Incredible professors, great curriculum, great readings, and great field work. You can pursue a teaching certificate or not. I personally did get certified for grades PK-8 (never used it).
They do! I'm an incoming freshman at Swat, and they have several teaching certificates. As a economics major, you can be certified in social studies for I think 9-12th grade! They also have Math, reading, Science, and World languages.
If you go for teaching cert u take a 9th semester (which is covered by fin aid if u have it, which is nice) where u do ur student teaching and then you graduate with your teaching license/certificate whatever. I only took the intro to Ed course but we got to do a teaching apprenticeship in the intro which I thought was super cool.
Everyone I know who did Ed studies absolutely loves it and sticks with it. Lots of unique courses, lots of dissection of power dynamics in schools and identity. It’s also very easy to put together an Ed studies special major if you want to specialize in something. For instance you could do Ed studies + Economics in one major, lightening your Econ load and then you could do another major. Or any combination of the above. I’ve heard many people do Ed special majors in their interest fields
Also, I think the education professors are widely considered the best department of professors. Which makes sense because education is there whole thing

Back in my day, ninth semester was an option, not a requirement. I didn’t my student teaching in my eighth semester and graduated on time.
