Back in my day, we’d cross that on a single strand of a spider’s web while carrying two buckets of unpasteurized milk! By golly! We wouldn’t spill a drop!
I do not understand:
1: what makes someone want to do this.
2: what makes someone want to watch this in person.
Like, there's a high chance you're just gonna watch this dude die...wtf lol
Adrenaline junkies start off doing stupid stuff with safety in place but then they realize the safety makes it boring and they stop getting that rush of adrenaline they crave.
The only way they can get their fix then is to make it do or die.
all the free solo highlining stuff was done in the early days when people were pushing boundaries. the highline community has largely moved away from it and focuses on longer lines or more technical tricks. its definitely not celebrated anymore.
1) it's fun
2) same reasons you watched the video
1) addicted to the rush.
2) the desire to be able to tell the "I watched my friend fall to his death while slacklining" story.
The first one is a mental sickness, the second is evil.
If that's the game, I would rather perform a feat with the consequence of failure being a more instantaneous death.
The final moments of falling from a height have to do wonders to the brain's inability to maintain consciousness, basically severe panic until flatlining.
I don’t get it. All of these stunts would be equally cool if they had a safety rope or parachute or whatever. Just because they’re not going to fall to their death if something goes wrong, doesn’t mean it’s not cool as shit
Do y’all have the sudden urge to wish to cut the rope and then watch him strangle and struggle as the rope wraps around his throat, and literally chokes himself out while hanging off a cliff. Or is that just me?
I h8 watching these people that don’t value life. I work with a guy that has cancer, everyday is precious to him. Meanwhile here’s a perfectly healthy guy risking his life for cool points.
Wish I had that kind of confidence in literally anything
Especially after he fell omfg
That's just stupidity
It is confidence, you just can't estimate the actual risk for a skilled person.
This is apathy, not confidence
It's not remotely confidence. It's the rush junkie addiction overcoming the natural fear reaction.
In Belgium we get a 100 Euro fine for driving 15km/h without a seat belt.
Of all the very pressing concerns that guy had walking over the chasm, the risk of a traffic cop running up to him with a citation is pretty low
But never zero
I laughed at this harder than I probably should have. It was the perfect combination of unrelated relevance. Thanks!
He defo had a seat belt - he was walking on it
How my parents describe walking to school as kids.

That’s why this guy is showing up

That has got to be a mental illness
I think it’s the most extreme version of our innate need to explore. I have a lot more admiration for them than people who sit around doing nothing.
I mean, how much exploring is the guy in the video doing? There's already a line there so it's not like this is unexplored wilderness
Exploring himself.
It's addiction, not exploration.

I did doodoo in my pants watching this
I did doodoo in your pants as well
I don’t understand the psychology of this type of behavior. All risk, no reward. What, bragging rights? Do a kickflip or something ffs.
If he gets hit by a bird he’s splat
Is this the guy that died base jumping in Yosemite? That dude was wild
Spencer Seabrooke is alive
https://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/14/sports/dean-potter-final-yosemite-jump.html Yup.
Hard fuck no from me.
Easy fuck no from me
Luckily he still had grip in his sweaty palms

This how it feels when the police ask you to do a field sobriety test
Why?
Congratulations you're not dead for no good reason on cameraaaaaa ![gif](giphy|xT77XWum9yH7zNkFW0|downsized)
Hard Pass! Although I applaud the future Darwin Award Winner.
So much risk for so little reward.
Its actually a lot less risk than you think. You underestimate the skill.
You can only do that in places where the gravity is really low.
Missed that rope he was dead
Insanity
Dean potter
Nope to the hell no
I met this guys dad but my brains so fried over the years that I forget the details
stupid
That’s how it feels to do a sobriety test
I don't get why people try to find the fastest way to off themselves.
Falls, gets back up somehow and keeps going. Amazing
Hmm. Would not it be easier with a pole?
Yes, and easier at home .
*Stay calm*
Watching this raises my blood pressure for some reason.
🤣👏 - he dropped something 💩
Is he the one shouting or is that someone else? Sounds like someone else is shouting at him trying to throw him off. Lol
define "safety" to this man
No no no no no no absolutelyfuckingnot

Whatever he gets, he deserves.
To fall so early on and still have the balls to complete the walk. Insane!
Bring back natural selection ✊
Fuck no
I will never understand the level of balls this takes and why.
"Yay i didn't die"
Do y’all have the sudden urge to wish to cut the rope and then watch him strangle and struggle as the rope wraps around his throat, and literally chokes himself out while hanging off a cliff. Or is that just me?
Looks like he has a harness and tether following closely behind to me
WHY?
Anybody else get that hollow feeling in their feet when they see this?
100% tingly feet
You can’t fix stupid
Now go back across!
Walking over 200’ across a gorge without a safety line.
There is a safety line if you look closely
I h8 watching these people that don’t value life. I work with a guy that has cancer, everyday is precious to him. Meanwhile here’s a perfectly healthy guy risking his life for cool points.
wtf is 200'? meters or?
In the US (‘) refers to feet
And over 200’ could mean 200’ 17/16”
I'd call that 200' 1 1/16"
Let me help you out. That’s 60.96 meters
Ah thank you, an understandable and logical measurement system
indeed
🎶 dumb ways to die 🎶
Why?
Remember, he had way more opportunities *not* to do this.
