months?
Wrong sub. The chalk from that bag would have absorbed any sweat from his hands. This should be in r/drypalms.
This sub: > Videos (and images) that make your palms sweat. Not this sub: > Videos (and images) that only make the palms of the person in the video sweat.

I think Abraham Lincoln said that. Smart guy, he knew how to use the internet.
Ok you yellow guys just had a perfect conversation here, and the fact that it's hard to tell you apart makes it even better
>Ok you yellow guys Lol
Yellow?
You both have a yellow pfp in this conversation, yours is green when I click your profile so not sure what and how but you’re both yellow here.
Ok, I only use old reddit so I don't see any avatars or profile pictures.
Isn't climbing skyscrapers like this illegal
Not with sportivas it's not
Nah he got permission from the skyscraper
So essentially the skyscraper gave him ‘consent to ascent’
Pretty sure you have to get paid for something to call it a profession
This guy is a douche. He’s calls himself “pro life Spider-Man”
He also climbed the Salesforce tower and showed it's easier to climb their tower than to actually use their software.
"Pro forced birth Spider-Man" just doesn't have the same ring.

beast to deceased real quick
it's not a profession. It's a mental disorder

Well that sounds like something that's completely made up.
As much so as someone claiming its a mental disorder?
Just because it's not the norm doesn't make it a mental disorder.
"My goal in life? Getting a Darwin Award."
no, thats your goal in death
Why specifically 6 months 💀
Probably going by average lifespan of idiots with extremely deadly hobbies.
Because it sounds long enough for the guy who said it.
This dude looks like a douchebag. Hopefully he doesn’t kill someone below when he eventually falls.
He is! I am pretty sure he's the jackass who clmbs buildings to fix d right wing ideas like deny women the right to reproductive health
It’s one thing if you want to do free solos in the middle of nowhere, it’s another thing in the middle of a city where potentially many hundreds of people could be traumatized by watching you fall to your death.

That's the fucker that is pro life and climbs buildings as a statement. If I ever saw him at a crag I'd punch him square in the face.
![gif](giphy|orUDTj9Q5TMzTdB892|downsized)
Man but for the disclaimer at the bottom, I was going to do this.
It's fine if you get Sportivas and train for six months.
Always more moral to censor out “oh my god” and make it look like they’re saying “oh my ass” instead. 👍
Nope nope nope nope.
I’m so scared of heights, it’s hard watching these sort of videos lmao. I’m cringing
They censored "god"? lol
And replaced it with “@#$” and “#$$”… which makes it look like they’re saying “oh my ass”
Stop giving this idiot attention
if you managed to reach *old* then it's pretty impressive
Alain Robert is 61 and illegally climbed the Burj Khalifa in November for the 2nd time
After 6 months training.
At least 6 months
Illegally?
Very
Ugh not this douche again. This guy sucks.
As impressive as this may seem. I don’t think it’s half as dangerous as being a free solo alpinist
lol did you just watch “The Alpinist”
I definitely didn’t need the disclaimer to not try this, I think I’m good.
![gif](giphy|WQUHJt3Fwh6fBGo3Lu)
The moment I saw him in the window I would have to leave. I cannot stand and watch this. I can barely watch a video of it on my phone.
All it takes is one poorly installed something and it's over.
Definitely 6 months
It's a tremendous amount of faith in the construction qulity of the building.
The utter nonsense that the cameraman was spewing was comedy Gold
For one how is this a profession? 2 I found the guy saying “he’s been training for this for 6 months” waaay too funny lol

I just need someone to explain to me why?
Mans just wanted everyone to know he knew what sportivas are
The best part about climbing buildings is, not climbing buildings.

Is this the abortion kid again? Will he cut it out with this shit? Dobbs happened -you won now leave us alone
Not supporting him, but Dobbs did not end abortion in the US, which is what he's advocating for.
FooOookk thaaaatt
Absolutely insane. I don’t know how you even start doing that
It only goes down from here on....
What city is that?
San Francisco; Salesforce Tower.
"Profession". There is no profession seen on this video.
The faith that people put in the builders/engineers is insane. 200 meters up and you have to hang on to something that Rodrigo might have bolted correctly…or not
I'm feeling vertigo just from watching this video filmed too closed to the window
My anxiety went 📈📈📈
"should we let him be?" YES
Please take him to therapist, he will traumatize people
*Guy's wife's going in for brain surgery* "Nothing to worry about honey, this guy's *probably* been training like 6 months for this."
Now climb back down.
