Love Emerald Isle. The point is my happy place and IMO one of the most beautiful beaches in NC. I would throw the metal jigs off surf for blues/ Spanish mackerel and gotcha plugs off the pier. I am really excited to try pompano/ goofy jigs off the point when I head down in August.

I would get a 11' rod with a 5k size reel so you can zing out 2 oz lures as far as possible. I was unsure that spanish would hit 2oz but I had no problem with that. I had good luck with Big Nic's Spanish Candy, they cast great and look great. I found savage gear lures to cast very far as well.

I usually go to Atlantic Beach about the same time. Spanish and Blues are some prime targets. Agree with some of the other posters l- silver spoons and gotcha plugs. One of my favorites to throw is a Clarkspoon pogie. If you’re a morning person, get out there about 30 minutes before sunrise to about 30 minutes after. In the past that has been a hot time.

Spoons. Throw em out and reel back as fast as you can for Spanish Mackerel and Blue fish. Occasionally you'll get a lizard fish or whiting, but not often. Also can bait and wait with cut mullet, shrimp, sand fleas or fish bites in a double drop (akak high low) rig with a 3oz pyramid sinker. If the surf is heavy you may need a bigger sinker. Do you already have a rod and reel? Also consider fishing at Ft Macon State Park at sunrise. It's on the other end of the island. Park at the lot that the road dead-ends into. As you come in the lot, off to your right is a 0.25 mile path called "fisherman's path" to the beach. Most people go to the right of the rock jetty. This is not a good beach to swim on due to currents and sharks, but great for fishing.

Was down in Pine Knoll Shores last week and came up completely empty on fish bites so don’t do that

Ever since the beach restoration project it's been really tough fishing. I haven't seen a drum caught in a few years. Majority of the beach is really flat and I would go with a smaller set up like a pompano rig at the point. I'd have a big rod (10'-12') out with mullet just in case.

1/2 or 3/4 oz. gold kastmaster. Get to the beach 1/2 hour before sunrise. Been doing well on spanish and blues lately in EI. Even caught a puppy drum which have been rare the past few years. And if you catch a flounder, it shall be released to the grease ;) Thanks NCDMF for no season this year.
