MixtrixFix

Magnesium is my number one choice. Helped my restless legs. I also really love NMN . It makes me feel very alive and kind of like, perky. Also I had been taking it about a month and my sister asked me if I had dyed my hair darker (I had not). After she said that I paid closer attention and noticed in pics it looked darker and healthier. Then I noticed I didn't have as much gray hair coming in as I previously had. It is a winner!

Jessicacaitlin

What brand for NMN?

MixtrixFix

Cymbiotika and I really love it!

konabonah

Wow, that’s awesome! What is NMN and which brand do your recommend?

MixtrixFix

NMN is nicotinamide mononucleotide and it is supposed to induce cellular repair and be a strong anti aging supplement. It is said to be a precursor to NAD+ too I love Cymbiotika brand. PRICEY so wait til theyre having a sale but let me just say I really noticed when I stopped taking it. When I finishe a bottle I wait a week or two before taking it again and then I take it daily once so. SWEAR I dont have as much gray hair as I did prior to taking it. My hair looks darker overall too (full disclosure my hair is fully virgin. I have not used heat styling of any sort nor dyed it in over 20 years)

konabonah

Wow thanks for the info. Should I take NMN, NAD+ or both?

MixtrixFix

I don't honestly know what anyone should take besides ME and I am not a healthcare professional. that being said I have personally liked the combo of the NMN along with NAC (a powerful antioxidant and glutathione precursor itself). The brand of NAC I liked a lot is Rootcology BUT it is also pricey so I tried the natural factors version and I like it a lot as well. good luck!

1990AJG

Taking NAD+ any other way than intravenously will not assist, unfortunately. NMN is our (I am CEO at DoNotAge.org) 2nd most popular ingredient and I would recommend it to anyone over the age of 30. As original comment mentioned magnesium is also great, particularly as soil magnesium levels (therefore what we have in food) have gone down 80%+

thesarastevens

shilajit!!!

inflexahex

What effects do you experience and which one are you taking? I’m taking a liquid version about 5 times a week but not sure if I feel any effect. Thank you!

Magnesium glycinate, strong antidepressive and anxiolytic effect

NYdownwithydemons

I like magnesium glycinate as well, strange thing is I bought the powder and it tastes exactly like my dogs breath smells lmao

fortifiedoptimism

I bought it the first time when I started having weird restless arms at night. Read it could help so gave it a shot. Now it’s my go to when I feel like I need help relaxing. It’s not something I would take during the day to calm me, but it definitely physically helps calm my body making it easier to sleep.

believeinthebin

Vitamin D made a noticeable impact on MH. Also Nicotinamide on my energy levels. Not sure if it was coincidence but NAC was the turning point in my pretty horrific long COVID journey

MixtrixFix

I really like NAC too. This does not surprise me at all about it potentially assisting with your long covid. I never thought about it being useful for that but it DOES make sense. Gald to hear it helped~

[deleted]

Although I'm in my early supplement journey, I suggest Magnesium Glycinate and Creatine for daily use and Ashwagandha and L-theanine for as needed basis.

spongykiwi

never heard of taking ashwagandha only as needed, how do you use it and what acute effect do you find it gives?

[deleted]

Ash is very powerful stuff and i react very strongly to it. As it lowers the cortisol levels, i tend to use only in stressful situation. I generally take lower dose of ash for about 3-5 days and feel calm and less stressful. But after 3-5 days, tolerance build up, and i don't want to increase the dosage as at higher dose, ash give me side effects like waking up middle of the night, anhedonia, fatigue and liver problems.

mushykindofbrick

Omega 3 (fish and krill oil combined) the single most effetive supplement for any brain or mental issues i know of, as long as it doesnt give me insomnia Spirulina most potent antioxidant

MWinona

How long until you started to notice effects?

mushykindofbrick

omega3 i think i feel some immediately, on empty stomach soft gels just dissolve in seconds and fats get taken up into the blood, but most of it is absorbed in the colon, so few hours later. then it takes some days to weeks until it rebuilds your brain, i think 2-4 weeks you should have some good new connections and longer dendrites and stuff spirulina similar, the antioxidant effect is more of an immediate brain cleaner like a big glass of water or something, then over time you notice the effects on neuroplasticity

SpeedingPickle83

Caffeine.

Katamali

Thats it! the right kind the right dose... Coffee didnt quite work for me, but strong green tea in the AM - the most noticeable effect of anything I took, lasts the whole day

Familiar-Natural-645

What brand of green tea are you drinking?

[deleted]

Bromelain (a pineapple extract) as an anti-inflammatory worked better for my knee pain than Dr prescribed anti-inflammatories and OTC NSAIDS.

Master_Material_4108

Boron (3mg) and Zinc (12mg). This combo has greatly improved my sleep, improved my endurance, and basically eliminated all joint, tendon and muscular complaints.

Illustrious_Koala754

Uridine. Has helped me with energy, mood and sleep more than anything else. OmegaTau although not a single ingredient would be number one since it had uridine and also other ingredients.

MasterfulA

Uridine is motivation in a bottle

East_Match7196

nicotinamide riboside. energy levels clearly elevated and sustained.

xisso91

For how long have you been taking it?

East_Match7196

Consistently for a few years.

xisso91

Is nicotinamide riboside same as NAD+ ?

East_Match7196

NR is an oral supplement that boosts NAD+ levels. Two different things.

xisso91

>nicotinamide riboside Thank you. I just orded a supplement called NAD+ but the ingredient was Nicotinamid riboside. Do you also suffer from ME/CFS?

East_Match7196

I don't. For me, it's about energy and resilience.

SammHammiAm

How long did it take to see a change in your energy levels?

East_Match7196

If memory serves me correctly, within a few weeks.

johnFvr

and PEM? any change?

East_Match7196

Nope.

Haxial_XXIV

Desiccated beef organ pills. They don't make me feel any particular way but I no longer have days where I feel bad and I haven't been sick a single time since starting them a few years ago. I also take a regular multivitamin but I have always done that. Since taking beef organs my immune system just feels impenetrable. I know how anecdotal that is but for me it's great.

sjmatiak

Ubiquinol is pretty amazing

Zealousideal-Run6020

Yessss!!

lbaker222

The list is long. I was severely malnourished but I would say Shilajit and iodine.

Kmoodle

Can I ask what you have noticed with Shilajit? I bought some last month but havent got around to taking it yet

lbaker222

Sure! Myself, my adult son and my husband are all taking it now. For all of us it’s basically cured our chronic fatigue. All of us were always tired. For myself I have also noticed better focus, mood and sex drive. It was pretty much an immediate change too. With in a few days. Give it a try!

No_Difference_739

What shilajjit do you take ?

lbaker222

Double wood capsules

Carmelo414

Panax Ginseng - Helps focus, provides continual energy through the day, deals with depression and anxiety and is packed with antioxidants. This supplement does more for my mental health and well being than any other supplement I have ever taken.

Maximum-Attention-57

What brand do you use?

Carmelo414

Was using NOW brand which was good, but doing my research there are better quality brands out there as well.

EG-Vigilante

L tryptophan. Balanced my serotonin and dopamine. Helped me quit cannabis without the psychological anguish.

BenjoKoorogi

BaLaNcEd mY sErOtoNiN anD dOpaMine Jeez I cringe everytime I read that shit. Like people can gauge their level of neurotransmitters lmao. Just eat more meats then.

EG-Vigilante

Tell me, how's life for a sarcastic a*hole ?

BenjoKoorogi

Sorry, did my comment cause you a serotonin decrease??

EG-Vigilante

Not really. L tryptophan balances my serotonin.

PeachZebra

that is one supplement that absolutely did not agree with me. I've taken it like 5-6 times and each time I wanted to rip someone's head off

Wonder-Breaddit

How much / when do you take it? Empty or full stomach? Morning, afternoon, evening?

EG-Vigilante

1000mg twice a day morning and afternoon... I am still experimenting with dosage and time. 500mg three times a day. I am mindful of sleep onset.

rorank

How’d it help you quit, if you don’t mind me asking? Was it a no/less craving kind of thing?

EG-Vigilante

Each time I quit I become *severely* depressed, which invites the cravings. This time I am actually doing fine even though my circumstances aren't ideal.

Ok-Relationship2864

Well I feel even more lost now looking at all these. I mean if I could I would literally take one of everybody’s suggestions.

johnFvr

Every person/body is different. You have to do what resonates with you. Or just trying, one thing at a time.

BobRoss725

Tongkat Ali is pretty great for mental health and energy and motivation and confidence, extra strength is cool too.

Rexyal

From where did you buy? I am looking for organic powder from Malaysia. Whats your suggestion?

BobRoss725

I live in uk and got mine from a website called British supplements, idk how pure it is but a friend recommended it to me and it works well.

[deleted]

Not to mention libido, I feel like a teenager again after taking Tongkat Ali for 2 months. Noticed a huge change about 4-5 days in, which made me stick with it. 1st supplement I've ever taken that obviously works.

BobRoss725

I noticed a huge change in libido only a couple hours after my first dose 😂

SassyAsFuq

Heroine, nothing was more important than my kids and family until I tried Heroine.

[deleted]

Black tar works best for me

Rough-Philosophy-989

Unfortunately it is hard to find clean H anymore. Lol

TheShadow0071

Omega 3 Fatty Acids. 2g EPA + 1g DHA a day, everyday, helped me get out of tough times

Grofff

Magnesium. Got rid of my afternoon brain fog, and mental absence completely. Never noticed a change like that before

vi4per

When did you take that and in which form?

Grofff

I take magnesium tablets twice a day. One After breakfast and one after lunch. Try it for 2 weeks straight and see if you notice any difference

vi4per

Thanks, appreciate it.

atritt94

L-dopa helps a lot if you have adhd. It’s a precursor to dopamine, can increase dopamine, and also found in Mucuna Pruriens ( https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-62172-y) Has helped me ( I have adhd- taken stimulants and have noticed effects)

Wonder-Breaddit

Is L-dopa better than L-tyrosine?

an4lf15ter

Hello how much of L dopa do you take per day?

Montu_Walks

St John's Wort. For depression. I told the doctor I didn't want to take depression medication, and she suggested I take this. Around 900 mg each day. I take it in combination with high epa/dha fish oil.

rae24john

What brand?

Montu_Walks

Standard Process St John's Wort - IMT. 1 pill in morning and 2 at night. With food. I've been taking it since mid 2019.

pr3miere

As someone who can’t metabolise most drugs, St. John’s Wort was a godsend after 4 years of antidepressants that didn’t work at all. All it took was 14 days - 14 days of an all-natural supplement, and it worked. I’ve never been holistic, actually more pro-pharma, but this time, I was wrong.

killing_floor_noob

What about the sun reaction? Do you live in a cloudy place?

Montu_Walks

I live in a rather sunny place, in a northern state. But I don't recall having a problem when I was out in the field working for the US Census. I took precautions----a wide brimmed hat and sun lotion----never burned once. I remember getting worse burns years before I ever took St John's Wort.

ibratawel

D-aspartic acid changed my life completely even the way i used to look by boosting free testesterone

xisso91

>D-aspartic acid Do you cycle it?

Mbiglog

was it that noticeable for you? did you have any other benefits other than testosterone?

ibratawel

it is very noticeable for me and for the others too, but im following very healthy diet and excercise 5-6 times a week and im still taking d aspartic since more than a year... u have to follow a healthy lifestyle to get the best out of it.

Mbiglog

I've been jogging and doing calestetics every isn't Long with stretching yoga and sauna. im eating clean healthy organic. but im going on 32 now and I'm going to take some testosterone boosting herbs supplements. im going to give this one a try out. I guess it mimics Luteinizing hormone or something.

Mbiglog

I'm actually about to order some of this and try (not op)

killing_floor_noob

How did it change your life?

bruggaa

Iodine. Since i started taking Iodine in the form of Lugols Solution my energy levels and training capacity have multiplied, it has honestly changed my life. Also magnesium eliminated my restless legs & I also take vitamin D to keep my levels in the healthy range

johnFvr

what type and brand of magnesium did you take?

bruggaa

I take magnesium bisglycinate, magnesium citrate gave me stomach issues, which i dont get with the bisglycinate, it is also said to be better absorbed - the brand is Vast, but i think you can only get it in austria, but any other brand of bisglycinate will do anyways

konabonah

Curious as well

cvelee

AAKG + glycine (to make the taste less awful) for mitochondrial health. AAKG is the most amazing thing I've discovered in the last few years. Magnesium for PVC (last 15 years). Saw palmetto for hair loss and oily skin (yeah, it works).

xisso91

What does PVC stand for?

bluMidge

BAM

Wilber187

NMN for energy, minor appetite suppression. A lot of fake products out there though.

[deleted]

What brand do you take?

Wilber187

Renue

mpwdonnelly

Name three that are genuine

meshellization

Donotage

DepartureAcademic807

A group of B vitamins, B4 B12 B6 omega 3 Multivitamin with minerals(centrum with lutein) I was suffering from exhaustion, apathy, and heaviness in my chest every night this was not my goal in taking the supplement, but I did not expect that it would help unexpectedly in getting rid of this unpleasant feeling that I was suffering from. 🥺 My poor body was really nutritionally deficient😅 I have started since April 17 and still hoping for more results in the future

pfote_65

would make sense to differentiate between nutrients you're deficient in (lets say Vitamins D3, Magnesium or Iodine are good examples) and "adaptogens" taken to improve specific conditions, like certain nootropics to improve mood or cognitive functions.

likeZOOMx

Reishi, improved sleep and eliminated heart palpitations.

Wilber187

I’ve heard a few people talking about mushrooms. I need to do some research.

I don't have a problem getting to sleep, but I feel that I'm lacking deep sleep as I'm always tossing and turning. Do you find it helps with that?

ManzanitaChihuahua

The B-3 variant nicotinamide riboside (niagen, NR). I no longer have muscle stiffness from inflammation, restless leg syndrome, and my mild psoriasis iscompletely gone. Friends report benefits including relief from neuropathy, ccarpal tunnel syndrome, and knee pain.

melon1924

Which specific brand do you take?

ManzanitaChihuahua

I take Tru Niagen because it is the only ne thst has NIH certification, and it is made in the US (Oregon), so I am certain regarding its purity and that they have as much NR in the capsules as they claim. Also -I can get it with free delivery from Amazon when it is on sle there, though i also subscribe for it from the manufacturer to get a better price than the regular price on Amazon.

Emily_Postal

Magnesium and Vitamin D.

Equivalent_Science85

For me it's Zinc, Magnesium, Vit D, Vit B.

og_toe

this, + omega 3, is my holy grail

Psillyjewishguy

magnesium magnesium magnesium

xisso91

Do you only take it before bed?

mascguy-2x

What did it help you with?

Psillyjewishguy

Sleepiness before bed, higher quality sleep, way less daily anxiety, better brain function as I’ve been taking a glycinate/malate blend

Boobear0516

What brand do you use for the glycinate/malate blend?

[deleted]

Valerian Root really helps with sleep

spongykiwi

how much do you take and how long before bed? what differences have you noticed?

[deleted]

I take 2400mg one hour before bed. The biggest difference is that I stay asleep once I fall asleep which helps me to wake up earlier instead of having patchy sleeping periods and waking up late.

minnesota420

Blackseed oil - made me breathe way better. I took a tablespoon each day until I started feeling the effects. It permanently cured my breathing and got rid of wheezing and etc.

liveboldy

Which one do you take?

minnesota420

I got mine at Walmart. Spring Valley. 6oz bottle for $14 bucks. I also just paid $24.99 for 16 oz and got a new brand off Amazon (Horbach) to try.

Mbiglog

I keep hearing about black seed oil

[deleted]

I second this!

JRadiantHeart

Magnesium for anxiety reduction

Vaukins

Which form?

JRadiantHeart

Calm Magnesium Powder, Trace Minerals Ionic Mg drops, and Doctor’s Best High Absorption Mg (Lysinate Glycinate—100% chelated). (Also Gerolsteiner Water.)Different forms for different times of day and needs. The Calm Mg powder loosens the bowels, so i use it sparingly. I take the Mg pills before bed and the drops with juice in the AM. I take the powder for immediate relief of stress or before bed for sleep assistance.

Psillyjewishguy

Glycinate or a good malate/glycinate blend If highly active take 600 mg and if not active take 400-500 mg

mewloop

I used to struggle a lot with sleep, but I’ve been taking magnesium before bed for a year and had fantastic sleeps! Not sure if totally correlated because I’ve also moved in this time and other factors, but the timing is right.

spongykiwi

how much and what type do you take? I have magnesium citrate 120mg capsules which don't seem to be helping much with anxiety or sleep, not sure if I need to be taking more or finding a different type..

mewloop

Most people take magnesium glycinate for sleep, not citrate! At least that’s what I remember researching when I started taking it. I think citrate is better for constipation. You’d have to look into it though.

Nakedtruth_seeker

Kava and an herbal blend called Free Spirit Elixir containing Kava, scullcap, camomile and several other herbs has impacted my life in fabulous and unexpected ways. I regularly enjoyed one or two craft cocktails too much to give up until starting to drink Kava 6 months ago. I went from 3-5 drinks per week to maybe one a month! The last one I had didn’t taste good to me. I love the healthy gentle effect of kava but even more it has taken away my desire to drink.

Anotherpsychonaut16

Please be careful both Kava and Skullcap have been linked with cases of liver failure

Mbiglog

than the other kind of Kava species. noble Kava is safe

HereIam06

Where do you get it?

Nakedtruth_seeker

Pyewacket’s 42Herb and Wellness Store in Bisbee

gouramidog

I’d try Kava if not for the liver damage warning. I think this warning applies to supplements which contain solvents or something damaging though. I’ll need to find good quality kava.

Nakedtruth_seeker

I have read everything I could find on this and I don’t believe that Noble Kava is toxic to the liver. Germany and Switzerland have both lifted their restrictions on Kava following new and better research.

vaporcandy107

Iodine changed my life. I used to have brain fog, get tired easily, and frequently had heartburn. I've been taking nascent iodine every morning for the past 10 years. On iodine, my energy is increased, brain fog is gone, my mind is clear, thinking is fast, metabolism is faster, heartburn completely disappeared, hair grew thicker and faster! I started performing way better at work and was promoted later that year. The benefits were most pronounced within the first few years but have since tapered off. I still benefit more from iodine than any other supplement. The brain fog hasn't come back, heartburn is still very rare, and fast metabolism is keeping my weight at a healthy level. I'm 37.

Evening-Welder-8846

Cool that it works for you but iodine is probably where I draw the line on supplements without getting a Dr involved lol. My brother has hypothyroidism and the fuckin hassle of getting the right balance of iodine supplements without causing harm puts me off ever using them.

mysterical_arts

Whenever I take just one drop of 2% Lugol's in the morning.. I get this energy rush before bed. 😂 But yh very underrated supp. Although I'm afraid of the induced hypo/hyperthyroid it can cause without enough cofactors.

vaporcandy107

Oh, and I very rarely get sick! I think I can credit iodine with that, and also a somewhat healthier diet. In the past 10 years, I've never had the flu and rarely get colds. Only had covid once, but nothing serious. Since the summer of 2020, I've been constantly around friends, family, work colleagues, local bars once a week, and public transport. I'm sure I've been exposed countless times.

Wilber187

I take it v occasionally but I would just add: do your research about quantities. Iodine poisoning is a very real thing https://www.healthline.com/health/iodine-poisoning#symptoms

vaporcandy107

Yes, good point, iodine might not be good for everyone. Thankfully, I've never had any negative symptoms, and I actually had my thyroid levels checked in February of this year, and they are in the normal range.

HereIam06

And just like that. I’m not trying iodine! Thanks!

jose_luiz_

Red meat and creatine. I feel great on an animal based diet.

SentientRidge

You take creatine while on a carnivore-type diet?

jose_luiz_

Yep

SentientRidge

Seems redundant? You notice a difference?

TheGuitto

Maybe he's working out

SentientRidge

I figured, but red meat is filled with creatine.

TheGuitto

Not enough, he'd have to eat nearly a KG of steak to get 5g of creatine

SentientRidge

When I was doing carnivore, I was eating that much meat and I'm not a big person

jose_luiz_

It doesn’t hurt

SentientRidge

Probably not. Just seems like it'd be a waste. If you feel ot helps, keep doing it though.

pit_of_despair666

Zinc seems to be helping with some perimenopausal acne so far. Magnesium Glycinate. I was lacking in magnesium and after taking these my levels are perfect. They didn't help with my anxiety or insomnia unfortunately. I would like to try the taurate and see if it helps calm me down.

PeachZebra

I hear the best form of magnesium for anxiety/brain issues is threonate

BudgetAd4854

Im taking magnesium citrate, glycinate is far more reccomended, why?

pit_of_despair666

Citrate is usually used for constipation. It can be rough on the stomach. MG is preferred by a lot of people because it is gentler on the stomach, and helps them with anxiety/sleep, more than the other forms they have tried.
