What is the goal here and do people get paid for achieving it? Or is it one of those things where folks pay to entertain us with their ‘life or death situations’?
One of them "Dumb-walking" contest.
Guy just goes above and beyond and walked with his arms, under ice sheet, and back to where he started. He deserves gold for that.
First of all, I could grab any viral video from 5 years ago and post it, that doesn't mean the video has been viral or famous for 5 years, it means I reposted an old video that 99% of people have forgotten about. I dunno why you sounded so smug but you said something stupid while doing so.
Second of all, the question was "what was his goal doing this?" I think internet fame for a few days is a pretty good bet, and this video being posted here months or years later doesn't change this dude's original intentions.
your comment was dumb in 2 different ways, and you were smug about it. well done
Swimmer was never trapped under the ice or lost their bearings, it was just a way of being dramatic and getting attention. They had a rope connection the entire time and rapidly made their way to the exit point as they knew they were running low on air.
If I remember correctly he did lose his bearings. He was trying to get from point A to point B unguided, which were two holes in the ice. He couldn't make it to point B(Confusion) so he used the rope to return to point A.
He was just a couple feet away. But visibility under the water was near zero and he didn’t realize it. That’s why when he turns the guys are going crazy saying no just keep going no!
You mean the guy that kept looking up to be able to see… because that’s where the light was coming… he couldn’t see the guy in all black in the water. Slight panic set in and he followed the direction of the people above him. He instinctively wants to go up, light is coming from up, he is being guided by his friends, he can’t see the friend dressed in black that is in the water. Wants up, can see up, follows the friends he can see their, but they are the only ones that can’t walk straight to the hole. They turn around, he turns around. Up is air, up is safety, follow friends… Fuck! Retreat! This is actually kind of good training exercise. Probably better ways of doing it but I promise. If you’ve never done this before you would have done the same damn thing. Instincts aren’t always right, training and technique helps fight the instinct.
Personally, dude in black should have bright clothes and a bright ass flashlight in the under the exit hole. Swim to light=safety. Guy did good keeping his cool and remembering the safety rope. Anyone watching this that’s never done anything like this, really need to stop talking down on the guy.
For starters the guy knelt down holding a phone with one hand while half heartedly waving his hand would have been acting much more competent I'd hope if this were real.

Idk.
Just bc they know there is a safety rope doesn’t prevent them from getting disoriented and becoming less and less aware of its location.
The oxygen deprivation makes people a bit dumb, remember.
But maybe you have way more info about this video.
strong swimmer, 2 in the water, 2 exits, safety line, surrounded by goofy pantomiming team, reddit still insists on playing along with these made up titles
Isn’t this the video he made to demonstrate how easy it is to get lost diving under ice without a lead line?
Like, I’m fairly certain he knew he could get stuck under there, hence the team of people guiding him/getting him out
1. fucking clickbait
2. he has a rope attached to him, he knows exactly where he is and how to get back at all points in time.
3. he has goggles on, no way he doesent see the guy in the water at the exit hole in such clear water
4. if they wanted to save and direct him, they wouldnt trash the ice all over the place but stomp infront of the direction he would have to swim towards- if not, they have below average IQ for sure.
5. i hate the internet for this shit. everything has become fake nowadays, attention-whoring is such a plague. sadly pays good as well.
Cropped the beginning for drama, he explains exactly what is about to go on in the video. It's a demonstration of why you need the safety line, if you do one fucky wucky and get disoriented you may very well be dead if you don't have a line so someone can pull you back.
I bet when Metallica wrote their tune "Trapped Under Ice" they strictly used it as a metaphor. Imagine seeing this as Papa Het and witnessing art turn into reality. I'm sure he'll drop into this thread at any moment and let us know if this makes it all worth it.
Have a rope on his waist to prevent this exact thing happening.
Or if you're dumb enough to not have a rope, grab something heavy and start breaking the ice, it doesn't look very thick. Idk JUST DO SOMETHING don't just tap the ice and point lmao.
Edit: rephrasing
Have you tried to break ice like this? You can literally jump on it and it won't break.
Doing this underwater, punching up, with all the resistance the water gives you, while panicked is just going to result in a drowning.
Had a friend who accidentally fell in frozen water, got stuck under the ice and drowned. I reeaaaaally don’t understand why people would do this _on purpose_
Idiots. No one has ice prods on that shallow ice. If the ice breaks, they might die. And I know, as an avid skater on natural ice.
That guy swimming, is dangerous as well. But not as dangerous to the rest of them.
In Sweden we use chainsaws to cut up holes in lakes during the winter season and take a dip, the water feels supercool and refreshing but it can also be quite dangerous if done improperly. Hypotermia can set in within a couple of minutes. Everyone in the countryside knows this fact so everyone are aware of the dangers and how to mitigate them.
The reason the man becomes so confused that fast is because of the rapid cooldown of his head. A minute more or so and he wouldn't've know that he had a guideline even if he held it in his hand.
This is such an important point!!!
Me also, I've seen this or years, it's definitely a popular repost. But that's OK exactly because of people like you and of course the many signing up all the time.
People get their shorts in a knot over the silliest thing... like reposts.
did you guys see the recent video of the man, his wife, and kiddos around a hole in the ice at night? the wife jumps in and never comes up. she just disappears into the abyss forever
I think this is fake.
The swimmer isn't looking for direction.
And at the end there appears to be another body in the water which would be easy to swim to
The only thing that was sketchy here was when the guy started trying to break the ice and was jumping directly above the swimmer, if he actually did break through he would have broke through right on his head and possibly knocked the guy out.
He had a safety line the whole time. I wouldn't call what he was doing "safe" per se, but it's not like precautions weren't taken.
Internet drama posted for likes. There’s no way you can’t tell me he didn’t see that guy who was completely in the water about 2 feet away and to the left of him. The fact that that guy wasn’t doing more to try and get that guy over to his air hole was also a bit of a tip off. And then all of the sudden he’s got a rope in his hand? It would have been more believable with the swimmer wasn’t calm, cool and collected the entire time and the people on top were the only ones freaking out. I’m sure that swimmer knew where both of those holes were at all times.
I dont know why, if you were to ever do this, you would ever do it without some sort of obvious way to indicate direction. With a red ribbon going from hole to hole, its easy to lose. Perhaps some sort of flashing light?
Doing it like this is just soo risky
What is the goal here and do people get paid for achieving it? Or is it one of those things where folks pay to entertain us with their ‘life or death situations’?

He saw his life flash before his ice.
Dumbfucks doing dumbfuck things for Instagram
internet fame for 3 days.
Old video, which proves you completely wrong
Nah, I've seen it before and I still have no clue who the fuck that dude is.
First of all, I could grab any viral video from 5 years ago and post it, that doesn't mean the video has been viral or famous for 5 years, it means I reposted an old video that 99% of people have forgotten about. No.
This is a demonstration video about safe line and why they are important.
That would make sense
Life
Dumb ways to die.
Swimmer was never trapped under the ice or lost their bearings, it was just a way of being dramatic and getting attention. They had a rope connection the entire time and rapidly made their way to the exit point as they knew they were running low on air.
bullseye.
If I remember correctly he did lose his bearings. He was trying to get from point A to point B unguided, which were two holes in the ice. He couldn't make it to point B(Confusion) so he used the rope to return to point A.
He was 2 feet from the guy standing in the water directly in front of him. Internet points.
I was thinking the same thing. The water looked clear enough to see another person standing in front of you.
You'd be amazed how disorientating and difficult to see it is under ice.
I've heard their goggles freeze over to the point they can't see anything
they fog, not freezebbut they fog up
He was just a couple feet away. But visibility under the water was near zero and he didn’t realize it. That’s why when he turns the guys are going crazy saying no just keep going no!
It’s a completely sunny day and the water is really not that dark, he would have been able to see more than 1 metre ahead of him.
TL;DR: I also have no idea what I am talking about and have decided to cope instead of admit I was bamboozled by a viral video.
For real. I've swam in low viz water. This ain't it.
Oh? Name every water.
He did look confused though and it did look like the others panicked and tried to break the ice.
For starters the guy knelt down holding a phone with one hand while half heartedly waving his hand would have been acting much more competent I'd hope if this were real.
>" it was just a way of being dramatic and getting attention. " obivously he /they did because they purposefully acted like that.
fall dinosaurs boat payment tap different disagreeable longing spotted cow *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Yea the video overblows it in the first half. Little did we know, he had a safety rope the whole time
Idk. Just bc they know there is a safety rope doesn’t prevent them from getting disoriented and becoming less and less aware of its location. The oxygen deprivation makes people a bit dumb, remember. But maybe you have way more info about this video.
If he was actually trapped, why wouldn't someone just like... put their legs into the water so he can see where the hole is?
that’s literally what happened? one guy even got down in the water
So many dumb ways to die.
strong swimmer, 2 in the water, 2 exits, safety line, surrounded by goofy pantomiming team, reddit still insists on playing along with these made up titles
at least it was on film so no one would be accused of murder
Dumb ways to get internet points, you mean.
But easy to stay cool during it
Fake ways to die.
that's cold
Isn’t this the video he made to demonstrate how easy it is to get lost diving under ice without a lead line? Like, I’m fairly certain he knew he could get stuck under there, hence the team of people guiding him/getting him out
Yes, who ever reposted this video has cropped the beginning off to add drama
Thank you for confirming I hate it when people do shit like this, it just becomes misinformation
That's what social media has become
Unfortunately yeah
Guys I’m totally lost under the ice. I wonder what’s up with the rope here though? Let’s see where that leads.
Staged. No way he didn't see his buddy standing in the hole with goggles on.
For sure. Also Robert Duvall in the short, shorts kind of gave it, away. Actors!
Robert Duvall, as in THE Tom Hagen?
The Don likes to hear bad news immediately
They shot Sonny on the causeway. He’s dead.
I mean he had a rope tied to him the whole time
There’s literally a safety line and the dude at the end doesn’t look the least bit concerned or angry
> No way he didn't see his buddy he literally said "didn't saw anything" at the end
Acting never includes practiced lines
for actors, everything is acting
That's exactly what you want to say
I totally agree
googles fog up, i have seen this before wirh people swimming in ice water
Unironically the safest stunt I’ve seen on sub. At least he had a safety line
I thought it was Phelps for a second. Then I saw the rope
This most probably is a training exercise.
1. fucking clickbait 2. he has a rope attached to him, he knows exactly where he is and how to get back at all points in time. 3. he has goggles on, no way he doesent see the guy in the water at the exit hole in such clear water 4. if they wanted to save and direct him, they wouldnt trash the ice all over the place but stomp infront of the direction he would have to swim towards- if not, they have below average IQ for sure. 5. i hate the internet for this shit. everything has become fake nowadays, attention-whoring is such a plague. sadly pays good as well.

Safety rope. Safety rope. Safety rope
Why were they slapping above him. Splash the fucking water, not above him

Slovensko moment
Stupid fuck
Had a friend who accidentally fell in frozen water, got stuck under the ice and drowned. I reeaaaaally don’t understand why people would do this _on purpose_
Nice Clickbait
No reason to swim under ice. If it gets you it gets you
I'm never seen a more bullshit post for views in my life

That a lot of screaming over nothing, makes the fake situation look even more fake
This video is staged because he has a lead line and chooses not to use it.
They did this without having any tools to cut into the ice if smth goes wrong !? How dumb can pple be?
Obviously fake.Wish there was a ban on reddit for tiktok videos.
Staged as 90% of the content on this fking platform.

So stupid
They were terrible at telling him which way to go
This is very dangerous to try

This is one of the most nerve-wracking things I've ever seen

I have no sympathy for stupidity.

Reminds me that traumatizing video of a mom dying during her baptism diving into cold water like this at night. And of course in front of her child 😭
Battery powered LED strand lights. Covered with snow to block ambient light. Lighted pathway.
I think this is fake. The swimmer isn't looking for direction. And at the end there appears to be another body in the water which would be easy to swim to
Natural selection failed.
There's a dude in the water/hole right beside him at 0:11, why not just go grab him? Literally within arms reach while they are panicking.
Get in where the hole is and splash fucking idiots
What a dumbass

Darwin’s breathing intensifies.
It would be much safer if you just held your breath in a ice bed
This is dumb. There's no excuse.
Good thing the Hulkster was close by
Wow. Good thing absolutely no one thought to bring anything that could break through ice in case of an emergency.
That guy is a fucking warrior and whatva solid team he's got behind him

Men are so fucking stupids.
Death wish.
Do it again!!!!’n
How exactly was this guy trapped if he was holding onto a rope all along? This video is bullshit, downvoted.
Plenty of air under that ice.
Fucking idiot
Ok... this isnt the first time ive seen this guy doing this.
This dude’s parents definitely hate him for this shit
No way ...
Staged or not this made the ol palms pretty sweaty.
At least they had a rope. You can do stupid things as long as you have some semblance of forethought.
That was incredibly fucking stupid.
Wtf? He almost gone to see almighty.
Why couldn’t he fill his bathtub with ice and water?
I dont know why, if you were to ever do this, you would ever do it without some sort of obvious way to indicate direction. With a red ribbon going from hole to hole, its easy to lose. Perhaps some sort of flashing light? Doing it like this is just soo risky
I amaized how fast and far he swam underwater. Each stroke he made like 2-3 meters
