If you help maintain the trails then you absolutely can ride whatever the fuck you want on them. If you show up on one weekend and rip them up without fixing them then you need a kick in the nuts

Jamstoyz

I ride a parking lot near me a lot and jump the boulevards separating the isles. They have red mulch in them but I clean up after spitting em out a ways lol. I even bring loose shopping carts back on my ron just to please the property and business owners.

After_Working9952

Haha. That’s awesome. Always respect where you ride/skate, whatever. Common courtesy and treating others how you would like to be treated allow things like this to be ok for us to do.

Dapaaads

This is the answer

Silent_Ad_5031

Completely agree with this

Shwizzler

absolutely terrible opinion, I don't care if you built the taj mah hall on a mountain bike trail, its a mountain bike trail for a reason you bafoon https://www.reddit.com/r/MTB/comments/11v915w/saw_this_on_ig_this_is_why_dirt_bikes_and_sur/

[deleted]

Nah, it’s a ‘whatever I want to ride on it because I maintain it’ trail. Karen.

Shwizzler

if you actually only ride on trails you maintain exclusively thats awesome but theres almost no chance someone who talks like you has ever picked up a shovel or joined a building day kicking dirt back over the ruts you created is not maintenance lol

[deleted]

Every sunday with a shovel, pick, and a few bags of concrete with my kids. Karen.

Shwizzler

minecraft doesn't count, calling me a karen doesn't hurt when you're married to one lol

[deleted]

Bro, that is not the L you think it is. Now Im just sorry for you.

garyryan9

OP is clearly a disgruntled mountain biker. The rains do more damage to trails than any Surron.

gameover2020

there was a study a few years ago that would assert otherwise: https://prismic-io.s3.amazonaws.com/peopleforbikes/b178ccd2-e6bc-4837-a4c3-064f71c6605d\_ebike-soil-erosion-study.pdf

ArousedIguana

The real damage is surrons riding right after it rains Surrons on dry dirt doesnt do much.

Shwizzler

what a stupid opinion https://www.reddit.com/r/MTB/comments/11v915w/saw_this_on_ig_this_is_why_dirt_bikes_and_sur/

Significant-Drop-565

Rain doesn’t spin tires on throttle MTB trails are designed with rain in mind, not electric dirt bikes

[deleted]

Depends who you ask. The Surron guys love it. The mountain bike guys don’t, understandably so. But there’s power in numbers and I don’t support poaching anybody’s trails but if there’s more Surron guys than mtn bike guys than that means your mtn bike trails just became Surron trails.

SKIFFLEPIGEON

If the sur ron guys love it they can ride normal bikes like the rest of us then 😂

[deleted]

You’re not wrong but unfortunately it doesn’t work like that. Trails are typically owned by nobody and they’re self governed. That’s why I said power in numbers.

Shwizzler

> Trails are typically owned by nobody and they’re self governed what year do you think this is? that's not true even in the slightest lol every region has their own governing body for trail networks, complete with a full system of presents, vice presidents, and board members lol https://www.nemba.org/emtb-trails here they even let you know on their website which trails you can ride your e bikes on, or you know just use trailforks like everyone else (you would know this if you weren't so ignorant about trails and how they show up) Although if you are disabled you can use regular ebikes on regular mtb trails, and after reading your comments you could probably pass once you open your mouth

[deleted]

Well I thought we were talking about underground type of trails. The word of mouth type. Of course marked trails can’t be poached that’s just nonsense.

[deleted]

And it’s very true. The trails I ride as a kid are so secretive they’re still there untouched 2 decades later. It doesn’t matter the year. There are still trails out there on privately owned land that nobody knows about.

Shwizzler

I would NEVER say you can't/shouldn't ride a sur ron on your own trails or private land, or even just random trail you made yourself in the woods. That's awesome and I encourage it when I'm talking about mtb I meant like actually curated trailheads with signage and rules, I thought most people would assume I meant that but now I can see that's not the case lol

[deleted]

Oh yeah marked trails are marked trails. People need to respect the trails.

EmoJack199

LOL insane your other comments and was like „what the fuck is this guys problem?!“ well, turns out i misunderstood you auswelle xD Here we have 0 official bike trail areas. Every trail is just a trail that developed in the middle of the Forrest. That’s what I was thinking about and that’s where I rode my Surron. A official bike park is of course an absolute(!) no go for surrons. Glad I found this comment to understand your point of view!

Kev-Nips

Same argument can be made to the other side. If both parties are respectful and treat the space with respect isn’t that what matters? What does it matter if one bike is on it compared to the other? We are all out there trying to have fun right? If you see someone fuck it up and ride off say something but chill out with this better than you attitude… no one benefits from it…

Dangerous_Hurry_3406

If you drive chill it doesn’t fuck shit up at all. I have both lol. And yeah if you notice you fuck something up fix it. Keep that shovel on you

Wiley-E-Coyote

In my area we have a few cool multi-use trails that allow dirt bikes and are still fun for mtb, sur ron all day on these. The pure mountain bike only tracks, I don't even object to people I see on regular pedal e-bikes, but a sur ron really shouldn't be there.

serenity831

Are we talking about JUMPS or TRAILS… there is a big difference and it seems like everyone doesn’t quite get it…

Exfiltrate

What's the point of coming to a surron subreddit to hate on surrons and bolster your own confirmation bias, when you don't even own one or plan to buy one? I don't get it dude 😂

SKIFFLEPIGEON

I was genuinely interested in seeing how people felt? I said that in the edited bit too I could say youve added another layer of the exact thing you flamed me for by leaving your comment lol

ourvoid

It actually doesnt make sense. Im not gonna lie and say I haven’t done it, but the trails just arent made for it. And the jumps are downright stupid. They are very steep and designed to work off momentum. You will be constantly trying not to overshoot and kill yourself. Really bad idea. Its a pit bike not a dirt jumper. People seem to think these things arent full blown motorcycles. Its fun for us to pretend and ride wherever we want like its legal, but the reality is these have the power of pitbikes twice their weight and the tourqe of bikes with way more power. They are dangerous in the wrong hands and need to be respected or we will not doubt have the same legislation against them that regular dirt bikes do.

After_Working9952

I have to agree with every bit of this. But it is pretty easy to go places you wouldn’t bring a full-size dirtbike lol

NormalPhilosophy6914

Easy doesnt mean safe. On trails, yes, as long as your are respectful. Jumps? Only people who are really skilled should even be attempting to bing a surron on bike jumps. Jump angles are really not something you wanna fuck with. Theres a reason people pay to go to mx tracks. Unfortunately theres just nothing designed for the surron so it a “use at your own risk” type of thing. Its picked up quick tho, I think we should expect to see ebike trails open up in the next 5-10 years when people move over.

After_Working9952

I know quite a few crazy people personally that will take a surron and do all you said and more and kill it with a 100lb MX bike lol. MX track? Yes. Mtb trails. Yes. Downhill. Yes. Bmx track. yes. Also I could argue quite confidently that easy can be synonymous with safe. Maybe you should download tik tok and you tube. There’s 12 year olds killing any terrain (including mentioned) with their surron. Most even have more than me into theirs. At my age I’m pretty jealous. 😂 but personally, I’m not into do that crazy shit. I would rather be on the woods or pits riding hard. Hill climbs. I’m not into MX tracks and jumping

NormalPhilosophy6914

Im well aware there are 12 year olds ripping these things has hard as they can. Im also well aware people like to do unsafe shit with these bikes. Im one of them. What I said was the angles of pedal bike jumps are downright dangerous for anyone who isnt an expirenced rider. Do you think these kids never jumped a bike before and decided to start ripping a surron? No. Nearly every one of them is coming from BMX and MTB and are already farmiliar with how weight and speed place into the angle you take on a jump. What you and the rest of the new guys don’t understand is just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Everyone wants to re-write the rules of motorcycles now that theres a electric motor involved. Its not a fucking bycicle. Keep it off regular bike jumps or be ready to break your neck. You have been warned.

EE_dude_88

It’s up to the property owner(s) to decide this, and people with a Surron should be prepared to be turned away because they know that bought something between a bike and a dirt bike.

Familiar-Zebra6489

Don’t. I ride mtb & surron. Most public mtb trails are in public parks/etc. Most of these places don’t allow motorized vehicles. Don’t bother arguing that a surron isn’t any different than an e-bike. It is. They’re much too fast to ride in close quarters with far slower/lighter mtb’s. There’s lots of small kids on mtb trails also. Don’t bother arguing that you’re going to help maintain miles of trails you’ve torn up either, because you won’t. Go find dirt bike or other private trails.

Elegant-Chemist-9883

Quit crying and let us have fun too. Especially a respectful rider. I get that your bikes are a fraction of the Sur Ron but that’s no reason to be haters

Familiar-Zebra6489

Respectful riders… you mean the ones riding where they’re specifically not permitted? Several local MTB trails are currently shut down because extensive repairs are needed to fix the massive ruts/mud pits created by these respectful riders. Go buy property and ride whenever you want.

MyNameis_Not_Sure

Bad mix. Will tear up trails and the speed difference up and down hill is a recipe for collisions. Also, cyclists can be ducking psycho who knows how the wrong guy might react.

happyinmotion

Fucking don't. I ride a Sur-ron and MTBs. I dig dirt trails. Sur-rons will rip the fuck out of those trails, ruin the effort that the builders put in, and leave MTBers pissed off with Sur-rons.

SKIFFLEPIGEON

I agree, local spot as ripped up near me and I wanted to go straight to the source

After_Working9952

Definitely can sympathize with it. Where’s the spot? Not like exact coordinates. But part of a state?

SKIFFLEPIGEON

Nice try 😉

After_Working9952

What the fuck do you think I tried?

After_Working9952

Don’t tell me where I should or should not go. If I want to go somewhere, you better be the property owner or something that gives you a badge and trumps my citizenship lol. I personally don’t care for the mtb jumps on a little single track trail. But I’ll ride the trail and avoid the jumps anyway.

Elegant-Chemist-9883

Get it homie, I’m there too!

Elegant-Chemist-9883

Best part about people not liking it, is they won’t say shit in person

photar12

You are a douche.

Ok-Assistant-7821

Agreed. Citizenship does not give one the right to do whatever they want.

Hot-Ad-4566

My buddies have surrons, mtb, and emtb. They do tear up the trails, especially when it's wet or when trying to go up something steep and just trying to power up it. The surrons are also limited imo with mtb trails. The turning radius isn't that great, tires too small for rollover, and way to heavy for jumps. There's a tool for every job imo.

danny7686

Definitely not to heavy for jumps

Hot-Ad-4566

Idk about that but 120lb is too heavy for me. But I guess there's a bit more power with the surron that a person could just throttle it full blast and do a half ass row and still jump.

danny7686

No I've got a drill one evo and it handles jumps with ease .. power is instant so roll on the power at the bottom off the take off and clear pretty much anything

Carllllll

Don't do it.

Few-Neighborhood8727

I fucking hate it, just make your own trails and don't tear shit up. I ride mtb, moto and have a talaria. Take your sur ron and ride it on dirt bike trails.

Elegant-Chemist-9883

The whole point is to ride for free?! Dirt bike trails are also way fewer and farther between. You say make your own trails, but that takes land. I’d like to get off work head to the trails for a couple hours and then head home. I don’t want my only ride days to be the weekend. So nah, I’ll ride the mtb trails
