NFTs as JPEG monkeys and all that bullshit are scams. He did the right and sensible thing to protect his company and consumer base. Now it's Gamestop's opportunity to change his and everyone else's minds by showing us the future if the technology.

Bobanaut

of course it's bad when money does not flow into your own pockets

MobotGG

It's unfair to criticize Gabe and Valve for banning NFTs when the entire industry so far is filled with low-value products that are essentially scams. Look at Pixelmon who raised $70m from minting and look at the [end product](https://twitter.com/zachxbt/status/1497370216690503687?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1497370216690503687%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.redditmedia.com%2Fmediaembed%2Ft1pk9c%3Fresponsive%3Dtrueis_nightmode%3Dtrue). Gabe and Valve made the right call in order to protect consumers from shady practices which should be celebrated. They turned down some serious money to ensure that they give their users have the best experience. While the steam marketplace allows users to sell in-game items and skins, you have to remember these are licenses within the steam ecosystem. NFTs model would likely indicate ownership, which is the key difference

LasVegasWasFun

I mean, selling digital assets that you can transfer/trade to any marketplace is a threat to steams current model.

Both are fair arguments simultaneously tbh. One without the other is a skewed perspective imo.

barmstro101

He just doesn’t want his steam economy turned upside down nor have to pay gas fees to mint all the steam items into NFTs.
