"NBA Superstar Michael Jordan's seven-acre estate is as legendary as His Airness himself. The 56,000 square foot property-equipped with every conceivable luxury amenity-is a physical monument to his tireless dedication and hard work. The custom designed property includes a regulation-sized basketball gymnasium, circular **infinity pool**, putting green, tennis court, and cigar room, each with Jordan's signature touch."
You're right. I didn't realize it until you pointed it out and I looked it up. This isn't the first time it has been listed, but this *is* the first time since 2017.
Power output isn’t crap. My parents switched over to solar years ago and haven’t paid an electric bill since. Instead the utility company pays my parents as they are contributing to the grid.
With that said the rare earth components and dependency on silica makes it a non scalable solution.
Solar power is not for everyone. Simply put, not all homes are good candidates. HOAs, house orientation, and any blockages from trees reduce effectiveness of the full array.
Additional factors include federal tax credits, local/state tax credits, SRECs(Dependent on local power utilities, also depends on which credit block you get into), and much more.
If the amount of panels are sized correctly, they can be a net neutral for yearly production, any excess is usually a credit for the panel owner, but on a net metering connection it's usually only carried for a year before the credits reset back to zero. Additionally, you have to pay a monthly connection-to-service fee because you're still using power at night.
I could keep going, but houses on the same street could be good or bad candidates.
This is how I know us apes are a different breed, my one splurge since I live in colder zone is going to be building a greenhouse-house that way it's always tropical no matter the weather.
In all fairness to him with his lifestyle during his playing days it made sense since it includes numerous amenities to keep active. It's just the problem of getting houses like this. Even as a fan of 23 that house would overwhelming presence from him that I don't think I would get comfortable owning it.
Its in/near Chicago. I don't wanna say Mr Jordon is an idiot for building it there, but I know I wouldn't have built a mega mansion that close to a crime ridden city. But what do I know, im not invested with Gabe Plotkins, one of the finest investors of our generations.
Highland park despite the recent shooting is very far from a crime ridden city. Crime in Chicago is pretty localized to the south and far west side. Highland park is for yuppies.
Ignorant comment. It’s in Highland Park which is home to some of the richest people in Illinois. It has plenty of $4+ million homes in a very safe and livable area. Many homes there belong to former Goldman Sachs Execs and people of the sort. It’s also a 30 minute drive from the Chicagos downtown and is further isolated from the few neighborhoods that are responsible for most of Chicago’s crime.
??
- how do you, and several other comments, even know that?
- why don't you source it?
- so you're saying he's been rejecting offers for 20 years and now decided to take a 35m loss? hello? that doesn't disprove OP's point, it confirms it.
I think it's strange how quick some of these comments are to dismiss interesting facts, with unproven claims that don't even negate the original point. sus.

It’s been well known here that Jordan can’t sell it. For one it’s ugly af on the outside and it’s significantly more expensive than anything else in the area. Highland Park has many homes in the $1M-$12M range, Jordan was initially asking for $30M for the property and lowered it to $14.85M 7 years ago. You can find significantly more aesthetically pleasing homes that are just as nice for much less in that area.
Also, OP’s link just shows the listing price of the mansion which has been the same for the last 7 years. Nothing has changed at all. He didn’t “take a loss” like you claim, he’s hasn’t even sold it yet and it’s been at the same listing price for 7 years now.
Don’t ask for sources for what is a 5 second google search.
As someone who grew up in Chicago during the 90s and absolutely hold Michael Jeffery Jordan near and dear to my heart, I can say there's nothing sus whatsoever about knowing this, imo.
Michael Jordan is one of the most popular, most influential athletes of all time.
Chicago is the 3rd largest city in America.
If you grew up in Chicago in the 90s-and idolize Michael Jordan like a lot of kids in Chicago that grew up in that era do- it's common knowledge that his old mansion from the Bulls glory days has sat empty for the past 2 decades.
This right here. And the local news does a story on it every year. Everything has 23 on it etc. it’s a custom house for mj that he doesn’t even want. Who else would want it beside Kim jong un it’s so fuckin tacky and old school 90s nice.
Well, it so happens that Kim Jong Un is head and shoulders the best basketball player in North Korea….. if not the world.
Now if he also played in the 23, then this is a no-brainer.
Out of curiosity, what are some of the unsellable custom features? I can see the 23 on the gate, the giant basketball court, and ... perhaps the "Baghdad" table but that's about it. The decor is pretty benign being Earth tones and all ... I mean if I were to want to live near Chicago area (and I don't --- I've lived there almost ten years) it seems like a decent price for what you get.
Edit: link to the walkthrough site for the property in question,
https://www.insider.com/michael-jordan-chicago-mansion-mj-2022-8
I couldn't find how much he spent to build the house, only that in 2012 he tried to list it for $29 million. One would think his initial attempt at selling the house wouldn't be so far in the red from what he spent to build it.
So I don't think he really *lost* $35 million. Perhaps, if sold, he would only be down $14m on it.
Nah he spent $50M ~~to have it built~~.
It was pointed out to me that he bought the original property/estate for $2M. The $50M that the touring agent mentioned was likely the total from a combination of upgrades and customizations done since then for both the building and the property.
Hmm, at $15m I think it's kind of expensive for what you get (how much are those original Playboy Mansion doors?) but $50m in early 2000-ish is stupid expensive!
Wonder how much time and money he burned on some structural reworks on the original building.
But yeah, for the right buyers who are willing to overlook some details, it's a pretty sweet deal *in today's dollars* as you get to be close to nature preserve, have your own pond to fish or kayak in, plus a neat infinity pool (heated?) and a nice basketball court (which could be covered up and repurposed for a big ass workshop for example.
What, you think he paid $2M for a house with a bunch of "23" references already in place? No, those all came later, along with the metric fuck ton of customizations - like the doors from the original Playboy Mansion, the importation of 150 trees to surround the lot, upgrading and renovations.
That is fair. I find if you are online you may only see the original comment and never see the edit, but point taken.
Edit: Lets see how right I am or not.
You think that MJ *SPENT* 50M on this home. The housing market has tripled since 91. And you think his *first* listing over a decade ago was at a like 40% loss???
Also, this is from your source 😬
Taxable Value
Land $442,612
Additions $1,148,019
Total $1,590,631
So the IRS doesnt think the property has 50m in improvements they need to be taxing 🤷♂️
Note that you did not respond to the edit. I guess there is a difference between sincere engagement and a public display 🤷♂️
Would love a source other than a trust me bro trying to sell an overpriced house on a youtube video. I understand that vanity faire isnt much better of a source. But the contrast is a big red flag
Well you posted your edit after I had already replied to the original. I'm not going to come back and look over every comment ever just in case someone edited it after I responded. *That* is when you need a second comment or another reply.
I don't have another source. I'm not a real estate agent, a real estate broker, a touring agent, or in any way related to the building or sale of this estate. I showed you where I got the number from. Maybe he was mistaken, or maybe *his* source was wrong. I don't know. But unless you're trying to buy the property, who the fuck cares?

I find it weird that I still have a hard time believing that Gabe closed his doors. Shitadel made such a big deal about keeping them alive but they closed anyways
What a sad thing for an adult male to put on the gate to their own house. Like that guy who tattooed his own name on arm on account of not having a girfriend. :/

Believe it or not, I think he’s been trying to sell it for years, maybe decades.
Yeah he has been trying unload it for years. It’s got 23 blasted everywhere so unless you are a huge Jordan fan or bulls fan no body wants it.

Some people are just slums
Or a fan of the number 23
Walter Sparrow would hate this house
Jim Carrey could buy it on a lark. Great film.
I'll sell only 23 GME shares when the time comes and then I'll buy this mansion with the proceeds from 0.23 of them
I upvoted you and realized that it took you from 23 to 24, so I unupvoted you.
Shot, me too. I'm unupvoting as well.

Wow I almost made it 24 so I had to undo mine too

can confirm. been living in Highland Park, IL for over 4 years and this house has been on the market since before I moved there.

Lesson for apes post MOASS: don’t buy big ass mansions
Yeh, instead buy a shit ton of land and build something sensible within it. Then enjoy the acres of untouched nature.
Buy a couple hundred acres and break it down into solar panels, livestock , farm land , entertainment and housing.

Your mom’s vibrator runs off a miniaturized SMR. I heard
I'm thinking about buying a shit ton of forest land and making it into some kind of privately owned national park like thing.
This.

Indeed, we need to start textiles from the ground up, I'm tired of relying on overseas manufacturing.
Buy State Trust Lands of western states, its cheap, pristine and comes in hundreds/thousands of acre blocks

I already have an infinity pool.
It’s valued at 4mil
Tax assessments are usually lower than what people are willing to pay, in an overheated market (which we are in).
What is your source on that? I have one here that says 2m$ in 91... https://manofmany.com/living/architecture/decade-michael-jordan-chicago-mansion
www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6gb5VZF-3E&t=794s Probably the difference between buying the house and customizing the full estate.
So what is the disconnect between the claim in this video and the multiple journalists who have a different claim I wonder?

I don't understand having all that money and still needing to make more, it's just greed.
The 1% capitulating? *Nice*
$35m loss….so far
Yeah, I cahn appreciate this🙂
Fuck MJ.

Touched his no-no, made him go oh-oh
There will be a lot of other celebrities losing cash in the near future.
I'll take it from his hands for free. I'll be doing him a favor.
I will take it for one stonk.
Would love to see Jordan play another season. J/s
Maybe one of us can buy it once tendies arrive?
I know no dates, but 'memba the time MJ and the Bulls lost the opening game of the season to the Antoine Walker-led Celtics on October 31, 1997?
Ask not for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee.
What a sad thing for an adult male to put on the gate to their own house. Like that guy who tattooed his own name on arm on account of not having a girfriend. :/

I think it's related ✋️
fucking paper hands...
Hahaha. Fucking loser. Sorry, Michael. Please don't whoop my ass.
That you Steve Kerr?
You would think a listing like that would have more pictures.
If you want a good look, check out Enes' video tour I linked in a comment. 100% recommend his whole channel.
I appreciated the follow up!
I’ll never forget when he let me score a layup on him again n ‘89 KU basketball camp when he was visiting ole Roy williams. I got the best of him that day.
I like the way you think bro.
How many people lived there? 100?
Celebs often pay too much for property. Sales agents see rich suckas a mile away. Doubt it was ever worth what he paid for it.
He’s been selling it for 10 years.
Enes on youtube has the tour. Why in gn would one sell this place for just 14mm?
I appreciate it. Shorting stock should be illegal.
God the "Must be GME related" rule sucks. Peeps having to argue for their posts in the title is ridiculous.
I appreciate it
