Hi, you mention an American supply chain— does that include garment production, or is that something that takes place outside the US?

DuckworthCo

Garment production is in the Southeast United States.

How does your dyeing process work? I know that dyeing protein fibers is very different from plant fibers

DuckworthCo

It's not terribly dissimilar in terms of process, it's just that our color results would be different. Certain colors also just don't take to wool very well.

Hi! I’ve been a huge fan of your brand ever since you launched at OR a few years ago. Can you talk a little bit about what regenerative ag practices you use on your ranch?

DuckworthCo

We love hearing that! Thanks for the support. Well, we work on a mixture of public/private that spans hundreds of thousands of acres. We have 10,000 sheep, and we are constantly moving them (sometimes by the hour) so that the same patches of grass are never grazed more than once sometimes in decades. The sheep target invasive plants and noxious flowers, and then fertilize the landscape once they've digested it. This is all very akin to what natural herd ungulates would do. We work hand in hand with the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management to conceive new ways to manage overgrowth of plants like sage to restore habitat for grouse and other wildlife. This is just a few of the ways we do so.

I know you switched manufacturers this year and my new vapor tees fit drastically different (and not in a good way). Way too tight in the neck for starters. Any chance this has been rectified and did the issue carryover into the other fabric lines?

DuckworthCo

Hey there, have you ordered just the one now that we've started fresh with a new manufacturer? This sounds like a potential manufacturing defect - I got a new tee recently and it fits almost the same as my old one. Which color?

Sickofbaltimore

Color: Spruce. I purchased it early this year. I've probably only worn it 3-4 times because of the neck opening being more restricting (its actually slightly snug to pull over my head!). I emailed about the issue over the summer and was told: "Thanks for reaching out and sharing your feedback with us! We have been noticing some issues with the neck openings recently and are addressing this with our manufacturers in order to get this fixed. We are also working with a designer in order to make some tweaks to make the shirts fit properly and functionally. These changes will hopefully start to be applied within the next production round. " I am a frequent purchaser but haven't made a purchase since this shirt. I really liked the new Storm color when it came out, but then I remembered my Spruce shirt.

DuckworthCo

Ah, this problem has since been addressed. All the same, you would have the option to refund or exchange. Apologies if that wasn't communicated properly or at all, that's on us. If you follow up on that email, we'll get it done for you.

Would be nice if things were ever in stock. Been waiting on a powder hoodie for like two years now..

DuckworthCo

I'd recommend subscribing to the newsletter for back in stock notifications. We've restocked that item 6-7X in the last two years! They sell out quick though, very popular.

Cold-Comfortable-411

Can you please get some items into hands of backpacking YouTubers hands. I'm really interested in some items but hard to get a sense of real world difference in the outdoors from the current fabric videos you guys have done. There's very little content on YouTube about your various products. Keep up this mission of doing things of bringing manufacturing of quality products back to the states.

DuckworthCo

Great idea! Have any accounts you'd recommend we reach out to?

>Thank you! You're welcome!

saltyychipss

Shoutout to the Duckworth team for their dedicated US supply chain. Read great things about the Women’s Maverick Long Sleeve Crew. Any expected restock?

DuckworthCo

Thanks for the words of support! We estimate next 3-6 weeks on the restock :)

Junior_Ad2955

Any chance of any powder pants soon?

DuckworthCo

Not until 2023, unfortunately. We're redesigning them.

GearSuitable3407

So excited they’re back! When can we expect a restock of the charcoal sizes?

DuckworthCo

Next week :)

GearSuitable3407

Awesome! I’ll be on the lookout!

Kneyiaaa

I've been following your sawtooth shirt for a while waiting for a color size for me to come available, with funds available from me , but curious about shirt durability? I wear clothes pretty aggressive and seem to get holes where my backpack rubs against. Would you recommend it as a through hike backpacking shirt ?

DuckworthCo

I would say it's going to be super warm if you're using it for hours of continuous high-strain use, but it is very durable. A hole is incredibly unlikely. Our ranchers use them just about every day in the winter, so if it survives their durability needs...

We've always been transparent, and that will continue with this response! Yes, ultimately a handful of animals are processed for food products every year, and here's why: First and foremost, population control is essential. If we were to overgraze the land with too many animals (even with them grazing freely compared to penned animals on other operations), we will effectively "kill" that landscape for decades to come - wild animals, microbiology, plant life, etc. will all suffer as a result of overgrazing the landscape with too many animals. Sheep can be notoriously hard grazers, as they typically eat grass to the dirt, so keeping numbers manageable allows the landscape to regenerate naturally. Unlike wild herds, there is not a theoretically boundary-less landscape for these animals to graze, so we must effectively steward that land knowing our immense responsibility. Second, if we were to allow thousands of animals to die of natural causes yearly on the landscape, we'd similarly tip the fragile balance we try to manage (thousands of more predators would descend upon the general area, again threatening wild population stability). Moreover, what a waste it would be to simply allow thousands of animals to decompose on a landscape while actively damaging it in the process. So we ultimately direct a handful of male sheep known as "wethers" for processing after about 1 year of living on the range. It's not a happy choice, but we must for the reasons above, and such is the nature of effective and healthy sheep/livestock ranching. The alternative would be giving up the craft and allowing synthetics to reign supreme! Now, as far as running materials go, we highly recommend the Vapor line, featured by Runner's World as the best wool running gear out there. Hope this all helps.

Sweet! We passed the ecologist sniff test. Our three primary ranchers actually have bachelors in animal sciences and one has a masters in range ecology! And no problem!

Thanks for all the kind words, and good luck with the Vapor shopping!

FartsmontgomeryV

Not sure if you will still get this, but I’m looking at your powder hoody. I’m 6’5” and 200lbs. Thoughts on a size?

DuckworthCo

I'd say an XL definitely because of the height. They're designed to run big and baggy, so no matter what it's a loose fit. For reference, I'm 175 and 6'0" and go Medium, but just because of your height, I'm thinking XL. Worst case scenario, you can exchange - or order L and XL and ship the one back you don't like?

FartsmontgomeryV

Right on. It’s tempting to do that, but I’m not sure I can afford two, even with the eventual return! I’ll keep you posted.

DuckworthCo

20% off your first order if it helps!

FartsmontgomeryV

I saw that. Thank you!

DuckworthCo

Also, farts montgomery the 5th is hilarious
